  1. Hey guys, Currently i have a problem where my 4-ish year old build essentially has no signs of life except for what seems to be pulsing power to the front panel USB (flash drive LED was blinking, it usually just stays on). There are a lot of trouble shooting that I have no idea how to properly deduce. Parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cKNWt7 What is working: PSU (Somehow didn't explode, has full power tested with multimeter) PSU cables (Made sure every single one was properly plugged in, w/power) Fans (Spins when using paperclip method on PSU, so it seems that MOBO is still giving fans power?) CMOS battery (Has power) What is (potentially) not working: MOBO (The power button header is completely dead, shorting it doesn't do anything. When the power supply is powered on with the paperclip method, the EZ-Debug states there is a CPU failure) CPU (Potentially dead due to the EZ-Debug, however i don't know if i should trust the EZ-Debug of a MOBO that doesn't want to POST) Unknowns RAM (reseated once) Disc (not exactly related to problem) GPU (Can't test, probably still works) Misc. Info The system had a problem before where it would refuse to power on until letting it "sit" for a bit after power off. The system had a problem where it would seemingly freeze out of nowhere and required a power off. See the first misc. info for what happens after. The CPU was overclocked with msi's smart-oc feature The GPU was overclocked with afterburner, however I cannot correlate anything that involves the GPU right now The power supply was never a newegg unit, i dont know if it is in the recall range but it works perfectly fine. My house is in one piece with no signs of going up in flames......yet. Ez-debug does not have any other lights lit up. What i have tried Checking if PSU has power, it does Reseating RAM Reseating power cables Essentially all the PSU troubleshooting steps Reseating CPU and applying new thermal paste Shorting the power button manually, to no response Plugging in motherboard power, with a paperclip inserted into 24 pin to manually feed power (This is where i got the EZ-Debug lights) My question is whether the MOBO or the CPU is dead, or both idk. The EZ-Debug is something that I find conflicting because the system refuses to POST even when shorting the power button header. And my other question is what I do from here, because getting a z390 in late 2023 seems a bit sketchy (and a bit expensive). However due to my relatives from China coming over, I found a 170 CAD z390 board that should work in theory on taobao.
  2. Recently i have bought a quote on quote "GTX 1050 Ti" on walmart's website (it was actually a third party selling it), and the price was quite low at 100 dollars. So, i bought it (when it was a obvious scam) and i recieved to what looks like a perfectly fine GPU, however it was actually a 500 series gpu with the GF116 chip. It was glitchy and even running ROBLOX (yes, roblox) the textures would get a new shade of color and crash. Then I tried Terraria, it would not even go into the game. Minecraft, it would crash again. I had to use the driver disc instead of a official driver from nvidia due to my PC stuck in a bluescreen loop after installing them. So, i gave up and put the GPU back in its box and went back to using the integrated graphics. A month later walmart gave me a full refund because of covid and let me keep the card. So, i decided to try to get it in a semi working condition and the best way i figured was to try to flash its bios and hopefully it would stop all of the bugs and things. Is this worth it and if it is, which bios do i use? TL;DR, i bought a fake GPU and want to try to restore it with a bios flash, is it worth it and which bios do i use out of the 10 cards that use the GF116? Note: My PC is perfectly up to date and is not a dinosaur. I just built it this year.
  3. I am currently trying to get my hands on a 3060 ti for my build, thing is i dont know what exact time it comes out for Canadian customers. If anybody has an idea on when it will come out, please reply. Thanks
  4. What about the screws that secure the motherboard? Do they come with the case or the motherboard?
  5. Recently, i have been planning a build. One of my biggest questions were if the cables and screws were coming with the parts i am buying. Is this true?
  6. Thanks, but most likely im not going to get a 3070 due to the limited stock here in Canada. Although the 5800X and 5600X might be a option considering there is some stock left here.
  7. Currently using a laptop, so im trying to get something around 1500 dollars right now. Going to buy the majority of the stuff during black friday Budget (including currency): 1500-1700 CAD Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: GTA, Emulation, Minecraft, Genshin Impact, 123D Design and Photoshop Notice: Not using photoshop or 123D design professionally, just as a hobby. I know i only have 500 GBs of storage, and im fine with it (trust me i had to live with less then 250 GBs before). Notice 2: This is a revised version of my other list. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Right now im using a 1080p 75 hz display, and a 4k 60hz for creative uses, i know its not the best, but it will do for now. Im also trying to figure out what to do with the cooling, not really sure what to use so i just picked a cheap tier 6 (from the tier list), if anybody has any other advices please tell me, thank you. 11. So i have been looking around on the internet for compatable motherboards from my not yet bought cpu. Then, i realized that boards with the B450 chipset needs a bios upgrade, which i dont know how to do (and dont have the things to do). Can somebody give me a list of compatable chipsets that i dont have to upgrade the bios to use? Thanks.
  12. Thank you. I originally chose this https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/ZxbCmG/asus-radeon-rx-5500-xt-8-gb-dual-evo-oc-video-card-dual-rx5500xt-o8g-evo which from what i saw had better specs. I will wait until probabaly october so thank ya.
  13. Recently i have been looking for parts for a brand new PC. Turns out all my parts were going to be sourced from the US. I used PCPartPicker and the original price was around 1100$. Turned out to be 1980$ when it was switched to canada. Now, i need to find a good card 300$ that: 1, takes into the price factor of this time period 2. That i can buy during Black Friday or Boxing Day Thank ya.
  14. Games and some 3D modeling. Maybe flight sims and photoshop.
  15. Can you recommend me a CPU then? I only chose that CPU because it was 8 core and has decent specs from what im seeing in that price range.
  16. I dont really understand overclocking that much. I just know that its workable and somewhat risky. Im still sorta new to this so sorry. The only reason i want to overclock is because im right now planning a build that if all goes well, i can use for a couple of years. Right now im stuck with a crappy laptop and a hand me down space saving optiplex. Anyhow, my work in process build is listed here. 19. Right now im planning to build a PC with the budget of 1000CAD. So far, i chose some decent mid range parts and got stuck when i has to choose a fan. Since im planning to use this PC for probabaly over 3-4 years, i want to make sure that i can overclock it. Right now, im not sure what fan i should get considering i have to experience in building PCs and definitly have no experience to pick out a fan that i can rely on. Any suggestions?
  20. So, recently i dug around the house and found a piece of my childhoot, the IPad 1st gen. Anyhow, i plugged it in and it works fine. But, from what im seeing, youtube wont work and i cant install apps that have a older version that allows me to use it. Before, it allowed me to install older version of apps, but now i cant. Heck, i own the apps in the app store and it still wont work. Please help.
  21. Alright, ill go ahead and see if i can manage to find one
  22. ok edit: Cheapest one i found on newegg is 299 so uh...
