CPU will not change much things on power supply demand. Don't worry about it. Afterall it's basically the same CPU that you already have, but 8 threads instead 4 threads. Which is enough to massively improve frames and GPU usage on every modern game.

About CPU, i7 880 is the best you can have on this motherboard indeed. But any i7 Lynfield would help a lot. Don't worry to much to buy the best, the difference is only few Mhz on the base clock. i7 760 have only 0.2Ghz less. It doenst make any real difference.

Wow, really exotic system. Love it! But sadly on AAA modern games (Warzone, Breakpoint, Odyssey, Valorant, Fortnite, Red Dead Redemption 2, etc), buying anything better than GTX1660 Super or 1660TI you will have some noticeable bottleneck here and there, wasting GPU potential.

So if you're not planning upgrading the system to a modern platform (new Intel or AMD) in any moment of the next years, my advice is to buy something like 5600XT, GTX1660 Super or 1660TI. More than that without any upgrade would be just waste of money since 3820 would bottleneck it anyway. With these VGAs, you will be able to play anything at 1080p@High@60FPS (depending on game much more than 60FPS).

If you're planning to move to something new like Ryzen or new Intel, go and buy the best you can with 500$.

1.) Yes you can but definitely dont expect maxing out settings in games.
2.) There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to get a 240Hz monitor and run it at 144Hz.
3.) If your FPS will be anywhere between 30-240FPS then the monitor will run at the same Hz as your FPS because of G-Sync, thats the whole point of adaptive refresh rate.

You will have bottleneck on some modern games that are hungry for cores, but nothing to really worry about it. Go for it!

You can upgrade it to a i7 870 if you dont want to buy a motherboard and it's enough to keep GTX970 at 100% GPU usage most of the time even on modern games. If you're not sure about it, a Core i7 2600 or Core i7 3770 would do the same.

If you want a new system, Ryzen 3100 or 2400G would do the job, same for Core i3 9100F.

Forget about these bottleneck calculatores. It just doesnt work. It's a generic recommendation that most of the time it's just wrong.

To me a bottleneck is still a bottleneck even when it is the GPU.

My setup has both CPU and GPU bottlenecks. For CPU I bottleneck at 4k in games like GTA 5 and at 1440p in games like SOTTR. GPU bottlenecks are when I use RT or play RDR 2.

All the bottlenecks are not a problem because the refresh rates of my monitors are lower than the bottlenecks.
If I used a 1440p 144hz monitor the CPU bottleneck would be a problem since it is usually in the 130fps range on AAA games. For GPU it is at 4k well over 60fps so it will be a problem when I upgrade to 4k 120hz.

There are no upgrades for me yet to get rid of my bottlenecks but the OP has a chance to have a more balanced system if they went with something like a 2070s.

Yeap, 100% right. That's exaclty why I have mentioned that bottleneck needs a parameter to be measured. What game and what resolution are needed.

At 90C i can guarantee that you're having less performance than should (15~20% for sure!) since every modern VGA have thermal throttling system to prevent damage, including every RX480 model.

Try older drivers, take a good look on fans too, make sure they're working properly.

Probably you should try to change the thermal paste for a new one (a good one) and see what's happening.

Ok that's easy enough. Your particular model probably has a 0RPM mode. So under a certain temp (more often than not, 60C), your fans won't spin at all to keep your GPU virtually silent. So once you hit load I'd assume you hit 60C, and your fans just keep it in that ballpark. I assume if you had a curve set up at idle you'd be a lot cooler. That makes sense

Before buy theres not too much to check if you can't actually test it.

Only look for scratches, some oxidation, these few things purely visual.

If you can test, run some benchmarks like Superposition or Furmark for as long as you could. If not, do it as soon as you can. Keep a eye on temps, this is very important too. Dependind on VGA, something about 70C to 75C is desirable.

Every motherboard that supports Ryzen 2200G is compatible with 3rd gen Ryzens. Anyway, Ryzen 5 1600 is not a 3rd gen CPU.

Try at least to buy another 8GB memory mate, it makes HUGE difference on gameplay and maximize CPU performance. 2200G will cause bottleneck, but you will have much stable performance.

Anyway, if the problem becomes only after update drivers, perhaps you should try to reinstalling it using a old one with Clean Install option activated.

It's CPU that bottleneck GPU. GPU bottlenecking CPU is expected and usually show a balanced system. Not always, but usually.

Anyway, if you are a casual gamer and 1650 Super costs much less than 1660 Super, there's no need to buy a 1660 Super, even being 25% superior.

About bottleneck, 9100F would be a bottleneck for 1660 Super for sure in many games (Warzone, Wildlands, The Division 2, Breakpoint and mostly every modern game), but 1650 Super not much, very rare.

Both are very entry level for these chips. Both have some temps issues and specially RX, if I remember well, have a sighlty lower memory clock than default RX570 models, but nothing to worrying too much. RX570 is significantly better than 1650, so you should buy RX570. If you don't play for long and long hours every day, you shouldn't worry about power efficiency, but only about performance.

