  1. Hey folks - posted a while ago about some issues I was having with my setup. Ultimately most of them we're fixed with a fresh install of Windows - but it looks like I am one of the many users experience the blackout with my AMD 5700 XT. The black screen issue happens regardless if I'm playing a AAA title like Warzone with FPS locked to 60fps @ 1080p or LoL. Here are a few things that have added some stability to my setup, but definitely don't feel like I'm out of the BlackSOD phase yet. 1) Fresh install of AMD video drivers, I had done the DDU method previously but just used the AMD standard factory reset feature 2) After some sleuthing I noticed a BIOS update for my ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Hero, the log lite but essentially just said "stability issues" are resolved so I gave it a whirl. 3) Reconfigured Cooling: I have a Corsair Carbide 275 and decided to mount my H100i on the top of the case and install two 140mm fans on the front of the case - based on the case design these actually sit in a way that sandwiches airflow on top and below the card. The higher fan will move air straight from the front of the case, over the RAM, back of the video card, CPU water block and to a 120mm exhaust fan. The bottom fan pulls just above the white bracket holding the PSU and HDD rack - 50% of the air flow will blow directly in the path of the fans, while the rest moves through the hard drive rack and towards the back of the PSU. 4) I adjusted the standard fan curve to always have the GPU fans on. This has kept temps reasonable while gaming, I've rarely seen the "GPU Current Temp" rise above 70 and the Junction Temp is usually inline which hasn't been the case prior to these changes. The case is also surprisingly quiet under load with CPU temps staying between 45 - 60 from idle to gaming (depending on core clock - OC on the CPU is off, but ram is running @ 3200mhz) Now one issue I noticed is it looks like the metal back plate on the GPU is warped or warping. I never noticed this when I installed the card and I took a really good look at it before throwing it into the system. I'm not too familiar with any caps under this part of the card that could cause this but I am a bit worried about it. Anyone else having these issues? Cheers,
  2. Starting to have similar issues and I upgraded from an AMD 7950 so you could imagine my disappointment. System will lock up mid-game (experienced it quite a bit playing Warzone and even League of Legends) and I'm having issues coming in and out of sleep mode. I am on a bit of a "dated" motherboard on the x370 chipset (ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Hero) --but if I was still within the return window I would send the card back. Hold off for now or buy a 2070.
  3. Update - SOLVED... Ran the Win10 May 2020 update and cleared CMOS. Looks to be back up and normal again.
  4. yeah, maybe. I don't see how the Sleep issue would be caused by the AMD driver or anything else - this was not an issue prior to installing the new card. I'm going to keep digging into it.
  5. [bInitDriver] path = C:\WINDOWS\temp [bInitDriver] GetCurrentDirectory = C:\Program Files\CPUID\CPU-Z [bInitDriver] GetModuleFileName = C:\Program Files\CPUID\CPU-Z\cpuz.exe [vGetOSVersion] m_iOSVersion = 2 (10.0), SHA2 = 1 [vGetOSVersion] IsAMD64=0, IsIA64=0, IsAlpha=0, IsARM=0, SHA2=1 [bInitDriver] Extract dir = C:\WINDOWS\temp\cpuz149\ [bInitDriver] m_szPath_2=C:\WINDOWS\temp\cpuz149\, m_szFilename=cpuz149_x64.sys [bLockDriverHandle] WaitForSingleObject=258 [bInitDriver] bInitDriver returned 258 [vCloseDriver] WaitForSingleObject error = 258 [vCloseDriver] CloseHandle(mutex) = 1 Looks like CPU-Z keeps crashing too, so might just do a full wipe.
  6. I agree with the sentiment, most used ThinkPads, Dells, etc could be coming off lease or as some other folks pointed out are being refurb'd by the manufacture. My old man pretty much only buys refurb laptops for personal use now and has no issues with it, but to be fair his usage is not typical...like, I don't think he watches Youtube, Netflix, etc.
  7. Folks, Recently upgraded to an ROG 5700xt from ASUS, overall its working great but I had notice a few issues before/after installing the card - I was a bit lazy so I used the Windows repair tool to wipe the OS and reinstall but a few issues persist. These bugs in Windows are minor headaches but I feel like I'm not getting the regular performance I'm used to. Let me preface this by saying I wanted to upgrade my PSU - it's an older thermaltake 750watt bronze PSU I used in a mining rig (non-stop for six months) before running it on an AM3 board as a gaming tower (fair use) for about 3 - 4 years before using it on this primary build. The fan has gone a bit wonky and gets loud before I can't hear it any more, TBH I have no idea if it's still working (this is relevant for issue #2)...sooooo I opted for the Corsair RMX White Series (2018), RM850x, 850 Watt as a replacement. THE ISSUES: Wifi disconnects when coming back from sleep / will say it's connected to the network but in reality it isn't - the card is an ASUS PCE-AC68 (with latest driver installed) I started cranking video settings to high/max/ultra when I threw the 5700xt. I haven't noticed any issues except in more recent DX12 games like BF5 or COD:War Zone - after about twenty minutes of game play the graphics will start to studder. I noticed a similar issue in League of Legends, but the system corrected itself quickly. Temperatures seem to be inline and fan speed/tuning is all on default (no OC) Sleep Mode - this has been odd. I usually quit a few apps that I don't want to come back online when I put my computer to sleep, but when I do I've noticed that the system will go through the steps, screen will go blank but then my fans will start cycling through their max settings and my RGB on the Corsair Hydro. As a total aside: the RGB on the Crosshair VI and H100i keep changing colours ever so slightly / not remembering the config I updated the BIOS recently to the latest version, I eventually want to grab the Ryzen 9 and throw it in this system. And is it just me or does most of the software from some of these companies (Corsair, ASUS) kind of suck?
  8. yeah, their just not very good for OBS. If you can afford it try to pair with at min. something on the Zen 2 platform, like a 3100 or better yet a Ryzen 5 3600..for the video card I'd do at min. a Radeon RX 560 or GTX 1650.
  9. FYI stock levels are awful so it's been difficult to find the right parts across most major retailers (Amazon, CC, Newegg, etc) - unless you plan on throwing in a ton of additional drives @Var_is right.
  10. Agreed, but also context...what system is it going into?
