Wrong, this info about the module compatibility has been around since late march. they just did not research well enough.
They totally should dump more money and test it further, I too want to see closure on this, get the info on how exactly this works.

It shows that Luke also didn't research anything, since the 2019 Mac Pro that has the same SSD setup also requires a DFU restore even when upgrading using the Apple Sold MacPro SSD Upgrade KIT.

I know it is annoying needing to have a 2nd mac to DFU restore it, but again I would rather have the option instead of not being able to do it at all. And again, the macStudio is not advertise as being Consumer Upgradable, so they have that excuse to making the process so complicated. But then again the MacPro is and it requires DFU restore too so I digress.

I'm writing this because for once I've seen this LTT video and it did not sit right with me.

Seems like only surface level research was done on the topic, which resulted in poor execution of the process, many bits of misinformation, which overall resulted in a video with a wrong apple anti-repair biased conclusion.

Before I get into to the actual NAND upgrade part, at 9:30, Alex said that the Recovery environment was removed, which is wrong, the recovery environment still exists, however, you cannot reach it if the machine doesn't "POST", and because of  how the hardware is setup, the machine won't start if there is a hardware problem. you can still access it to reinstall/recover your os.

If Alex were to say that "unfortunately apple didn't made a way for the machine to recover the firmware by itself" it would be otherwise ok. since that is the truth.

Regarding the Upgrade process, in the video they acknowledge that the NAND modules are not full SSDs, which is correct. However the way they tackled the upgrade still was very "PC Centric", Research done by
Hector on twitter implies that the NAND upgrade is possible as long as you use a supported configuration.
The way they did the upgrade would be akin to upgrade a RAM Stick where half of the chips were from one vendor and half were from another.
I have not seen a single YouTuber show a proper upgrade where they for example, get a 1TB m1 Ultra and upgrade it with 2TB using the same configuration as a second m1 Ultra with a 2TB NAND.

I've seen the argument that, "the controller is programable so apple is blocking these SSDs from working", that is an absolute insane thing to say. because despite not being modular, what lives inside the macStudio (or all other modern macs) is an SSD, and an SSD is expected to be assembled the way it was engineered to work, it is not designed to accommodate random combinations of NAND setups, its the exact same way other manufacturers do it, like samsung for example, they would design a Firmware for their 970 nVMEs ssd for example. The board is designed in a way that many storage tiers can be accommodated, however the firmware only accepts the ones samsung designed them to work with.

I expected a better video from LTT, that went into these details and gave up a proper conclusion. They could make the argument that apple could've made their SSD's controller to support more random NAND configuration, which is fine.

But they concluded by saying that apple is Anti-consumer and anti repair, which, in many fronts, I agree with there are countless entries on their backlog to back this up.

However on this instance when they actually made something that is at least repairable, considering NAND is degradable part of the computer, and possibly upgradable despite what they say on their site about it not being upgradable. And even making the tool for it available to the public. Its absolutely crazy for me.

Riley and I have known each other for almost 8 years and we've worked together in some capacity for over half of that time.

He asked to review a graphics card as a total joke. That's not his forte and he's perfectly comfortable with that. Even back at NCIX Tech Tips (as he mentioned on the WAN Show today) he got Ivan's help with a lot of the benchmarking stuff. Big deal.

You also need to understand that he's not some intern who isn't sure about his job security or his skills. Evaluating gaming cards may not be one of them but who cares? That's not what he was hired to do.

Riley was brought in as a specialist for TechLinked.

Something you guys might also not realize is that Riley is perfectly comfortable dishing out his share of trolling off-camera - even if he's not sure where the limits are yet with the live audience.

If LMG was a horrible place to work and anyone actually took me seriously about this stuff, we'd probably have a little more turnover, don't you think? These are very talented people who could get a job tomorrow if they felt like it.

We tease each other, but it's part of having some fun at work instead of being all corporate.

I messaged Riley to tell him people were upset at the way he was treated on the WAN Show and to make sure he was okay and he had to go find the timestamps people were posting to see why he was supposed to be upset.

So it's probably worthwhile to try re-watching with all of that in mind..

The video was originally recorded with a piece of inaccurate information about Siri. The script/editing guidance was updated, but the editor didn't see it and I didn't review today's video, so it wasn't caught.

Wow Linus actually replied to my thread... That's cool. So does this mean the video will be back up, but with that one part fixed? I don't really mind, I was already more or less finished with the video, it was just a strange thing to happen.

it really makes me happy actually, that they went all the way out to take the video down, fix it and the re upload it. its great for a accurate information provider stand point, and also I belive they really wouldn't enjoy being roasted on the youtube comment section about this.

They can't afford anymore YouTube hate at the moment lol.

In all seriousness, they have been quite good at picking up last minute inaccuracies before they reach YouTube (For example the Hyperloop
video). Most likely due to the one week buffer between FPC and YouTube and some FPC feedback.

Nice to see it was caught that quick being a simultaneous release and all! *hats off*

Ena got a reaction from BloodyWaters in Password Managers
To be fair I don't trust most "3rd party" Password Managers, I use both the google chrome built in password manager, that seems safe enough, I also use Apple Keychain, that is synced on all my apple devices, and can generate passwords and they are very secure.

From a developer point of view, it is Very easy to sneak in a way to upload passwords to a remote server without user's consent. If I were you I would do a lot of research on the software you intend to use, also its reputation, if it had issues in the past, because you could use a local password manager, but keeping them all in one local place, its very useless.

    [Update]
It Looks like, The google chrome password safe is synced to your google account, it also has the ability to store credit cards, just like Apple's keychain, which is very neat if I do say so my self.

It would have been a lot easier a year ago.  Flash prices are way up, and you're looking for a near obsolete form of RAM.  This is the cheapest one I could find:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-16GB-DDR3-1600-MHz-PC3-12800-SODIMM-204-pin-Sodimm-Laptop-Memory-RAM-/332146234911?hash=item4d5575561f:g:GdgAAOSwPhdU1Cx7

The seller has good reviews and RAM doesn't normally go bad.
