  1. There is no technical reason why you can't have a system like this; it's done in the UK.
  2. Maybe the video was uploaded unlisted and only actually made public later. This would result in the video going live with the listed time being longer than it's actually been viewable for.
  3. If the surge protector works properly and there's nothing critical that would be lost in a power cut then there's not really any point. I live in the UK and there is a battery backup in my house. It only goes into battery mode on the rare occasion an RCD trips or for the odd very short power cut, which occurs once or twice a year as an absolute maximum. (I can't remember the last time we were without power for more than a few minutes). What is worth nothing, though, is that without a UPS, any power cut will immediately turn off your home internet router, even if your laptop is working. It won't damage the router but you will be without internet unless you are happy using mobile data or whatever.
  4. I think it was monday.com. Not idea if they are still using that. It was a sponsored video though, so make of that what you will.
  5. To me, tomato sauce is something savoury that you might eat with pasta. That's not ketchup! Those two are fine Doesn't that depend on what exactly you're doing from day to day more than anything else?
  6. If all the functionality is duplicated in the web app (which I think it may be, though I'm not totally sure) then I don't really see the problem with this.
  7. Granted, it's on fire. Granted, they discontinue both Steam and the Nintendo eShop to bring in a new store with the content from both, they mess up the migration process and you have to buy all of your games again. I wish for a cup of tea.
  8. If mass adoption of EVs forces people on long journeys to take a break every few hours, more frequently in poor weather conditions (as they should be doing anyway to avoid getting tired enough to lose concentration), that is a good thing for road safety. Similarly if it encourages people to maximise their car's efficiency, that is also a good thing.
  9. Don't even bother trying to run Adobe Creative Cloud stuff on a Linux machine. Regardless of distro, it doesn't work, and seemingly won't for the foreseeable future. Office 365 is fine if you don't mind the browser-based versions, but if you need the desktop versions and can't settle for LibreOffice for some reason - again, it simply won't work. If you're fed up with Windows, try to gradually switch away from Adobe and Microsoft products over a longer period of time, finding Linux-compatible alternatives that you like. Then once most of your needs are met by Linux anyway, you can finally switch operating system.
  10. They're no uglier than typical roof tiles anyway, as far as I'm concerned!
  11. The proportion of the space that is actually being used is tiny though. The majority of buildings that could have solar panels on the roof don't, and that's before even considering the space set aside for other uses (such as vast areas of car parking) that could perfectly reasonably have them added.
  12. Well, we could, but that comes with its own set of problems. In particular it's not great for the energy security of individual nations as uranium mines only exist in a few places. It also can't be scaled rapidly to cope with peaks in demand, so you would need either storage (and if you're going to need that, why not just use renewables anyway) or other sources to supplement it.
  13. Bird strikes undoubtedly happen with wind turbines - but assuming the suitable locations are chosen it's not the absolute travesty some would like to paint it as. To put it into perspective, in the UK, orders of magnitude more birds are killed each year by people's domestic cats than by wind turbines. (Yes, there are obviously orders of magnitude more domestic cats than wind turbines, but how much low-CO2 electricity do they produce for us?) And don't forget fossil-fuel fired power stations are far from blameless when it comes to harming wildlife also.
  14. It's not ideal. But it's still possible for a domestic rooftop solar panel installation to pay for itself over its lifetime, especially if you time usage carefully (i.e. if possible doing things that use a lot of electricity when it's sunny outside)
  15. At the time I predicted that all the melodrama about how this would ruin the platform would turn out to be utter BS, and that everyone would adapt and then pretty much forget about it - just like every other major change YouTube has made. I am happy to report that I have seen nothing suggesting that my prediction is anything less than entirely correct.
  16. Use the online version, or if it's for work or education purposes and your workplace/school has a bulk license, ask to use that. Other than that, there is no way to get it legally, and this forum does not assist with piracy or illegal acts (both because of forum rules and the morals of the individual members).
  17. To be fair, that comment was fairly tounge-in-cheek. On balance I'd probably rather put my shin pads on and use a Mac, but I think that's a simple matter of familiarity. I don't think either is particularly amazing. I use arch btw
  18. Banned because JPEG uses a lossy compression algorithm which is generally optimised for photos, and this can cause rather noticeable artefacts in things such as logos which have blocks of colour, so using PNGs is generally better in that case.
  19. Banned because someone already banned me for that.
  20. Banned for Viewing Topic: 'LTT forum "banning" game'
  21. Banned for caring about post and answer counts
