redcan0 reacted to King of Memes in Was buying a 5900X a waste of money?
i mean, i understand what your saying. but if you can't utilize more than 8 cores, anything above 8 cores is a waste. games at max use 8 cores (and most probably dont benefit from more than 6) so i feel like the 5800x would be better value, but if you can ultilize 12 cores (say your a content creator) than yeah, for just $100 50% more cores and threads that will help your workloads, definetely.

redcan0 got a reaction from Zando_ in 6900 XT ideal junction temperature
That makes sense. Ill try and lower the power a bit and see what happens then.

redcan0 reacted to Zando_ in 6900 XT ideal junction temperature
There's your answer. Up to 110C junction temps are within AMD spec. As for whether that's ideal for you or not, I can't really say. The card won't burn up as that temp is within safe limits, but you are pushing higher clocks than spec so it's kinda up to what you're comfortable with. Same as how Intel's spec for CPUs allows up to 95-100C, but I'm really not comfortable with my CPU regularly being over 85C.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Not because AMD doesn't have driver issues, but because Nvidia most definitely have driver issues too...

redcan0 reacted to KiddoTech in Concerns about the 6900 XT
I used the 6800xt before and honestly it is a brilliant card to have. It even outplays the 3080 sometimes. But if you are a fan on ray tracing then go for team green

redcan0 reacted to Levent in My plan for buying a new GPU what do you think?
Those prices look awfully similiar to my local prices. I personally wouldnt sell my 3070 and be stuck with a 960 for over a year.

redcan0 reacted to Levent in My plan for buying a new GPU what do you think?
Define cheap, everything is insanely overpriced. I wouldnt buy shit right now. Use what you got.

Yeah. I went with a 5600X. Thanks everyone for the advice.

A few days ago i messed around with my old FX8350, and overclocked it to 4.6ghz with a prism cooler. The cpu was pulling 250watts. But the prism kept it cool enough. Being a bit loud is the only drawback id say. I think youre fine with the prism 🙂

redcan0 reacted to Jack0f5pades in Should I get a 5600X or 10600K?
I got a Wraith Prism for my 3600 for the exact same reason. AIOs were expensive and tower coolers were ugly. The Wraith Prism has more than enough TDP rating to cool the 5600x iirc. I'd just recommend buying one from the official AMD Amazon page because if you buy one off ebay like I did and then it fails for some reason, it will be much harder to replace or refund, even if it is a bit more expensive.

Okay then go for the prism, you can always change it down the road to an aio or something.

I would upgrade the cooler. But you can start with wraith prism if you want to.

redcan0 reacted to Naijin in Controlling ICUE 4000X from Armoury Crate
From experience with a Corsair Crystal 460X, it only works in iCUE. Only the RGB and ARGB headers on the motherboard are supported in Armoury Crate.
-
redcan0 reacted to Stahlmann in Controlling ICUE 4000X from Armoury Crate
Corsair stuff only works inside iCUE. But i've seen adapters that convert standard 5V RGB into the poprietary corsair RGB header so you can control it inside iCUE.

icue has a plugin to work with armoury crate. I use it with my vengance rgb pro ram and it works fine

redcan0 reacted to Ankh Tech in Controlling ICUE 4000X from Armoury Crate
yes but then icue controls armory crate stuff, not the opposite

redcan0 reacted to Dr0y in Is the 10600K too overkill for a 1080 Ti
That's kind of a strange combo, b550 or x570 would be better imo but it's probably a way to get rid of those b450 leftover or something like that ... also I don't know if it's the case where you are but here the 5600x is close to impossible to find so I would tend to go for that combo just cause it's good and really rare ... it's quite good for gaming, way better than the 3600 in the previous post, comparable to or better than the 10600k I think if I remember correctly. I would go for that one paired with some 3600 cl16 memory ... if (and only if) you care about pcie gen 4 you should buy an x570 motherboard and sell the b450. When I was looking for one my favorite were the x570 msi tomahawk and the x570 asus tuf

I'd go for the 10600K, at 1080p the CPU is a bit more important

redcan0 reacted to GoodEnough in Is the 10600K too overkill for a 1080 Ti
it really depends at what fps you play at
-
redcan0 reacted to xg32 in Is the 10600K too overkill for a 1080 Ti
3600 would be a considerable bottleneck vs a 10600k for a 1080ti, even more so if you plan to upgrade your gpu in the future, the 3600 isn't really an option.

redcan0 reacted to jones177 in Does the 1080 Ti still make sense in 2021?
Mine make lots of sense. I have 3 in use now. They are EVGA SC2s running at stock.
I will show you how they do.
Keep in mind that these games are on the highest presets except for the RDR 2 HUB settings.
They are fine at 1440p on modern games and at 4k with older games like GTA 5.
SOTTR 1440p
GTA 5 4k
RDR 2 1440p

Some retailers will flash the BIOS for you to confirm compatibility, but this has been hit or miss in the past. In stroe places like a Microcenter can flash it for you with a store CPU, but otherwise I'm not aware of any way to flash BIOS without having a Ryzen 3000 series CPU first. AMD used to send out an old chip back when people were flashing Ryzen 2000 to B350 boards, but I dont believe that is being offered anymore.

ARGB shouldn't be a "killer" for a better performing system. Dont sacrifice performance in the name of aesthetics, that's my personal golden rule when I'm making decisions.
Besides, you can get external ARGB controllers for stuff like that.

redcan0 reacted to TVwazhere in Does the 1080 Ti still make sense in 2021?
The Hybrid I'd only be convened about due to the age of the loop. The card itself should be totally fine, and hybrids are historically the strongest performers for overclocking. Five years for an AIO isnt unheard of for "still going strong", but just keep an eye on temps as even through the rubber tubing, the liquid evaporates over time through it.
