That's a gen 3 processor... technically zen 2. The ryzen "5" is it's tier...3,5,7 and 9....3 being lowest and 9 bring highest...stick with the board you got and you'll have no problems now or in the future with upgrades.
If she buys a b450 Mobo I'd almost bet 2 whole dollars that it's bios are updated. It would have to be old stock like a eBay or secondary seller who had bought in bulk early. $87 for it on walmart dot com
Why are you so dead set on them using athlon when for the same price they can get a ryzen 3 3200g for the same price
Try this one...just get his power supply.

In the bios just enable xmp...all ram regardless of the clock speed advertised will only run at a max of like 2666. You need to enable xmp to get the rated speed. Allow you need to do is click it on in the bios, save and reboot. Real simple I am just not fsmaliar with how aorus bios is laid out and worded
I went step by step through there process, maybe they need to make it easier because during making the post there was no build log stuff. But did you come here to give props or bust my ass....
............ Jesus....I ended it with lol. 75% of "newbies" don't even know this forum exists. Also , y'all saying you know better than a PC website and saying it's true cuz we say it is..is being full of yourself but I guess that's part for the course in the PC MaStEr RaCE crowd.

That's a bottleneck calculator
Scrap the cooler completely, the ryzen comes with a cooler and if your not overclocking heavy you won't need anything more and put that money to a rx 580. Stick with a zen 2 series (newest mattisse). Like a ryzen 3 3300g for $90 on Newegg.
Don't get older CPUs it's not a value buy if it's just cheap for cheap sakes.
P.s. your gonna want more storage..either get a smaller nvme for boot drive (250) and a hdd or another ssd. Games are fucking ridiculously big nowadays.
If you don't plan on upgrading past your current setup then get a good b450 board. I don't think your gonna overclock or really need pci gen 4 since there really isn't anything to utilize it and those would be the reasons to get a b550 outside of being able to upgrade to a 5 series CPU. Save $50 and put it towards 3600 mhz ram.
Ryzen 5 3600
asRock B450 pro
Oloy Warhawk 2x8 3200mhz
RX 580 OC

Diypc-j180w
Build is for my daughters. Got a 580 only because of price to performance. I got it after rebate for $135 I can't beat that. But down the line all I gotta upgrade is the gpu. Just under $700 USD.
