  1. One of my favorite features of my current motherboard - MSI Z97M-G43 - is it sets the initial resolution during boot to 1920x1080 (the max my monitor can achieve), and it doesn't change it when entering the BIOS (F2/Delete button) or continuing the boot process. My bootloader GRUB continues at 1920x1080, and then either Linux or Windows boot, both at 1920x1080, without a single flicker, starting in text mode (Linux) or the usual loading screen (Windows), and ending in the visual mode. MSI Z97M-G43 is the only Z97 I tested that sets the mode correctly to 1920x1080 when computer turns on. Gigabyte GA-Z97N-WIFI, Gigabyte Z97M-D3H, ASRock Z97M Pro4 and Asus Maximus VII Impact don't do that. This is a feature I'd like to keep when upgrading my Z97-based 4790K build to Z490 and 10900K. Z490 board owners: can you please share your experience with mode setting? How does your Z490 board behave? What is the resolution during POST? (When you see "Press F2 to enter setup") What is the resolution in the the BIOS? (F2/Delete) Does the monitor go black for a while to change the mode before seeing it? What is the resolution in your bootloader? (Most Windows won't see that unless they execute bcdedit /set {bootmgr} displaybootmeny yes and bcdedit /set {bootmgr} timeout 15) Does the monitor go black for a while to change the mode before seeing it? What is the resolution on your OS loading screen? (For Windows users, this screen specifically) Does the monitor go black for a while to change the mode before seeing it? When reporting, please include: Your motherboard model. Your graphics card (or if you use the IGPU). Only if you know it, whether you boot from legacy MBR or GPT EFI. Thank you! (P.S. I'm not asking for a build help. Please don't make suggestions on motherboard choices or OS configuration. All I'm looking for is answers / data points about this particular behavior on the latest Z490 motherboards. Thanks.)
