  1. I forgot to mention with my I7 3820, I started getting warnings about it not being compatible. RDR2 had an update one day that would refuse me to load the game anymore, no matter what I tried. Then when Forza Motosports came out, I would get a warning saying this CPU is not supported. However I just hit ok and it would play the game just fine on mixed settings. I played Cyberpunk and BF 2042 with this set up aswell, good enough graphics that it didn't kill my eyes. However the upgrade I just made was huge, bc of the gap between builds. Freaking 14900k, 4090 with 96gb of ddr5 is blowing my mind, something you will experience for yourself when you get to that point.
  2. If your doing fine with it thats all that matters really. New generation of stuff is around the corner if you want to wait, but there may be growing pains with it, who knows. I was in your shoes, maybe worse. I just finished my new build end of Nov, I was rocking a I7 3820 with 32gb of DDR3 which took 8sticks lol. That PC still runs games with mixed settings, on 1080p ofcourse. Waiting about 11 years between builds is a culture shock
  3. I dont know if this counts, but it was my first build about 10-11 years ago. Still runs and works but outdated, I just finished my new build this month.
  4. Thank you for the info, I really do appreciate your time.
  5. So i ran the onboard ASUS mem test ( it passed ) and cinebench. The temps in cinebench where alot higher than games ofcourse. So I tried to Undervolt it even more. I dont think I was lucky in the silicon lottery but it may also have to do with me not fully understanding things. The CB test did hit 100 randomly and the CPU was hitting 6.1. I used XTU and undervolted it as much as I could, but -0.050v was the max I could take it. I don think this is stable either even though it passed 30 min run. Forza Motorsport for example had this weird spike on startup that would ramp up and crash, so I raised the voltage to -0.045v and it would launch. I think others are able to undervolt alot more than me, again maybe I dont understand. Im not sure if this effects what i can do, but I have Corsair Titanium 6600 ram x96gb (2x48) XMP 2 is enabled so Im getting just the 6600. I figure ill mess around with XMP 1 once I better understand what Im doing. Does this put alot more strain on the CPU causing it to hit those random 100 spikes in CB? Is there a way I can force the CPU to thermal throttle @90c instead of 100? I never see those temps though when gaming or editing or anything else so far. Just when testing it.
  6. Im new to this gen of CPUs, in fact my last build had an I7 3820 and it still runs good, but very outdated. My new build (nothing special) has the 14900k with a Z790 Dark hero and 2x48 corsair Titanium ram. I used XTU to under volt .030v and changed nothing in the bios except XMP. Im wondering about temps CPU idles for normal youtube and searching stuff 32 to 35,36,37 and hits 40-45 sometimes when Im doing other things. Ive also seen very short spikes of 70 (rare)now and then. In game on a 3440x1440 UW it runs 50 to 60 with 72-78 spikes. Do these temps look right? 7. Im almost ready to start this build, and was wondering about a couple of things with this board. -Is there anything in the bios I need to mess with from the start? From what I understand, I need to undervolt this CPU, but I would like to do that through Intels XTU. -According to the manual, I cannot use M2_1 bc it will share lanes. So my boot drive should go into M2_2, then use M2_3(games) and M2_4 for storage? Here is the complete list for the build. 8. Budget (including currency): Im not sure TBH. Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I would like it to be an all around setup. Other details I took the advice from the community and waited, I scrapped my old plans, so now Im getting geared up to advance. Im looking for advice on things I can order now while waiting for the other parts. This is going to be a family project, so my wife can enjoy the process. We are both excited to build this together. Current Parts: -ASUS 1200w Thor PSU -ROG RYujin 360 AIO w Push/Pull Noctua fans. -ROG Strix Helios RGB ATX/EATX mid-tower No peripherals needed except for Monitor What IM looking at: -CPU: Ryzen 3950 or 3950x (My last CPU was Intel) -GPU: ROG-STRIX-RTX3090 -Motherboard: I need help with this one, Im looking at the x570 Boards. Ive watched so many YT vids everything has blurred together. If that makes sense. -Memory: Looking for 64gb min. Last ram I bought was Corsair Dominators in 2012 and they still perform well. -Storage: Samsung seems to be the way to go. Would like advice on it. -Monitor: I have no idea as of now, but this set up should run anything I get. ..............I hope anyway. Other Questions: Should I wait for future CPU releases? Is it safe for me to pull the trigger on a MB that is suggested? Is it safe to go ahead and purchase the Ram that is suggested? Thank You for the help!!
  9. Anyone know if the new CPUs being released this year are compatible with existing boards? I was thinking I could go ahead order the MB, or should i also wait on that?
  10. I really do appreciate the feedback everyone and it was great to look over your suggested build paths. For the fans and the 360 AIO, Ill use a push/pull with Noctua fans. Ive used them in my last build and they preformed great. The ASUS AIO actually come with 3 120mm Noctua fans anyway. From reading over the comments, I need to wait for the new models to avail. Which sucks, bc I thought they were doing new models releases end of last year. Which is why I waited till summer 2020. I just hope my old girl can stay up and going for a while longer. I cant complain though, it lasted 8 years still runs games between a mix of High and ultra settings. The only thing Ive changed is SSDs and GPUs. Here is a kiker: The Corsair H100 is STILL on this PC and Still keeps my CPU cool. I keep a very close eye on temps, and Ive seen a very slight increase over time. Hats off to that little guy! I lucked out!
  11. Budget (including currency): $2,000 (flexible) Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games and normal workstation stuff, nothing special. Other details My first build was in early 2012 I think. CPU: I7 3820 OC to 4.3 Memory: 32gb Corsair Dominator @ 2133 8x4gb sticks MB: ASUS Rampage 4 Extreme Upgraded GPUs as time went by ofcourse. Im still using this PC (although the on board sound went out today dang it) My new list consist of ( things I already have) PSU: ASUS ROG Thor 1200 AIO: ROG Ryujin 360 OS: Will be Windows 10 Pro No peripherals needed Advice Im looking for CPU: Im stumped on intel and Amd. I was looking at the 3900x or I9-9900k but I have no idea. Maybe something better and cheaper for what I need? MB: Ofcourse Ill need a motherboard that will work with the CPU, I would like something easy to overclock this time. My overclocking is nothing to complicated and the rampage extreme was overkill I think. Ram: Im shooting for 32gbs again. Things to consider: (Im familiar with ASUS but open to dependable Brands) Monitor: Ill run a single monitor @ 4K 144hz ASUS Brand most likely GPU: depending on how much I spend for the other stuff. I would like to use a AMD GPU if they have one good enough. What Im looking at right now is a RTX 2080 I think I covered everything, thank you for any help.