VRAM at this point means nothing. Both can't handle with bigger resolutions, so it will never be used in a efficiently way.

1024x768 is a resolution that is very very very CPU demand, so keep in mind that GPU doesnt care much.

About Assassins. Let's talk about AC Odyssey. You will need at least a 4/8 modern CPU (AMD 3300x or Intel Core i3 10100) or i7 7700 as CPU and a GTX1660 Super.

Settings on Medium or High doesnt change much the frames on this game.

So expect the next AC will need more to make the same and so on.

For now, if you buy a 1660 Super, i3 will bottleneck very very very hard this game (waste of money). Expect 30~35FPS average. i5 7xxx will bottlenecked it less and you will have something about 45FPS with several drops here and there (not a complete waste, but bottleneck you prevent 1660 Super to reach 100% GPU Usage or get close). i7 you will probably will reach 100% GPU Usage most of the time on the game and will reach 60FPS.

What you expect to play in the next years? What frames that you expect? Because we will have a huge change that would never was seeing before.

New consoles will have 8/16 modern CPU and GPU will be something that will vary from RTX2060 to RTX2080. So expect that everything lower will struggle hard when the firsts engines start to came out. It's hard to precise when, but it will.

Changing subjects, you have a i3 7100 and that's a limiting factor. Upgrading to Core i5 will definitely helps, but anything above RX570 will bottleneck on modern games. If fact, even RX570 is bottlenecked by a i5 7xxx on some games. What I'm saying is: if you buy anything above RX570 and don't upgrade to a i7 or newer platform like Ryzen or new Intel CPU, you will have basicly the same frames since CPU will bottlenecked it.

rodrigoxm49 got a reaction from BTGbullseye in Upgrades is it worth
You're bottlenecking the GTX1060 already on Warzone, so you need already a new CPU. Upgrading to a new and more powerful VGA, you will need a even faster CPU. It's just the way it works.

It will wont help you at all. It's easy to understand. Probably you're having drops from 70% to 90% of GPU usage in this game. See it for yourself using MSI AB or something. If this is true, and probably it's, upgrading VGA will better frames eventually, but the drops and stutterings will be at least the same. Maybe even worst since GPU will be starving for too much time.

Sadly 4/4 CPU is a no go for modern games, including Modern Warfare.

These videos shows the GPU usage on a very similar RIG. Sometimes it reach below 60%. It's a indicator that CPU is not enough. So a upgrade will make the low frames drops at the same level.

3300x is enough for now. Really good CPU. But keep in mind that's a 4/8 CPU. New consoles that will arrives at the end of this year will have 8/16 CPU. Something like Ryzen 7 3800. So don't expect that this CPU will handle for too much time.

In fact, some games are already showing what happens when you have less logical cores than the game is optimized for. Link below. Look for Assassins Creed Odyssey and Battlefield 5. They're paired even 3300x having a better architetury than Ryzen 1600AF.

Now give it a close eye on RDR2. 10% more performance than 3300x. It's a very modern game.

I'm not saying that you should buy a 1600AF and forget about 3300x. It's not that. It's just to keep in mind that 3300x is fast, but in the end it's a quad core that have 8 logical cores, half of the new consoles.

It's very very very hard to find people with a RIG like you because, like I say, its very unbalanced, the bottleneck is absolutley huge and people know it already and try to avoid it. So it's hard to find anything useful on internet. But I find it.

Never seen a choppy and terrible gameplay like this. It's impossible to play. Look at GPU Usage drops reaching 60% just like I said. CPU Usage on 100% all the time causing micro stutterings simply because CPU is making GPU entrying on starving mode. All the time, can you see it???? GPU is basically saying: hey man, i'm here waiting for those draws, those volumetric effects, those IA calculations and those shadows calculations. C'mon! I need more. Sorry, man, this is the max I can do =/.

Performance can vary depending on 6600 clock and memory speed that is being used and resolution too, but this is pretty much what a 6600k can extract from 1080. You can tweak quality settings and things will not change much. In fact, in a situation like this, probably you can have even worst performance on low settings.

You're is missing something: the reality. It's hard, but it is what it is.

Answering your first question: Yes, you wasted money since you have the basically the 1060 performance on 1080 due to CPU limitations. Next time ask on forums before waste money and try to listen to them, something that youre not making now.

    Thats it! Bye!

On modern games it's expected, i5 6600k its a HUGE bottleneck for 1080. It was a bottleneck even for 1060 on modern games. This means that anything better than a 1060 you will have NO BENEFITS at all. At least on modern games. Warzone, BF, Valorant, Wildlands, Assasins, The Division 2 and many many others.

VRAM doens't mean much about performance. It's usefull to use high resolutions only.

So it's pretty normal that you have the same performance than before. 6600k is a no go CPU for modern games. I recommend you to stop to try mitigation effort. It's useless, Maybe you can increase resolution to make 6600k botteleck less. But in the end you will have a very close fps anyway.
