  1. That's fair, I did buy from Amazon, but even if they do take it back, the bottom line is I do still want to upgrade, and I don't want to buy the i7-7700k since I would be spending an extra $70 compared to the i7-9700 for an older processor. Would rather put that $70 towards a new motherboard if the one I have really is completely deprecated for all intents and purposes.
  2. Realistically, I'd rather just replace the motherboard at this point rather than go through the hassle of returning the processor (which I probably can't do since it's been opened, slathered with thermal paste etc). Before I go down that route, can anyone anticipate any gotchas that might occur from replacing the motherboard? Any reason my Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB would not work on a new motherboard?
  3. I imagine that's the problem then. Can you provide more details as to why? They both go in an LGA1151 slot. Edit: we got in an edit race That really sucks, I guess I will just throw the i7 in the ocean and my entire computer as well.
  4. Here is some information about my computer: OS: Windows 10 CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 Motherboard: Asus Z170-P (ATX DDR4 Intel LGA 1151) Power supply: EVGA 700 B1 Bronze 700W I recently bought an Intel Core i7-9700 to replace my Intel Core i3-6100. I put the new chip in my computer, plugged the computer back in, flipped the switch on my PSU, pressed the power button, and... Nothing. I could see a few LEDs on my motherboard were lit up, so the computer definitely had power. But pressing the power button, it behaved as if the computer wasn't even plugged in. Quickly threw my i3 back in and verified the computer turned on fine. So it's something with the i7. My only hunch was maybe my BIOS needed to be updated, so I did update it to the latest version available (here on the Asus website). Still the same result. Questions: Can anyone who understands BIOS better let me know if you think my BIOS might be the problem? When I updated my BIOS, there was an option in the BIOS itself to "Update via internet" and that's what I did. As far as I can tell, it went fine. Is there any reason I would need to update via a USB stick instead? Do I just need a newer motherboard? If so, why? As far as I can tell, the LGA1151 slot on my motherboard should be fine. Can anyone recommend more steps to troubleshoot?
