Poinkachu reacted to Godlygamer23 in want to know about CPUs contact pad discoloration?
Something to understand with all this is that the pads are copper with nickel plated over top(electroless nickel I believe), and then immersed in gold. It's possible that some of these areas simply were not as clean as they should've been during the immersion process, and this is the result.

With that being said, I decided to look at my own CPUs for this discoloration, specifically older Intel CPUs, once of which has been through the ringer - my Core i5 3570K which still works to this day. It is currently used as on a secondary test bench of sorts, but I decided to pull it to see what it looked like on the bottom. The other CPU is from the same area - my Core i3 3240, which has hardly seen any use. Unfortunately some of the shots I tried to get were difficult where I couldn't show exactly what I was seeing, but you could still kinda see it.

    First up...

    Core i3 3240:
Nothing to see here. This CPU has barely been used since it was originally purchased, and even as soon as I pulled it out of its box, it was spotless and as expected.

    Second up...

    Core i5 3570K:
This surprised me. I could see it as soon as I pulled it from the socket - a very specific darkened area kind of towards the center, and on the top of the CPU. I'm not exactly sure what it was, but it was able to come off fairly easily - even in this state though, the CPU was perfectly functional.

The below photo is after cleaning it.

No, it would run at PCIe 4x4.
M.2 drives only use a maximum of 4 lanes.

The advertisement says, "One inch lower cylinder free replacement if the current chair highert for you".  I would believe with this information that you need to contact the seller to request the lower cylinder and more than l ikely you would need to send them the longer cylinder prior to receiving the shorter one.

Other than what I have stated above, I don't see where the folks here in the forums could be of any further help.  Sorry.

Stop updating so damn much o.o You should not need to do that. Unless you are having issues, what exactly is the point of doing this? Most of the time these fixes are for known bugs and or QOL and other fixes. But unless you are having those issues, you dont need to keep constantly doing that.

Sure will be fun having to wear NFC blocking gloves everywhere, and that just broadcasts to everyone you HAVE the implant too.  Plus then where is the convenience as you have to remove the gloves to use it, potentially more time consuming than grabbing a card out of your wallet.

I actually used my smart watch to make payments for a while, it took much longer than using my card and had a much higher rate of the readers failing to detect it.

Agreed, it may actually be safer right now due to few people doing it but once its becomes the default then simple muggings no longer exist and instead are more likely to turn into a homicide.

Plus the idea of someone needing to "know where it is", let's be realistic - people will put it in their hand because where else is convenient for use?  You're not going to want to use your butt or foot to open the front door. 😉  So if there is doubt of where in your hand it will be, I guess a mugger will have to take the whole hand, lovely.  I think I'd rather they take my wallet thanks.

Though that still leaves the worry that if most people have it, any mugger will assume you do too, so you can't escape this horrific future.  Even if you put it somewhere else, you'd be subject to this problem.

As someone who is knowledgeable about, and obsessed with, old hardware, I take issue with how LTT covers it - eg. they didn't do the best job covering the XPS M2010 IMO.
But making a 5hr rant is pretty ridiculous.
Because this isn't about the video itself, the guy just wants attention, and making a stupidly long video attacking one of the most popular tech channels out there will certainly attract attention - case in point.

The internal display is probably wired to the integrated graphics. A standard process for almost any device with an iGPU and dGPU with a few exceptions. So more than likely if you disable the iGPU, you'll lose the internal display.

I mainly started using it since with it I can queue and sort which one to be copied first first.

    you tell us......

name the thing you want updated.
one the harder things on the forum isn't fixing or upgrading computers...... it's trying to explain to the owner that all that matters is the machine does the tasks that it needs to do.

getting into the mentality that you HAVE to upgrade or stay current regardless of how well your current machine works is mostly just consumerist propaganda that companies have been pushing since the 1950s. The fear of being "not current" in tech.

Just use your computer. Update an aspect of it when theres a problem or a need.

Poinkachu got a reaction from Fat Cat11997 in How to remove cpu psu cables from mobo
    Option #1 :
Slide in a rubber band, tighten to make it press the lock to open. Grip the connector using finger or nail, wiggle it out.

    Option #2 :
Same as above, change hand/nail with long nosed plier

    Option #3 :
Just keep it in, plug another CPU power cable to the header beside it.
