  1. Hi Linus (or his diligent and wonderful assistant),

I am writing to you from the Durian Kingdom of Malaysia...

You reviewed the LG 34WK95U-W about a year and a half ago.
I decided to buy it, but can't find laptops that can handle the beast.

Which current good laptops drive this beast?

I am not a gamer (until next Witcher), nor a video editor, nor a photographer.

Just need to travel and have the real estate to do research and write at the same time when at home.

Considering Dell XPS 13, XPS 15, XPS 17, Precision 5550, 5750, Lenovo Thinkpad....
... but open to your wisdom :)

Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you :)

And thank you for all your entertaining and instructive videos

This would go in the monitors section and afaik Linus doesn’t normally personally do tech support like that.

Sicj questions aren’t generally handled by other users in the community.  It sounds like a handleable question though.

  3. @Den-Fi Thank you very much for the offer. As shared above, I very much appreciate, and very much *need* actual experience on this. I read in various places that only Tiger Lake has Titan Ridge bus that allows DisplayPort 1.4 support necessary to handle this LG beast. Your experience will help Looking forward.
  4. @Aniallation I apologize but I have to say the answer may not be so simple... I cannot say for sure (which is why I ask). But it seems that some Thunderbolt 3 only support only DisplayPort 1.2, which *is not* sufficient for 5120 x 2160. I am not responding so directly to shame you (your answer was very kind), but to help you avoid a mistake if you plan to buy it Thank you for your answer. It is kind to share your thoughts, as I had not had any responses so far. I am worried though, because this screen is a big investment, and returns are very difficult in Malaysia. So I will go with sure thing and not general comments...
  5. Hi What laptop can run the LG 34WK95U-W monitor at a resolution of 5120x2160 with one cable via USB-C with DisplayPort for power and data? It seems not all laptop can, because that very high resolution requires USB-C to DisplayPort 1.4 and discrete graphics. Which one do you recommend for research and writing work (no game, no video editing, no image editing required)?
  6. Hi. Did you end up getting the LG 34WK95U-W?

  7. I am considering so far: - MacBook Pro 16" (but I am not familiar with Macs, and they will have new ARM processors by year-end... seems a poor investment) - Dell new XPS 15 or 17, but it is not clear whether they have Titan Ridge and DisplayPort pushed through the discrete graphics card. - Dell Precision 5550 or 5750, but... same question - Microsoft Surface Book 3, but is it a reasonable choice with the 4 above? ... but open to your ideas... I would also if possible stick to brands with good repair policy when you pay premium warranty (Apple, Microsoft, Dell, Lenovo Thinkpad)... ... but again, open to change my mind on this.
  8. Hi everyone, What laptop can fit my needs and please my wallet? My current cheap cheap cheap Microsoft Surface Go is dying. I plan to get a new laptop and a wide hi-def screen, connected with one cable via USB-C with DisplayPort support for power and data. The LG 34WK95U-W monitor has a resolution of 5120x2160, yum. I do not play games, but I could when they release The Witcher 4 I am not a photographer or video editor, not even a bit. I just do research and writing based on my research. This expansive real estate is solely to have my writing, current source, and other sources side-by-side. But it seems it's not simple, because that high resolution requires DisplayPort 1.4 and discrete graphics. What do you recommend?
