@duniek That's good to know, I've still not got a GPU together to test on this system yet. Do you have a link to the x4 version? The wider cable may give me issues reaching it to the right place, but we'll have to see...   I actually have another update coming, but I'll leave it till after Christmas to sort the photos out. And maybe add a little more progress, who knows.

    Until then, Merry Christmas everyone

Couldn't get much work done today, but confirmed that the height should be fine, and stared a 3D print for the backplate but I won't be able to work on it or update until at least the beginning of January, sorry for the lack of progress but hopefully it should be done soon after I can start work again!

Completely forgot to take pictures today, but progress is being made, the case is mostly done being cut and the controlller port usb adapters are both ready for soldering to the inputs on thursday, the plan is to run the USB wires from them directly into a USB 2.0 header on the board, the biggest thing left to do is the milling of the GPU heatsink in order to meet height clearances and wiring up the bottom board in order for it to work with the motherboard, we are planning to not just keep the buttons but the LEDs as well. edit: I found an actual schematic lol

Actually we may be onto something already. I better start saving for components

I spoke up on the Small Form Factor forum, with my question regarding power for the build. I ended up hearing from a member called Kmpkt, who seems to be a partner of the site, and manufactures what sounds like the perfect solution. I was initially planning to use an external brick, with an HDPLEX 160 internally, from which I would run all my power cables.

    ^HDPLEX 160w

But as you can see, this is really designed for Mini-ITX, with 24-pin and EPS power plugs built in. Because STX motherboards are run off of DC barrel jacks, this would have been tucked into a corner away from the board, with an adapter cable running a DC barrel connector, to the motherboard.

What Kmpkt was suggesting, whilst being his own product, actually makes sense. The KMPKT Dynamo 360 is a similar idea but better suited to my needs. It still takes DC power, from an external brick. But it does away with the standard motherboard power connectors, and he said it comes with the adapter in the box, to pass power out to the motherboard using a barrel-style connector. It's designed for just this kind of application, STX boards, and also 'Thin' ITX boards, which also use DC barrel connectors.

    ^Kmpkt Dynamo 360

The downside is that this board is obviously slightly larger. But paired with a sufficient external power brick, it should give me plenty of headroom(should I be brave enough to upgrade, without having to re-think my entire power solution), and it fits almost perfectly into the modem area that already exists in the case. I was previously planning on shoving the HDPLEX somewhere near the front, and I wasn't sure what to do with the modem area. I guess this kinda solves my problem!  I'll try and get away with not completely cutting the section out, just adding access holes for wires etc. I'm a sucker for organisation, and having an seperate PSU compartment sounds lovely...

But just like the stand-offs on the bottom of the case, this is a hurdle we'll have to cross when we actually get the components.

Although the spec hasn't been finalised, the shell can be prepped for components.

The main issue is vertical space. The top of the Dreamcast isn't flat, but thankfully it's tallest in the centre and tapers downwards on the front corners. Rear corners are tall, and contain the hinge mechanism which doesn't stretch across the rear of the console. So in theory, the rear of the case can be cut away from floor to ceiling, whilst still retaining a functional lid  With the lid on, maximum build height will be just under 70mm

So far I've been planning the build using simple paper mock-ups of components, and the STX motherboard sits beautifully right at the bottom of the case without even having to cut away the modem cavity. This is the essential advantage over ITX, whilst the larger board would fit within the overall dimensions, it would have to sit higher up in the wider part of the case, meaning there'd be no hope of fitting a GPU and leaving wasted space below it. I have a paper cut out labelled as a 1050 mini, but the 750 mini has identical dimensions and even the same cooler, so that will be butchered in the process of planning this build. Not to mention I've not bought a 1050 yet...and that it also costs 3-4 times as much...

The plan today was to remove anything unnecessary plastic that intruded on internal space. Which meant the disc tray cavity, and the significant 'lip' on the edge of the lid, had to go. I also need to trim all the stand-offs in the bottom half of the case, but I'm putting that off just incase some of them are useful for mounting once I decide on a motherboard.

