  1. i can only find intel core laptops on bestbuy. is there anther place you could recommend I look for laptops but not necessarily buy them? @Kaloob
  2. ok. so in conclusion, will my battery last long enough to take notes durring my lecture without having to get plugged into a wall?
  3. ooh. wait but a 100Wh battery wouldnt supply 100 watts for an hour would it? it would be like 25 watts for 4 hours no? oooooooh, or does it depend on how intensely you use the computer
  4. i know this was from a while ago but i didnt see it until now. I honestly thought i would be able to do it and almost bought a GTX 1070 but it was too expensive for its performance. lucky i didnt!
  5. also, @Kaloob you seem like someone who would know of a few places other than best buy to find a laptop, let me in on the secret.
  6. @Kaloob what does B mean, and is intel better than radeon
  7. whattage isnt the same as battery life though is it? different batteries of a given wattage would last different amounts of time right?
  8. i have thought of this but i just figure that, because i wont really be gaming on my battery, i can just turn it to power save mode when its on the batteries power, can't I?
  9. hey guys, I am looking for a new laptop that will get me through college in 2 years and i have a pretty specific set of requirements. first though, I want to ask about resources. the biggest laptop data base i could find was on bestbuy but all my requirements were met with only one laptop. does anyone know of some other good websites to buy or even just find laptops? my budget is upwards of 1500 capped at 3000 but i dont think i need to spend that much to get what i'm looking for. generally i'm looking for something that will age well (wont be horribly outdated in a couple of years) and is fairly portable. I do love my video games, and lastly need it to have a decent battery life and portability. Here are the specs i am shooting for, feel free to criticize them if you think it necessary. Ports: Ethernet, HDMI, 3 USB 3.0, headphone jack, lightning port GPU: RTX 2060 or better with 6-8 gigs VRAM CUP: i honestly have no idea. the more money the better? RAM: 16-32 gigs. (prolly 16) display: 1080p 120-240 Hz (would it be a mistake to go for 4k? i know this would take up more battery and give slower fps and tax the GPU more) These are pretty much my minimum specs meaning that the laptop i would want to buy would probably have all this and a little more, not most of this I'm worried about making the wrong choice. is it reasonably possible for a name brand laptop to have major pitfalls in design? if anyone has any recommendations as to brands or models that are better please lmk. when i look for laptops everything sounds like the ultra super-duper all the time so i have no idea what is good and what is not.
  10. I'm looking for some people to play rocket league with because mi tired of solo queuing. I mostly play 2s because solo queuing in 3s is impossible but id be down for either. im high platnum right now and have discord and all that jazz. im good at rotation so fun to play with
  11. dang, you really think so? the NVIDIA Quadro k4000M has an MXM 3.0 bus interface. doesn't that get me something? NVIDIA made MXM gtx 1070 and 1080s, but i actually feel pain when i think about the fact that a used MXM 1080 is 90% the performance of the new 2060 super but costs 2.5 times as much.

  13. hi, I need a GPU upgrade. let me rephrase that, I REALLY need a GPU upgrade. I am here because im not sure how to. i have done hours of research and have come to realize how much i dont know about technology. if you want the full story and the position i am in, that will be at the end. but for now, i currently have a dell precision m6700 (decent sized laptop) with a Quadro k4000m graphics card and am willing to spend around $400 to upgrade. the reason i am here though, is even with the $400 burning a hole in my pocket, i still cant figure out how. The question i give you, all knowing computer genius person, is A. what is the best way to get more graphics processing power and B. if i were to swap out my existing gpu for a better one, what is the best graphics card money can buy that i can directly swap out for my Quadro k4000m I have been researching 3 paths all of which have mostly fallen flat. 1, directly swap the cards out in my computer. 2 use an eGPU housing with a thunderbolt 3.0 cable, or 3. use a beast and extra pcle port to house an egpu (and even a little bit of 4, take on a project during quarantine and build a whole new computer) problems: 1. i have no idea which gpus i can swap in terms of the port or the physical size. 2. i dont think i have a thunderbolt connector (my computer is from like 2012 ofc) 3. ive herd this basically not possible (but i do have an extra pcle port i think) 4. a) thats a lot of money b) i have a perfectly good laptop already c) its not my laptop its the families and while i would spend money on a new one that i can take to college with me, that isnt for another couple years and (while i am open to criticism on this) am worried that technology will advance so much by that time that it would have been better to save it and wait to buy a computer. however, this is more detail than you need. This all started when I got the idea that I wanted to buy a VR headset and found that everything but the graphics was up to spec.. (Unless I have no other options, i truthfully dont want to go with a quest.) In conclusion, A. what is the best way for me to get better graphics (I am open to hearing non typical-consumer friendly ideas like getting a new motherboard that has a different bus bay) B.what is the best graphics card money can buy that i can directly swap out for my Quadro k4000m C. given the rapidly changing and growing industry, will i be better off saving my money for a couple years
  14. i have a NVIDIA Quadro M4000 in right now
  15. how do i know if my laptop supports mxm? so laptops have proprietary firmware that is built in that cannot change where as a homemade desktop does not? is that closer to correct? you are right i dont understand. thanks for answering me though
  16. how would this be any different from swapping a new graphics card in for the old one inside the laptop? it would have a different chipset name reguardless of wether or not it was in the computer or plugged into a beast no?
  17. yes i meant a better CPU idk why i said that Is the BIOS coded into a computer when it is made? like every computer has a hard coded bios that can be changed but is almost never changed. If i were to build my own desktop would i have to code the BIOS like this? Its not actually harder than building your own computer is it? lastly I am considering 2 options. A. could i learn how to mod a BIOS in under 50 hours? if yes, is there a chance that after all that it still wouldnt work? or B, could i hire someone to mod my BIOS for me. one more thing, If i do go down the rabit hole on this, is there a chance my BIOS could get screwed up in the process? irriversably? I know this is a lot of questions, im just asking whats on my mind. thanks for your time
  18. thanks lol. why does the beast exist if no one can use it
  19. i have a modified Dell Precision M6700 that was given more CPU i think
  20. Hi so i saw Linus's video called "Put a Desktop GPU in a LAPTOP... The CHEAP WAY" and I happen to fall into the "niche within a niche within a niche" and would love if i could figure out how to use a beast to create a ghetto gaming PC from my old laptop. but he kinda just ended the video by saying "yes, but actually no" and I am willing to work and learn how to modify the BIOS to make it work, and am fine with having to restart my computer to make it work, and might even consider buying the shielded chord if i think it will give me better results. where do i start? my GPU price range is $300-500 and while i don't know much about BIOS yet, i'm willing to learn. My immediate question is how do i configure my BIOS to resister the better graphics card of the one in my laptop already? lastly, does any .one think that it would be in the realm of possibility to take apart my laptop and convert it into a desktop? thanks.
