Locklin got a reaction from Moonzy in Active or Semi-Passive fans?
Thanks for your help I appreciate it,
looking at msi afterburner and seeing it idle at 45 celcius on semi-passive rather than <35 celcius with active just bothers me alot cause i was always under the impression that cooler was better, but im guessing this temperature difference wont damage my card over time?

if you mean like a 0db fan stop mode, yeah those are a great idea to set up. with my old 1080ti ftw3 it idled at <35C passive, 40-45C in normal 2d usage, and i think i had fans come on around 50-55C. unless you have absolutely terrible airflow in your case it should dissipate plenty of heat passively to not spin up the fans randomly when youre just doing 2d stuff.

depends on things, i have a thread in my signature discussing it
tl;dr, some refresh rate cause gpu to idle at higher power state, causing it to heat up more than it should and the fans will occasinally spin up
if it's at the lower idle power state, it'll idle without fan ever needing to spin (verified this myself), assuming your case airflow isnt bad

i recommend leaving it to do whatever it wants, semi-passive is fine, idling at 50c is fine, load temps are what matters.

The Fractal fans are quite good imo, and the max RPM isn't that important unless you intend to run them maxed out. I tend to keep my fan at a max of around 1000RPM for reduced noise.

If you do end up getting more fans, the configuration that @Stahlmann98 suggested would do well. But again, the RPM is not the only factor. A lower RPM airflow optimized fan (A case fan) can push as much or more air vs a high RPM pressure optimized fan (a radiator fan).

Run the radiator fans at "fixed percentage", look for the RPM and then match the RPM with fixed speed in your BIOS for the other fans plugged into your mobo.

With what you have on hand, I would do the 240 Rad exhausting out the top rear. 1x 140mm in the back, 2x 140mm in the front. That should provide the closest to balanced airflow. You might set the rear exhaust fan to spin a little slower than the front ones to ensure slight positive pressure.

I love my setup because I have 3X 140mm blowing through rads in, and 3X 140mm blowing through Rads out. ~balance~. Blew smoke through it once and it was a beautiful sight.

I'd go for 3x 120mm front as intake, 1x 120mm back as exhaust, and 1x 120mm top back as exhaust. Run all at the same speed for slightly positive pressure and less dust. I'd not suggest to fill up the 2 top fan Mounts to the front because they will suck out cold air before it gets to cool anything. I'd put the 240mm radiatior behind the top 2 front fans.

well..  i have the FD R6. and are running a watercooling loop on it, with these radiators one 240mm in the front, 140mm bottom 360mm in the top and a 120mm in the back.
altho i have an RTX2080ti SLI setup and 9900K now i started with a 8700k..
It depends on what you want to do, try to contain equal static preasure in the rig,
so if you put two 120's in the front, put two 120's in the back..  here that means one in the back and one in the top. if you can manage with Y cables, connect the two back fans to the AIO, then it is easier to keep a steady flow of air through the system and it should enable you to run the fans at lower speeds.. 700-1200 rps. try to use the same brand fans all around. but as long as they are the same rpm it should be ok.

The meshify is a fine case. I meant switch it to exhaust after a caseswap. The cpu will run a little hotter but the gpu will not recieve hot air. Don't worry about dust so much as you say you clean it out often. So just leave the sidepanel off for now.

Are you running with the side panel of right now and seeing better temps?
The H500 is not a great airflow case indeed and swapping to a front meshed case would certainly help. I'd advice to use your radiator as a outlet instead of intake too.

It could also just be hotter in your room as it is summer right now.
