  1. So at the moment, I'm using the stock Lian Li Lancool II Mesh RGB (has 3 stock intake fans on the front, no exhaust), and I'm looking to get some fans to mount to the top and back as exhausts. The version with 2 x 140mm intake and 1 x 120mm exhaust was out of stock. What I'm looking to get is 2 or more fans to use as exhausts, but I don't know what the best fans for value would be. As I do already use RGB fans and I don't want to mismatch too much, I'd prefer them to have ARGB too. I have a budget of MAX £40, but I'd happily take much cheaper options if it is good value. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Considering the new cards have been announced literal hours ago, did you think of e.g. waiting till October and trying to get your hands on a 3070? Same price as the reference 2070 Super yet better performance.

    This.
If you are buying a new GPU, literally wait, spend that same money and get double your performance, OP.

I bought my cards the quarter they released then they got bumped with the Supers and I felt rough. Imagine how you will feel when your new stuff is getting dusted.

thanks for the help guys, I completely forgot and missed the announcement of the new GPUs
if i end up waiting on the GPU, should i wait on getting a new monitor too? i'd still like to get that out of the way

  3. I'm getting a new GPU (either the 2060 super or the 2070 super) and am looking for a new monitor to go along with it. I want to upgrade from my ancient 1080p 60hz TV to a 1440p 120hz OR 144hz monitor, but the market feels so flooded with options and different "features" that makes me feel like whatever decision I'm going to make will be the wrong one, so I want to avoid that. Anyone have any good monitors in mind I could buy without having to go without food for a week? I don't really have a budget, but I'd rather take compromises for a lower priced screen, and just in case a "budget" price makes it easier, I'd say about £400 maximum. Thanks in advance

    On your current PC:

    Settings > Update & Security > Activation

If you have your Microsoft account linked, it should says "Activation: Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account".

    On the new PC:

If you're not reinstalling Windows: check in the same place, if it still says this

If you are reinstalling Windows: during the install it will ask for your Microsoft account, will ask if you changed hardware and then you can check in that same menu again

Okay, thanks for the help, I'm new to everything here so I appreciate it

Link your Microsoft account to the install (this may be done already), once you have finished upgrading, you can use this linked account to keep the Windows license:

If your reinstalling Windows: just log back in with this same Microsoft account

if you are no reinstalling Windows: it will ask you "Did you change hardware?" (or maybe it won't) and you just click yes

Is there a way to check if that has been done properly? I just want to be sure about it before i do anything

  6. So I'm thinking of getting an SSD M.2 drive, and I want to move my OS installation to that drive. Is there a correct way to do this? Every way I've seen to do this just say to copy the whole of the C drive to the new device, but is there a way to move just the OS?

I agree with the current suggestions for the mouse. I think if you want to consider wired mice, the Glorious Model D, the Razer Deathadder v2 and the Logitech G403 are all worth considering. For the mousepad, do you have any preferences? Like speed or control.

I have 0 experience with using mousepads, hence why I'm wanting suggestions. I know nothing about what makes a mousepad "good" or what features to look for, because my whole life I've just gone without using one at all

  8. I'm finally looking to replace my mouse and get my first mouse mat, but I don't know what to get. I have a budget of about £70 - £80 for both. I'd prefer a wireless mouse, and as for the mat, I have pretty much enough space for anything. I really don't care about aesthetics or anything, just trying to get the best out of my money. Any suggestions?

    PCPartPicker Part List
    Type Item Price
    Memory Patriot Viper Steel 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL17 Memory £73.56 @ CCL Computers

      Total £73.56

This for example is pretty much the same price. Even if it's CL17, it'll offer lower latency than the 3200 CL16 kit, but mostly you'd be benefiting from running your CPU's FCLK at a higher speed (1800MHz), which could offer a decent bit more performance compared to running it at 1600MHz.

Especially considering that this costs the same amount, I'd go for it instead.

Alright, I'm just not sure about overclocking anything because I'm going to be running the stock cooler on my CPU and my case fans are good but not the best (they're also the stock fans, I use the Corsair Carbide Spec-03), and my room gets pretty hot quickly. As I said in the post, I'm new to everything here and know next to nothing about overclocking so I'm just wanting to play it safe

Also, I'd get some 3600MHz CL16 memory instead of the 3200MHz.

Would that make much of a difference? With the parts I've chosen, I'm already pushing the budget, and I've heard most people saying it doesn't give too much more performance

  11. Not much to say here other then I am wanting to upgrade my current GTX 1050 TI in the future with these parts along with it:

I might choose to wait for a zen 3 CPU instead depending on when the whole lockdown situation clears up in the UK, as all of my money is currently in euros and I can't convert them at a decent rate so by the time i actually have the money, it might be worth it to just wait instead. Other then that, from what I've gathered these parts are a good choice in terms of features, future proofing and reliability from what I've seen looking around, which is why this is under the GPU topic because I would like to know in advance what to get. But then again, I am new to this so any changes to the current list would be appreciated.

But back to the topic: if i were to get a GPU with those parts, what would be a good choice? Realistically all I'm going to be wanting to do is play games at 60FPS minimum at 1080p (since that's all my monitors support). I think I'd have a budget at about £400 with a bit of wiggle room if it'd be worth it, but cheaper options that'd give me what I'd want would be better, graphics don't matter a whole lot to me. However, the features of RTX are something I've wanted for a while, and I don't want to have to upgrade for a long time after. Any suggestions?

Well then 1050 ti with it's small frame buffer might struggle

What can you go for I'm the future ? Maybe a 3070 or a 80

Depends on your budget and when you will upgrade

I'm not looking to break the bank with a new GPU, as i said before graphics don't really matter so much for me, and if I am going to upgrade it it probably wouldn't be for the rest of the year at least, because it works for what I currently use it for. So I guess a budget for a new GPU in the future would be about £300? If I'm going to upgrade, I might as well make it a useful one.

I think Ryzen 4000 might be delayed so if that is true why not just grab 3000? Also with those sticks of RAM and that mobo I am not amazed at all it struggles... I bet the voltage regulator is overheating and the RAM sticks isn't very fast by modern standards.  😉

Yeah, I've realised that my PC is a little out of date, sometimes it struggles to run the background windows processes. The only reason I chose the CPU I did is because it's not too expensive and it's a huge upgrade from what I currently have; the CPU is the reason I'm having to pretty much upgrade everything anyway
