Hi all,
So when it comes to monitors I am totally out of my depth and I have spent the last 2 weeks reading and looking at spect and videos on monitors and I feel I am still not any the wiser. I am moving from an old PC running 2 22" Viewsonic 1080p monitors and I am looking to jeep the dual monitor setup. My budget is about £800 per monitor. Also I have looked at Ultra Wide monitors, but I have read that a lot of games don't display very well on Ultra Wides and you end up with black borders? So I am reaching out to the moire knowledagble collective for advice.
Firstly what will I be using the monitors for? Monstly Gaming, Playing games like Overwatch, Guild Wars 2, Red Dead 2, Assassins Creed Odesy, etc. Secondly I will be doing some Photo and Video Editing but main purpose is Gaming
Secondly my PC: I will be upgrading it, hence looking for new monitors. I will be going with AMD Zen 3 (probably 3950X). For a video card I was going to go with RTX 3080 (Currently using RTX 2060), but i am waiting to see a comparission between the RTX 3080 and Big Navi before I decide. Other than that it will be 32Gb of RAM and the rest is not important for the monitor decision.
So what have I figured out so far. I think I want to go with either an IPS or a VA pannel display and I can't decide if there will be much difference between 1440p or 4K, also I was trying to hit the 144HZ refersh rate mark. When I started to look I was trying to get between a 27" and a 32" monitor that was 4K at 144HZ, this seemed to be impoissible as most monitors at that size seem to be 1440p. Hence why I ask if there will be much difference between to 2.
What have I narrowed it down to:
ASUS VG27AQ (1440p)
LG 27GN950 (4K)
I know there is a huge price difference in the 2 but I need help here. If there is anything I have missed out that would help please ask. What would you recommend?
