Mondas42 got a reaction from freeagent in That moment when….
…..you put together a new system but then wonder why it’s thermal throttling even at idle. When you investigate you realise you’ve stupidly left the piece of plastic on the heat sink of your new shiny cooler…..to quote Homer Simpson….DOH!!😂

Mondas42 got a reaction from HanZie82 in MSI Z97 Gaming 7 MB not remembering settings
Guys,
just checking that you guys agree with my diagnosis. Just bought a second hand MSI Z97 Gaming 7 with a i7 4790K processor. Problem is the motherboard keeps resetting to default setting when I boot it up. It works fine other than that. I’m thinking the motherboard battery is flat? Am I prob right?

Mondas42 got a reaction from BiG StroOnZ in Second Home PC
My daughter is going to university to study VFX in September and taking her main rig with her (intel i9 9900k, and a RTX 2070j. When she comes home for holidays and the odd weekend she expressed a need for a PC at home as she didn’t want to bring her main rig back and forth. With this I mind I have just built a second Home PC for her and my wife to use. Didn’t want to spend a lot so it’s a relatively modest build.
Specs
Processor - AMD Ryzen 3 3100
Motherboard - ASUS B450 PrimeM-A
GPU - ASUS RX 570 Expedition OC 4Gb - see note
16Gb DDR4 3000Mhz
Silicon Power M.2 Nvme 500Gb
CoolerMaster Master-liquid ML240L v2 AIO
Kolink Void RGB midi tower case
Kolink Modular 500W Gold plus psu
The graphics card was a steal, it was second hand on eBay as faulty. The seller was saying it was showing error 43 in the driver section. I knew this prob meant it had been used for mining so took a chance, got it for £27. Re-flashed the BIOS and all was well and fully functional.
All in all a nice little PC. 3D Mark for FireStrike is 11,200 so not too shabby.

Mondas42 got a reaction from Mholes in RTX 3000 series - buy or wait
I've sold my RX5700XT a little while ago in anticipation of these launches, I'm currently running on a old 1070Ti that's destined for my daughters PC once I've upgraded so I'm in no particular rush. Just don't wanna be stung with price hikes, but I'm hoping that if Big Navi is anywhere decent then it will keep the prices sensible.

Except for the new high end ASUS 3080,3090. These need three 8 pin connectors but plenty of others only need 2x 8 pins.

Mondas42 got a reaction from BTGbullseye in Okay, so...nit-picking a slapped-together promo video or is the 3080 really not faster?
I guess I will wait for more youtube reviews before I make up my mind, either way its gonna be a lot faster than my RX5700XT and cheaper than a 2080TI was so I'm saving my pennies to upgrade.

Take one of the current ones down to a DIY store and they should be able to tell you.

Mondas42 got a reaction from nox_ in Is there a license workaround for microsoft office installation like there is for windows 10 setup?
As far as I know yes. There are quite a few open source office alternatives out there that function well. Just google Microsoft office free alternatives and you will find them. In my experience they work fine for most use. And best of all it’s all fully legal.

Mondas42 got a reaction from FizzFantom in Is 50 °C normal for an 3950x??
Idle on my 3900X is around 45c dependant on ambient so I would say yes that’s fine. Like SavageNeo said, it’s your load temps that matter and they are fine.

Mondas42 got a reaction from steelo in gtx 1650 new or rx 570 used
Personally I'd go for the 570, I had both cards and did some benchmarking with them and the 570 came out on top.
e.g. Tomb Raider (1080p, medium-high settings) 1650 Average was 143.8 and the 570 was 209.5 fps

Mondas42 got a reaction from Newblesse Obblige in GTX 1650 vs RX 570: Efficiency vs Performance?
I know, I was surprised as well. But I did it a few times and that's what i got. They were both tested with a Ryzen 3 3100 and 16mb of RAM, same motherboard as well.

I recently tested both a RX 570 from Asus and a MSI 1650. Got the following 3d Mark results
Time Spy - GTX1650 - 3648, RX570 4030
Fire Strike - GTX1650 - 8332, RX 570 11410

Mondas42 got a reaction from 5GigsOrBust in New AIO. Unimpressed with temps
I had one of these for my Ryzen 9 3900X and like the op I wasn’t impressed with the temps achieved with it. Swapped it for an Air cooler and much better. Not too impressed with the CoolerMaster AIO.

I have the sapphire nitro plus SE card, very fast and very nicely overclocked by the manufacturer. It’s worth it I would say.

Mondas42 got a reaction from sgteaglefort in Third Monitor Detected but displaying black
What happens when you connect the monitor as the only monitor? I.e. can the GPU send a signal to the monitor when it’s connected on its own?
