Hey everybody, thank you all for all the help and ideas. It turns out the CPU was failing and will no longer power on anymore. The original motherboard short must have been caused by the CPU's inability to either regulate it's power intake, or it's ability to properly handle the power in-take it had. This is probably what caused the "Very High Power Usage" warning in Windows task manager when it was put under stress while gaming. So it was CPU failure. I guess it makes sense after about 5 years of gaming and editing that it would start having some problems. I wanted to make sure to update my post with what I found in case anyone else has similar problems, they'll know what I ran into. Thanks everybody for the help, I really appreciate it!

I think that may be the problem, but I'm not quite sure. The processor passes the Intel diagnostics test, and it can run benchmarks, so I was thinking it could be some-type of setting or software issue. I will definitely stay on the issue and if I find a solution I will make sure to post about it to help other people that might run into a similar problem.

I read a bunch of articles complaining about the looks; many people actually think it's their worst design, but I have to completely disagree. I'm loving the metal shroud and modern fin look it has. As long as it's metal and not plastic around it, which I don't think it would be, then I love it.

The one currently in there right now is brand new; It was sitting in a parts storage for a couple months, but it has never been used before and was bought new. It's a Corsair 750W supply. Also nothing is overclocked at all. The Processor runs on it's XMP profile, but that's all.

I would give you this recommendation: If you want to upgrade your computer, I always recommend that you look at all the parts you want, and see if you want to upgrade more than just the GPU itself, and then find the best prices on everything you want. If you really just want a new GPU, then you can absolutely find an affordable upgrade, look for price matching, ebay, check out all the stores etc etc. But, I think if you want faster editing and the ability to render more smoothly, or to use more programs (like Unreal, Adobe, Davinci, etc), then I would consider building a new PC with a new processor. You can find a new mobo, AMD processor, and GPU for pretty cheap nowadays, and I'm sure you'll see a huge performance raise across the board. The key is to take the time to find the right parts, to know exactly what you want/what you looking for, and go into it getting the best prices. Depending on your budget I think building a new PC will give you a ton more performance than just a new graphics card. Let me know if I can be of any assistance!

Hey Everybody, About a month ago my brother told me that the computer he uses primarily for gaming was having some-type of CPU usage problem; when he launched a game it would go to 100% usage and would say "Very High Power Usage" in Task Manager. Not long after this random problem started, the motherboard had a burning smell, and the board completely failed. I obtained a new power supply, ordered a new board, and put the computer back together again just yesterday. Here's the problem: every time I launch a game the CPU usage gets really high, usually 100%, then hoovers around 60-70%- But the real problem is that power supply fans ramp up to about 100%, and task manager says "Very High Power Usage" for the game, and after just a few rounds the computer automatically, and without warning, restarts itself. It doesn't matter what game I'm opening. I believe it has to be restarting itself because the power demands are far too high for the computer to withstand, and this problem is probably what shorted the last board out. I am not running any new equipment (except the replacement board and new PSU). Any ideas as to what is causing this odd high power usage problem only when gaming? I inluded a photo of temps and the power usage demand from task manager below too. Thank you very much in advance for the help! I also don't believe the PSU is under anytype of power strain. We used to have 2 gpu's in here, but I removed one just to reduce power draw and it is still having the problem. Is there a good download to see PC power usage myself just to make sure that's true?
