I actually went and looked up some test results for 5600X vs 10700F vs 10700K.

I'll present two sites since they happened to pop up near top in search and are well known.

    https://www.techspot.com/review/2135-amd-ryzen-5600x/
Techspot are the written equivalent to Hardware Unboxed. I find it easier to just go straight to the charts without the endless waffling that is in the videos.
    11 game average at 1080p: 5600X faster than 10700k by about 2.5%.

    https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-5-5600x/22.html
Techpowerup tested 10 games at various resolutions. I'll only present 1080p upwards
    1080p: 10700k 3.0% faster, 10700F 3.6% faster than 5600X
    1440p: 10700k 1.4% faster, 10700F 1.9% faster than 5600X
    4k: 10700k 0.7% faster, 10700F 1.0% faster than 5600X

Doesn't make sense to me the F is faster than the k, but I'll let someone else work that one out if they're so motivated. Take away point is that the overall differences between them are slim, and may vary as much depending on the specific game, rest of the system and settings chosen. Given that, I feel having 8 cores would be of benefit in the life of the system.

You can find issues with every board out there, I would go tomahawk over the -F.
But they both have some minor draw backs.
Tomahawk only has 5 usb out back. I personally think that extra 1Gb nic is a waste, and the hdmi port is not 2.1. So if you wanted to relegate this to a little media rig one day it's not ideal.

The Asus doesn't have a usb-c header for cases and yeah seems to have fewer fan headers. Also more expensive.

At the end of the day you need to figure out what features you need. Like wifi6 is really nice to have but don't pay for it if you're just going to cable your pc in anyways.

I had ordered the tomahawk but cancelled it for a b550-E I found for a good deal.

If this was me, I'd go for the i9-10850K route (wow that's a mouthful), but unless you really need the cores and the threads of the i9, I'd just go for the i7 route. Considering your current setup, it'd likely be a bit of a smoother integration into your current setup otherwise.

I'd suggest going the route @handymanshandle provided. It's a rocking choice to pick from and if I wanted a system now, that is the one I'd go for.
We're not really reaching the full bandwidth of PCIe 3.0x16 with newly released graphics cards. At this pace of technological improvements, I don't really see us getting to that point until 2024/2025 if and only if we are able to get a HUGE performance leap in GPU technology.

Intel's Rocketlake should be coming out at the end of Q1 2021, so March 2021.

There is already a minor performance difference today but in a couple years the difference will increase. We were on pcie gen 3 for like 8 years, so not buying a pcie gen 4 motherboard is just not smart. You'll likely be bottlenecked by having pcie 3.0 before being bottlenecked by the actual cpu. Also gen 4 storage could make a big difference when direct storage is a thing.

Imagine taking off the standoffs from the case, and then using those to screw in the motherboard, and getting the angle wrong and ending up cross-threading the standoffs so they don't end up perfectly vertical. Oh and using a motorised drill to screw them in instead of a magnetic screwdriver. This was very triggering.

I suppose only you will know how much productivity type applications you use and their importance. Are you just hobbyist or making living from them, i.e. you can spare waiting an extra 20seconds for something to render vs paying more upfront now?

We assume AMD will drop non x variants of the 5000 series and these will most likely become recommendations over the current 5000x CPU's assuming better price/performance like the current 3600 vs 3600x. But who knows.

Any reason you are not considering the i7 10700k? What price can you get it for? In the US it's only ~$20-30 more than 5600x.

In full disclosure I only game and overclock so I'm considering the i7 10700k, I have a 5600x on order and plan to pair it with a MSI Tomahawk B550; but debating if I should cancel  for the safety net of extra threads. I have a full custom hard tubing water cooling setup for my current intel. So changing to AMD means new mounting bracket and likely new tubes to be bent which makes the cost comparable for me.

I'm a hobbyist. Thanks for recommending the 10700k, just checked it out and it's available for $50 more than Ryzen 5600x, seems like a good option. Will look into it!

