  1. No idea why I didn't check this already. All drives appear, but not as they should. All the drives are 500gb and have a gpt partition table, except one of them is reporting 1.82TiB and seems to have been reformatted with a dos partition table as well as not reporting the correct model. From this I'm assuming that the drive has broken or been reformatted, or both. Because this is still a raidz array, I should be able to get my data with one missing drive right? how would I go about this?
  2. Over a year ago my home server's boot drives failed and since then I haven't gotten to setting it back up or recovering that data (busy with school). I now finally have some time on my hands and was trying to import the zpool from the old server on a new computer. One of the four drives I had in the zpool seems to have failed, how can I recover the data from this pool? or is it gone? $ sudo zpool import pool: Storage id: 9852532683918131691 state: FAULTED status: The pool was last accessed by another system. action: The pool cannot be imported due to damaged devices or data. The pool may be active on another system, but can be imported using the '-f' flag. see: https://openzfs.github.io/openzfs-docs/msg/ZFS-8000-EY config: Storage FAULTED corrupted data raidz1-0 DEGRADED c0b73961-6484-4bba-937c-17b861467448 ONLINE d9e047e6-efe4-492c-96c1-94912d1c824d ONLINE 8c3fff5f-c9a8-40c8-8e09-fac69e7dff2c UNAVAIL 299a799c-4d57-44c0-ab01-26a4b9699598 ONLINE $ sudo zpool import -fF Storage cannot import 'Storage': I/O error Destroy and re-create the pool from a backup source.
  3. I got my Lenovo Legion 5 just over a year ago and now it won't turn on unless it is plugged in, and whenever I unplug it it powers off. This has already happened once (about 6 months ago) and I sent it back to canada computers to get it fixed. They had to send it to Lenovo to get the main board replaced (I thought it was just a battery issue but apparently not). That took about 2 months, which is time I don't want to have to wait as school starts in a week. I am quite frustrated with this laptop having this issue twice within 6 months, does anyone have suggestions of what to do? I'm planning on taking it to canada computers today or tomorrow to see what they can do.
  4. Thanks for making me realize that I was using the wrong drivers, I was using proprietary nvidia with open-source amd. Switched to the proprietary amd and everything works!

Something is wrong with my driver install I think.
  6. I have just tried to switch to the dgpu in the BIOS and sddm wouldn't start. I think I might just not have the correct drivers, I will look over the arch wiki again and try installing whatever it says there.
  7. A quick search on pc part picker gives this: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/PDsnTW/msi-b550m-pro-vdh-wifi-micro-atx-am4-motherboard-b550m-pro-vdh-wifi
  8. Since posting this almost a year ago I have uninstalled arch and just run windows for most of my school year because it "just works". But now with extra time on my hands over the summer I decided to go full send and do a clean install of just arch linux. I have found that most of my problems listed in my earlier post have been solved through kernel updates(The LTS kernel still doesn't work, but the latest kernel does). I am still faced with one major issue, switchable graphics, I can't get PRIME to work at all as my nvidia gpu won't show up in the nvidia driver settings and using hdmi or usb-c doesn't work due to those being connected directly to the dgpu. I did find this post on reddit from a while ago and they seemed to have the dgpu working but that could also be just that they switched over in the BIOS. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
  9. Yeah, if you don't already know html, using a 3rd party application is the better plan.
  10. I don't know of any programs that can do this, but I don't think that it would be too hard to make a website/app that can do this.
  11. One last thing about an i3, if I go with an newer i3 I have to get ddr4, which is quite a bit more expensive then ddr3. Also I thought you had to have 1thread per vm.
  12. ok, I think going with something I bit better, like an old xeon will give me more room for anything else I may want to test on here maybe a system with one or two X5650s becuase minecraft servers can start to use the cpu a lot if you have enough people on it or just lots of redstone. I haven't used debian or centos much at all, but I'll try them out, thats what is good about having everything in vms I thought more vms = more performance lost. What ssd(s) should I get, and why ssds instead of cheaper hdds?
  13. I dont think an i3 would be powerful enough though. Would it?
  14. hypervisors are just an os that runs vms right? And what os would you recommend I use for the NAS and minecraft server? I've found that arch is good for minecraft servers, but I think having less vms is better right?
  15. I was mainly looking at used servers, new servers are way out of my budget.
  16. Over the past couple of years I've been setting up old computers and trying different linux distros, at one point I setup a NAS, once with TrueNAS and once with arch linux. Now I'm getting rid of most of my old hardware and I want to build a single homelab to use for distro hopping, a NAS, maybe a plex server, a LAN gameserver(minecraft, maybe quake), and a server for testing out multiplayer in the game I'm creating. For the hardware I was thinking a CPU(s) with 12-16 cores, 32-64gb of RAM, and 2-4tb of storage. I might be overestimating what hardware I need or I might need more power hardware, which is why I'm asking here. I don't want to spend more then $600CAD, but if I need too I'll go up too $800. Also, I don't know what os I should use for this, I was thinking either TrueNAS, Arch, or Centos. Thanks in advance.
  17. I guess I wont move them then, it would take a while to do that. Yep, I've done it with steam games before, I hope microsoft or someone else makes something to allow you to do this.
  18. It is a clone of the old drive, but I want to move the apps from the hdd to my new ssd for faster loading times in games and programs.
  19. I just upgraded from a 120gb boot drive to a 1tb boot drive and want to move all the apps I had on my 1tb hdd to my new boot drive, I know if I just move the files windows wont be able to find the apps, would I have to edit PATH or something like that?
  20. From what I've seen googling I think you might be right about it just not working yet.
  21. so I probably should've mentioned that I've read the Wiki pages on all of this and been looking on google for a while. For the brightness issue no one seems to have gotten working without using the nvidia gpu. With bluetooth the problem is that when it's scaning for devices nothing shows up.
  22. this means that you will have to put the ends on the cables your self, what is sold is just the wire, no connectors.
