  1. If you can stagger the spin-up of the HDDs, you should be fine. Just be aware that if the HDDs all start at the same time, the current may exceed the PSU rating briefly, and you may find some drives not available. If you have a UPS and won't be turning the system off very often, you'll probably be ok with the 250W, but check the 5V and 12V rail specs, and maybe do some testing. Don't rely on the total power ratings, as they don't apply on system start in many cases.
  2. Could be many things, but sometimes having this File Explorer option enabled can help:
  3. Sorry but this is a case of user error - or misunderstanding. If you are signed in to a service (ie, a token is kept locally), and you suddenly change IP address by connecting to a VPN, then that token is not valid for the new IP/location. Windows update works because it doesn't require you to be signed in to anything.
  4. Best ban PC gaming then. That truly has no output that is useful.
  5. Still "limping along" on a 1060 3GB here... so, you're fine. Can always upgrade when all the madness is over if you really want.
  6. Can you show us your pagefile settings? Press [Windows key] and R, and type in SystemPropertiesAdvanced with no spaces and hit enter. Click on Settings under the "Performance" header. Click the Advanced tab Under Virtual Memory, click on "Change..." Give us a screenshot of the resulting page Just close all the windows from above when you're done.
  7. lol have they somehow set the pagefile to be larger than the disk?! That'd explain the "out of memory" error
  8. Basically, yeah: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/compare.html?productIds=65719,65732 But it's a Xeon, so better silicon binning.
  9. Oh wow, that is outstanding for that price - I'd probably buy that even if I didn't need it...You were going to buy an SSD anyway, so no HDD is fine.
  10. As long as you de-clutter Windows 10, and remove all the bloatware, it should be fine. I still use an old Xeon X3360 (Q45 chipset) system for my admin/financial stuff with Win10 and Office 2016. Only an HD6450 for graphics, but even the on board Intel GMA graphics are fine.
  11. Seems a decent deal. i7 is obv nicer if you can fit it into your budget, but do NOT get an AMD FX era CPU, they are awful. If you're just doing office work and browsing, the built-in Intel GPU will be fine. You can always add a bigger GPU later, like the cheap 1030 option if you feel the i5/i7 GPU isn't cutting it. I don't see you have issues at 1080p though. SSD is a good idea - 240GB are around £30/$40 at the moment. I reckon one of those nice metal Kingston A400 ones will be great. PSU should be fine for adding a low power GPU - if you get a fanless 1030, it won't be drawing much power.
  12. I use a solid metal one. Nice in summer, but on a winter morning, it's a sharp wake up that rivals a triple espresso.
  13. You could probably merge the downloading PC into the "new" one yes, but is an i7 setup not infinitely better than the A10-5800 one? I had that pre-ryzen CPU made of lies (it's dual core lying about being quad)...
  14. No, that pin is always missing.
  15. Take out the CPU, RAM and GPU, and re-fit them (with the power disconnected).
  16. Then it comes down to the two main router capabilities - what are they? Ideally you only want Plex available, for security (from malware etc), rather than a fully shared LAN. So on your diagram: If you can tell me what IP subnets are in use right now at each LAN, I can do you a plan later on after some sleep (it's 00:30 here in the UK). PM me if you want so I don't forget.
  17. You may be right - they're even over £100 on AliExpress... Were there any Xeon-hacks for the 6th gen? Might be a way cheaper option if so. Remember the old 771 Xeons that could be modded with some tape to work in a 775 socket?
  18. Do you have line of sight between the two houses? If you do, you'll need directional dish antennae. If there is no line of sight, don't bother.
  19. Only trouble there is that the 1060 was a popular mining card. I'd be wary of used GPUs of that era tbh. A non-K CPU upgrade from i3 to i7 is a safer option, and will give noticeable overall improvement.
  20. Get HWInfo, and see what that reports. It may shed light on what's happening? https://www.hwinfo.com/
  21. Should work fine, but it's a bit on the slower side for the new faster CPU. Whether you notice will depend on what you use the PC for - if it's just gaming, you should be ok.
  22. LTT Staff Potatoshop Mashup is going to happen now... only bad things can come of this.
  23. If it's just the screws, maybe. Which ones exactly? They're all metric as far as I know. Otherwise the only reliable source of parts is from Fractal themselves. Often low stock and long waiting times though. I got some additional drive cages for a Node 804 - took months to get them.
