Dirtjelly reacted to xg32 in GIGABYTE 3090 MASTER Capacitor Quality
without a wall of text, after looking this up for hours, i'm leaning toward crappy binning and cheap caps BOTH as the cause of the crashes.
Not 100% of the ampere cards will boost to 2000mhz but they are shipped as such. lowest bin for turing iirc is 1920 but they boosted much lower stock.
Some cards are likely shipped with an unstable "stock setting" that's above the base boost clock.
It's gonna be a shitshow, tell owners to downclock their cards and they'll feel ripped off, better yields take time. Wait for the problems to be resolved.

Don't thank him yet. This is a good explanation of the problem...

The "cheap capacitor" rumor doesn't sound right. It is far more likely that some people have incompatible power supply units or they received a defective unit. The 3090 FE can sap 450 watts; it won't be surprising if the Gigabyte 3090 overclocked one requires more at peak.

Dirtjelly reacted to Mateyyy in 3080 2K res performance
5120x1440 = 7,372,800 pixels
3840x2160 = 8,294,400 pixels
2560x1440 = 3,686,400 pixels
So you're closer to 4K than you are to 1440p. On that note, 2560x1440 or WQHD is not 2K.

Check the link in my signature. If you're using both monitors to render games, you could argue that it's 5K, but it's basically just a marketing term. You aren't going to find benchmarks for a setup that unique.

I feel as if this is another one of those Look i can put a insane budget together pls look and never actually accomplishes anything.
Seems fine, you dont need a 1200W PSU for a 10900k. Also x299 does not work with the 10900k.

Dirtjelly reacted to Cyracus in What parts would be recommended to upgrade for an RTX 3000 card
rtx 3000 is a node shrink, those tend to bring a noteworthy performance increase. Specifics? Unknown until official information.
Your question can be better answered then.
Also you're gonna need to get an entirely new pc 😈

We have no idea what kind of improvements will be made to workloads like blender. Turing was pretty big on that front, improving compatibility with low level APIs and also boosting Cuda performance in workstation uses, but we have yet to see what 3000 series will bring

Mobile versions don't exist anymore. It's a heavily downclocked 2080S

I believe it will be the mobile version unfortunately. Notebookcheck lists it as the 2080 super mobile. The desktop version would be quite the beast to tame with a 250W tdp
