  1. You can use "Resource Hacker" to change an app icon. This program makes it easier than manually extracting and modifying the .exe file. If it's a modern app, I am not aware of a solution.
  2. Ever known of a patch called UXTheme Patcher? There are various skins you can apply to Windows after installing it. But before you proceed to the installation, You'd better create a restore point from System restore and backup your files. Sometimes it brings issues, especially with Windows explorer. Other times it might not be compatible with newer versions of Windows 10 as Windows has been changing a lot. You can find skins on DeviantArt.
  3. To answer this question, another question should be answered first. Does removing support for floppy disk drives bring any security, speed or size benefit to Windows? If yes, Microsoft might probably put it among Optional Windows features and set it disabled by default.
  4. One thing not mentioned here is that You can also try booting into the good old safe mode to determine whether your third-party applications are causing this issue.
  5. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. As far as I know, Windows 7 can be run on Skylake systems without any hassle. With some headaches, this is also true for Kaby Lake and a few Coffee Lake systems. Some manufacturers have provided Windows 7 drivers for a few of 300 series motherboards, e.g., ASUS B365. So I think Coffee Lake is the last generation that potentially but not officially, supports Windows 7. However, it needs some tricks to be up and running. The problem with a virtual machine is that it doesn't have direct access to real drivers (to the best of my knowledge). It uses virtual drivers provided by VMware itself or other VM applications. I don't want to use virtualization either unless there is some workaround to take advantage of native drivers. I'd be happy to be corrected.
  6. Has anyone succeeded in running Windows 7 on a Comet Lake PC? I can't find any 400 series motherboard with Windows 7 drivers. In case you have done that, are all the drivers installed properly and fully functioning? (Please don't ask Why I am interested to do that. I have enough reasons for it.)
  7. Hi! How is everybody? Right now I have a PC with ASUS Z270f board, a GTX 1050 Ti, 32 GB Corsair Vengeance 2400MHz RAM and a dual core CPU, not to mention SSDs and hard drives. I know that spending on a 7700K is not worth it today since Ryzen 3300X exists. However I already have a working motherboard with slow 2400 MHz Ram sticks which are not ideal for a Ryzen build. I normally play CSGo, Dota 2 and some indie games. But I might decide to start playing Red dead redemption 2 and GTA VI at 1080p 72Hz in the near future. So, what do I do? I don't really want the transition to a AM4 motherboard. Do you think I should go for the i5 7500? Thanks