Thanks for the descriptive reply! Cleared a lot of my misconceptions about the x570 vs B550 scenario and also made me reconsider 3900x.

175 basically allows you to almost get a better performing ryzen or new intel motherboard + cpu (ryzen 3100 or i3 10100). So no not worth at all. Bonus is that you get to sell the 6400 + board.

Nakedpeanut got a reaction from Kenpachi in Which CPU should I go with?
    I've been considering a CPU/mobo upgrade quite a bit lately coming from i5 7600k which is 4c/4t - in hindsight I should have just bought the i7 7700k (4c/8t).
The way I see it; since Ryzen introduced affordable 6c/12t a few years ago, application and game development have really starting making use of it, and no doubt this trend will only increase into the future. Since your use case includes more than just games I'd highly recommend getting more cores/threads than what the 5600x offers.

Both LGA1200 and AM4 are likely dead after 2021, as DDR5 systems should be release in 2022. So buying now, I'd focus on getting 18-24t as that would be the best future proofing you can do.

    Looking at your options:
I would opt for the Intel i7 10850k assuming you'll OC it (no point in getting Intel i7 10900k really but it's not that much more expensive so up to you).
    - These beat out the 3900x due to their IPC and the core/thread count should be sufficient until your next upgrade.
    - You have the 11th gen chips releasing in a couple months which look hot but promising performance wise, however they seem to be core limited, so although you at least have an upgrade option on LGA 1200, I highly doubt you would.

Your AMD parts however seem very overpriced, at least ~$150 more than what you should be paying and I'm not convinced AM4 will support any more CPU's beyond the 5000 series.
The 5900x would be your best future proofing, but at >$700 It's hard to recommend over intel.

fair. But maybe you should supplement with some more photos, at the moment I understood that you removed the metal mesh, cut out the plastic frame, and just put the demi-filter in place. The side on photo of the system doesn't really add much in terms of showing off your mod

Not saying they can't use it, but to my mind a 1070 isn't really a DX12 card... that may be the best you'll get, for now but holding off for Big Navi & RTX 3xxx is advisable, even if it results in less expensive 2xxx units.

If you really are itching for an upgrade, then maybe a 3600 or X/XT + B550 or X570 board now will be a good buy; in that you can sell the 3600 for Zen 3 later in the year or 2021 and pick up a new GPU in September/October?

You won't see any performance boost with 3 rads over 2 on a single GPU and CPU. It will also make you runs much harder and IMO looks much uglier. I would probably look at the likes of Hardware Labs for radiators, especially if you want to run fans at low speed for silent operation. If you want a D5 over a DDC, you're limited to either a front mounted distro, getting one from Radikult or building your own. 16/12mm hard tubing is the widest you can routinely get fittings for. If by "the best", you mean "the highest performance come what may, but also super nice aesthetics", then you would probably want:
2x EKWB XE360s (the one at the top will be a VERY tight fit though) EKWB front distro plate, or a D5 pump/res combo with fan mounts Watercool Heatkiller IV CPU block Watercool Heatkiller GPU block 3 fans intaking on the side

Even if it's CL17, it'll offer lower latency than the 3200 CL16 kit, but mostly you'd be benefiting from running your CPU's FCLK at a higher speed (1800MHz), which could offer a decent bit more performance compared to running it at 1600MHz.
Especially considering that this costs the same amount, I'd go for it instead.

I too upgraded to 1Gbps and wanted full speed from the office (which I do get  - well very very close to it)
I bought this 2 pack set - Asus AX6100 Triband https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/AiMesh-AX6100-WiFi-System-RT-AX92U-2-Pack/ for $399 as I needed to connect the office (multiple PC's) to the lounge (where the fiber connects) via WIFI 6 backhaul and the triband is definitely required for this approach. I tried with 2 x Asus AX3000's dual band but the office node kept going offline.
