Ok, The reason I want to upgrade is that I do a lot of heavy moding with Bethesda games and I am currently struggling to hit 40 fps in those titles. U think I would be able to hit 60 fps?

I'm upgrading my build from an rx 580, and I was wondering if getting a 1080 8g second hand for 350 dollars (This is all due to the scalping of the 3000 series cards) is a good deal. I'm just unsure about how future proof it will be, as well as the performance gain I would get from going back 2 generations. Any help is appreciated :^)

hears to hoping good luck man

the most likely thing to be dead is the mobo or the cpu just because they are directly taking power from the PSU, or GPU depending if it gets power straight from the PSU or through the PCIe slot
-
Very not random, there is a reason it went off that's either due to overheating or age, things break over time and an older power supply with no rating that thing was bound to go, and a old psu is the one thing I can't recommend in a new system, it could have been anything from a capacitor that wasn't in the main circuit or one that was shorting your system.
-
Yeah there is a reason literally every build says never cheap out on the PSU, but I am a server tech and deal with dead PSU's all the time, there is a chance that there are some dead components in system, but the odds of everything being dead is unlikely, there is a very good chance that you could salvage the PC, I just really wouldn't risk using it with the broken PSU (which should never be getting hotter than 60 C in a poorly cooled system), based off your specs I would recommend getting Thermaltake SMART Series SP-650PCBUS 650W which is cheap for what you get as well as having an 80 plus certification
-
yeah I'd say the chances that the whole thing is dead isn't too too high, but I'd keep it off until you have an 80+ certified unit to test it out
-
great I think I know what to upgrade to know thanks for the advice boys, when I'm at it should I go from 16 to 32 gigs
-
thanks, I'll look into getting my system upgrade soon, looking forward to getting better performance
-
also is the performance boost I get from upgrading from a rx 580 to a 2060 or rx 5700xt worth it?
-
also I want to do some streaming, maybe I should go Nvidia for they're encoder
-
so is it worth just getting a rx5700 xt / 2060 now and upgrade my cpu later or just do it all in one bit, and also can I flash my 2000 series mobo to accept 3000 series cpu's
-
maybe I should just OC my Ryzen 1500x to 4+GHz, or buy a Ryzen 7 2700 which in theory have a price drop due to the 3000 series possessors
-
So rn I am rocking a Ryzen 1500x and a RX 580 8g, but I am noticing that I am losing frames in more demanding titles as well as VR not looking very cash money, is it worth upgrading to RTX2060 or a RTX2070, or should I wait for a full new system where I have a new cpu to make sure I am not bottle necking my system