The latch has been left there, but the portion of the mechanism on the case itself is very bulky so that may have to be rethought into a new, smaller mechanism, Which would also help in fitting a larger cooling fan into the default fan slot, which is definitely going to be required, so win-win.

Honestly, I would say it's on the company for not having a good business plan. They could have gone on Patreon to help bring in money to keep their business going, but chose not to. Another thing that definitely would've helped would be going on YouTube or Instagram to help drive their business and exposure instead of relying on Facebook.

I'm not saying they're wrong to use Facebook as their primary exposure, but they should've had a backup plan or another place ready to go in case there was a problem.

This is card is currently useless due to the card shortage. Wrong time to launch this, MSI. You would have done better with increasing mining card production by a bit, and then converting those lines to something that makes this later.
I would buy this though, if I could. But I can't.

I think the problem is people thinking YouTube is a viable career to jump right into. It takes time to build a base, a brand, and enough of a following that you're actually considered successful. If everyone could hop on and make a living, I'm sure we'd all sit at home in our skivvies for most of the day making short videos. YouTube is much like acting. We'd all love the life, few of us have the talent and/or dedication to follow it through. Those that do, might prosper.

I think I spotted Gigabyte 1080 TI Mini ITX on Aorus Destiny 2 bundle page. I was curious if my card is valid to redeem destiny 2 bundle from gigabyte and I spotted a model number that looks like 1080TI Mini ITX from Gigabyte, GV-N108TIX-11GD   Yes, I know there's already 1080 TI 'Mini' from Zotac, but it's not ITX-sized, its ~210mm long!     Full page screenshot https://i.imgur.com/iT9kbhe.png   Link https://www.aorus.com/game_bundle.php?Page=84 (Login Required ;/)   Google won't find anything for this model number, while every other card model number leads at least to the gigabyte's page, so I assume it's unannounced yet. I also didn't find anything about 1080 TI mini from gigabyte either.   It looks like 1080TI Mini ITX to me because:   1) Gigabyte 1080 TI models are marked with 108T and 11GD marks the 11GB model like the base 1080TI:   GV-N108TAORUS-11GD https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N108TAORUS-11GD#kf GV-N108TGAMING-11GD https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N108TGAMING-11GD#kf GV-N108TTURBO-11GD https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N108TTURBO-11GD#kf   2) Gigabyte Mini ITX models are marked with IX:   GV-N1060IX-3GD https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N1060IX-3GD-rev-10#kf GV-N1060IXOC-3GD https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N1060IXOC-3GD#kf GV-N1060IX-6GD https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N1060IX-6GD-rev-10#kf GV-N1060IXOC-6GD https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N1060IXOC-6GD#kf GV-N1070IX-8GD https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N1070IX-8GD-rev-10#kf GV-N1070IXOC-8GD https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N1070IXOC-8GD#kf GV-N1080IX-8GD https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N1080IX-8GD#kf   3) Gigabyte 1080 Mini ITX (GV-N1080IX-8GD) is also on that list, just higher between 1080's so it doesn't seem like a typo.   Am I late to the party for not knowing that Gigabyte is making 1080 TI Mini ITX ? Or did Aorus website really leak that info?

I use my fingerprint for pretty much anything I can at this stage, it's no different to me than pressing a button to wake the device to instead put my finger on the fingerprint reader which automatically unlocks my device. I also use it for access to lastpass for example, and others more secure apps that I use like banking etc. This to me is more secure than having to have passwords that are memorable, and for some things I use 2-factor authentication too. I still have some very secure passwords that I DO remember and don't trust to lastpass, so that I am not completely compromised if lastpass gets hacked. But I do change my lastpass passes every so often to hopefully off-set any attacks that haven't been discovered yet.

I have very little chance of someone getting my phone, I rarely use it in a public setting, but I have my backup phone, or my family to remotely wipe/lock the phone in the event that something does happen. I'm not really concerned about the device itself, I usually have budget handsets anyway, my current one is a Xiaomi redmi note 4, which was around $140, so not even worth insuring TBH.... so would just replace it if something happened, just don't want my data accessed.
