Yes! Everyone return your GPUs! Then I can get a refurbished 3080 for only $600! MUAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!

10gb has been shown to be enough for games for the foreseeable future many times. as for the 20gb versions, i still dont understand why theyre going to exist because A) 10gb is enough for games and B) a 20gb card will cut into 3090 sales very hard. even then, its unlikely these cards will be priced the same as the 10gb on launch, unless amd forces them to cut costs in which case it doesnt matter whether that there were 20gb versions coming out anyways, the 3080 will lose value either way in that situation. seems like people want the 3080 to solve world hunger or something, its a good card at a normal price point with some first batch issues which have plagued basically every gpu launch.

SPCFHT reacted to HumdrumPenguin in Return your RTX 3080 while you can
Aside from the FE and Asus models, all other RTX 3080 cards seem to be consistently crashing at 2000Mhz+ core clock speed. Actually, people here in the forum are already complained about crashes on the FE model. To add salt to the injury, a leak from the GALAX roadmap shows that a 3080 with 20gb VRAM is coming, and likely very soon (as well as a RTX 3060).

Now... ask yourself, once these cards are out, how much do you think your 10gb model will be worth? Not to mention that it will be bottlenecking your card's raw power rather sooner than later. The new consoles are raising the graphical bar, so don't go expecting to be safe with 8-10gb VRAM, because you won't be. It's the 1060 3gb and 6gb dilemma all over again. Thinking that you may need the extra VRAM more in 2 ore 3 years only, once 4000 series are released, is just wrong, because you shouldn't buy a product and expect it to be good for just a couple years.

Also, for all of you who say that the card is good enough, I tell you this: you don't buy a high end product to settle for good enough. And hey, the RTX 3080 is not even that.

It's impossible to say. Every manufacturer has their hits and misses. When it came to the 5600XT lineup, Gigabyte literally had both one of the best and one of the worst SKUs... for the same GPU. You'll just have to wait for reviews.

Buy a used RTX 2070S / GTX 1080 Ti / RX 5700XT in the coming months, prices should fall hard. And they will perfectly suite your needs.

do note that the RTX 3060 wont likely be released until next year. seeing a 3060 released with the 3080 is unlikely, just like every other low end card released before it.

Well just an opinion is meaningless considering you, me and all of the other consumers don't know what Ampere and RDNA2 will offer.
Either way, claiming that AMD will suddenly be competing in the top-end with Nvidia, taking into account the past 6 or so years in the GPU industry, is a pretty bold prediction. I wouldn't bank on it personally.

Wait for zen 3 and check what it has to offer, in gaming, the 6700k especially with an overclock performs similarly to a 3700x.

Do we really expect the customer to see this price difference? I wouldn't be surprised if all the middle-men (suppliers, stores, etc.) to gobble up some of that savings.
But I wouldn't mind getting some more RAM and maybe another SSD.

Although I really am looking for a price reduction in large (non-SMR preferably) HDD's.

Just go for it. It is probably hard to get the brand new 3080/70 series in the future when they just released it, especially under covid situation. Your discounted 2080 super is a value choice.

SPCFHT reacted to xg32 in Looking to upgrade to Zen3, is there a mobo that will support Zen4?
zen 4 will likely be ddr5 anyway, and if the past is any indication, it's not worth it at all to build during the first gen of a ram switch lol...so zen 3 will be perfect timing imho.

I agree with you 100%. I had to switch to AM4 because of a failing and really old 775 motherboard. For now I am using a 3100 until ZEN 3 comes around. But I guess a 16 core ZEN 3 will last for at least 5 years or more, paired with a RTX3000 card and a decent amount of memory.

First off, 3000 series is expected to be announced next month so I would wait.

That said I’ll explain it as best as I can.
The biggest difference between all the graphics cards is the coolers they use. There is a post on this forum called the gpu tier list which ranks the coolers.
Most use the same pcb (which is what the actual gpu is, the graphics card is the entire thing) while some (like some oc and ko models) use a pcb that has a higher quality silicon. This allows them to get higher frequencies/be faster and also be a bit cooler.
The Founders edition is the card the Nvidia themselves makes. It uses the standard pcb and their cooler. For the other cards, you will see slight differences in speeds.
My advice is to pick one with a good cooler and good reviews.

The 9100 will struggle in CPU intensive titles, so get a Ryzen 3300X or even a 3100 instead, paired with a decent B450 board.
For streaming, use the encoder on your GPU (NVENC).

If you don't know why you might want X570, then B550 is probably the way to go for you.

Basically X570 has more PCIe 4.0 lanes, so you can have more very fast storage, which most people do not need.

Zen 3 will still use AM4, and will be supported with any B550 or X570 board (after a BIOS update).

B450 boards will likely support it as well. However, that will require a one-way beta BIOS update, which will remove support for older CPUs from the chipset. While you can get by if you have to, I wouldn't recommend using B450 if at all possible, if you intend to upgrade to Zen 3. First, the "beta" there should scare you. I would never trust a beta BIOS unless you're very confident in your tech skills and are willing to absorb the risk of issues, bugs, etc. Second, this is entirely up to the board manufacturers. They could choose not to offer this, if they want, and there's certainly no guarantees that you would get regular performance/security fixes like you would on the GA BIOS releases.
