I very rarely write my own name in conversations with people who already know me, unless I'm signing off an email - but when I do, it's capitalised.

If I am talking about other people, I always capitalise their names. It's just respectful.

I keep most of my money in savings accounts which don't have cards. The account which does have a card (would probably be called a "checking account" in the US - it's a "current account" in the UK) only has a small amount and no arranged overdraft. This minimises the amount of money that can be stolen using the card.

I would strongly recommend that you consider doing this in the future. No disrespect or blame to the OP for this - they were probably unaware of the threat - but there's no way in hell I'd be keeping over $5000 in an account with a card which I carry around and use in cash machines.

Of course it's situational... but the applicability of any mode of transport is situational.

Nobody would go to an out of town store, but a sofa and carry it home on a bike. But equally nobody would get in their car to visit their friend just across the street, unless the street is so large they can't actually cross it (which isn't that common for residential streets except in some bits of America).

To be fair that's because the Netherlands generally puts a lot of effort into making their streets not just efficient but also safe and attractive.

I live in the UK and the only time a street gets improved here is if there is a massive flashy project. There no kind of rolling programme to rebuild all streets to make them safer: the closest we get is just putting a new top layer of asphalt down.

If anyone proposes putting in cycle paths, modal filters, wider footpaths and so on, there are NIMBYs claiming it will create traffic. No, what's creating traffic is people insisting driving round the corner to buy a pint of milk when it would literally take 5 mins to walk there. Or 2 mins on the new cycle paths.

A few city centre places have Dutch-style paths and they are well-used in rush hour. So much so that if everyone on a bike got in a car instead, there would be absolute gridlock.

Hopefully we see other major smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung, Nokia and Blackberry following suit with this. It looks like a good move for the industry overall.

In the command line, change to the directory you want to search in, then
    find -name pattern

(There are other things you can search by and for instead: see https://www.gnu.org/software/findutils/manual/html_mono/find.html)

Or alternatively, you can do it in almost every GUI file manager - usually by looking for a magnifying glass icon.

You may be violating the license agreement by installing Windows 10 Enterprise from an organisation's license agreement on a computer that isn't part of that organisation (which you would be doing if the license comes from your brother's work, for example)

But as long as you do have a valid license, why wouldn't you be able to? Games are just Windows programs like any other.

    Huh? Looks OK to me...

I understand being a bit confused by package managers but I think it's a matter of familiarity.  Whenever I have to set up a Windows machine I find it quite  an annoying and overwhelming task to have to go and search for all the software I want in the browser and download their individual installers, and then they all have slightly different UIs.

That is a very misleading statement. The vast majority of Linux systems do not make you link an online account. In Linux Mint, that popup doesn't appear automatically  - to get it at all you have to find it manually or launch a Gnome application such as Evolution which actually uses that functionality before it will appear in the first place. And even in this screenshot you have an unambiguous Skip button which makes it go away and not come back.

Closer to reality than you may think unfortunately, with Monsanto using patents to stop people from distributing seeds. There's quite a good (albeit old) article about this in the Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/feb/12/monsanto-sues-farmers-seed-patents if anyone wants a starting point for further reading, but I won't go into loads of detail here as it's quite far off-topic

A lot of phones are ditched because the battery no longer holds enough charge. (Admittedly not in the first year, but I wasn't talking specifically about that). And what about if you break the screen? That could happen at any point during the lifetime of the device.

It's generally assumed, at least in the western developed world, that people should be free to do anything that is not expressly forbidden. Can you think of a compelling reason why replacing the battery in one's own phone should be forbidden?
