  1. CPU: i9 12900k Gpu: RTX 3090 FE RAM: Corsair dominator 32gb DDR5 Motherboard: asus rog strix z690 E Last night my computer was in sleep mode and I bumped the mouse and it started to turn back on and before I went to bed, I pressed on the power button which forced shut it down. This morning when I tried to power it on, this is happening. PC will not POST https://imgur.com/a/yb9B8m1 I tried to look up the Q code 27 and it said "memory error" Reset CMOS and tried reseating the RAM and now its saying Q code 55 no Ram installed so now its not even recognizing my Ram sticks
  2. Just completed my 12900k + 3090 build yesterday. The cooler im using is the Corsair h150i elite capillix AIO and corsair was nice enough to send me the LGA 1700 screws to mount to the motherboard. First thing I did when I got everything setup was run a userbenchmark test and Userbenchmark is trying to say that Windows is throttling the CPU at 91%. I looked at my power settings and Windows was not throttling at 91%. So I downloaded Cinebench r23 and ran the multi core test and I had HWinfo pulled up in another window. Sure enough the temps when running multi core hovered in the 80s and 90s and occasionally thermal throttled. CPU was drawing around 240 w of power when running this test. I went ahead and unscrewed the radiator and re installed thermal paste and ran the tests again and it was pretty much the same. Temps at idle are normal hovering in the low 20s and into the 30s but when running cinebench, it gets toasty despite using a 360mm AIO. When I ran userbenchmark again, temps were not thermal throttling while running their test so im not sure why it says windows is throttling the CPU. The multi thread score from Cinebench that I got was 26984.
  3. looks like it. Getting 16 cores and no longer on skylake 14 nm. it beats the 5900x and goes neck and neck with the much more expensive 5950x
  4. Im guessing if i do any overclocking, i will definitely draw more juice
  5. Budget (including currency): Country: Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Right now im running a 10700k and 3090 with an EVGA 850 G5 gold power supply and havent really had any issues. I am upgrading my setup to alder lake 12900k. The 12900k and 3090 fe are beefy components. Should I buy a 1000w psu and use that instead of my 850w? I plugged everything into Pc Part picker and it says estimated wattage is 730W but ive heard the 3090 can draw 400 w of power. So im not sure if thats peak wattage or just a baseline.
  6. (18) From Sand to Silicon: The Making of a Microchip | Intel - YouTube stumbled upon this video and the comments cracked me up.
  7. I call this the Behemoth. This case was hard for me to set up. As a result the cable management isn’t where I’d like it to be but I do have it up and running. This is one of the most powerful builds I’ve done. Someone was kind enough to mention that I installed the rear fan backwards so as you can see, I got that fixed. 8. Yeah, I gave into impulse essentially. I did read that ampere gpus are having issues which I think is always something that's possible during the first batch of a tech release. I suspect it is my motherboard but if not, hopefully Nvidia will let me RMA it
  9. Bought one from a scalper on ebay, the 3080 started giving me that issue and I was like screw it the 3090 is coming out, I won't be able to get a gpu at msrp anyway so someone on reddit sent me the link to the 3090 page on launch day and I was able to get one. I get the 3090 and its still giving me that issue. Now I know there's nothing wrong with the 3080.
  10. If I do a motherboard replacement and it still gives me that issue, it has to be from the GPU itself which is baffling because it's brand new.
  11. I have a 3080 also. Tried that in another slot and it did much better but I got some of the static in one frame briefly. I dont know why it would work fine when just using the desktop but in game, when it demands a higher power draw, that's where it has issues. I highly doubt its my PSU because it's an evga 850w psu that is only a couple of months old.
  12. I previously had a 2070 in my build and when I replaced the case, the card got stuck in the slot as I was taking it out. Took me a while before I got it out but I put my 2070 back in there and it worked. It doesn't like these ampere gpus though
  13. I have the FE, Which didnt have those issues.
  14. So i was lucky enough to obtain an RTX 3090. It started to have this issue where when I would play in game, it would have white lines go across the screen. I tried reinstalling drivers, trying a new DP cable, putting in new 8 pin cables, checking my power supply and today I discovered that the plastic piece on the pcie slot was loose and I guess it wasn't going in all the way because normally it clicks when I install a gpu but it didnt click. I did however have it screwed in the case securely. Im not having the white lines issue while on the desktop, just when playing games. Today when fiddling with the card in my system, that plastic piece completely broke off. Today I ordered a new motherboard and tomorrow it should come in and im going to go ahead and do a replacement. Could this pci issue have fried my card? It wouldn't have been working on the desktop if it was fried right?
  15. Recently got a 3080 and a 3090 FE gpu. I have an evga supernova 850W g5 psu that is only about 3 months old and I got it directly from EVGA. For some reason, while playing games I am getting static white lines on the screen intermittently. So I'm having this issue with two GPUs but I should be able to run it since I have an 850W power supply that previously hasn't given me any issues. Whenever I replaced my case, I forgot to flip up the latch on the pcie port and my old 2070 got stuck in the slot and it took me a few minutes to get it out but I plugged it back in and didn't have issues. What I have tried Reinstalling drivers Using a different monitor Using a different psu. What I am about to do Trying a different PciE slot
  16. Of course we're going to have to wait until the 8th to know for sure. AMD has gone leaps and bounds from where it was just 5 years ago, Ryzen processors are great but the one area where it still lags behind intel is gaming. The 10900k at 5.3 ghz with 10 cores is still the fastest gaming cpu. I've heard the reason for zen 2 not being able to be on par with intel in gaming is something along the lines of the cache being separate on the cpu die but I may be wrong. I think if AMD can fix this problem, they may be able to match the 10900k with the ryzen 9 4900x. If they are able to achieve this, I will be really impressed. I currently have a 3900xt and its a great chip, I probably won't upgrade unless it can match intel in gaming performance which doesn't seem impossible.
  17. I first got into computers when I was a kid. My dad would always build them and I would help him out,all I remember is that Radeon was a great graphics card and we would pair that with the pentium 4 that has hyper threading. I know intel had the pentium, pentium II in the 90s and pentium III starting in 1999. Then they came out with the pentium 4 family and after that, for their non budget desktop cpu's they decided to go with core 2 duo and dropped the pentium name and after core 2 duo, they went with core i3,i5 and i7 which is what they still use today. I've always wondered why they never had a pentium 5? They still use the pentium name but I think its only for low end chips used in budget builds.
  18. ive heard most people actually go for the 70 series and the steam hardware survey seems to back that up
  19. You'll definitely be able to max out your monitor's refresh rate in 1440p and if you get 4k 60fps in most demanding games with the settings maxed out, thats a deal at 699. Last gen, I think the people who bought a 2080 ti at 1200 dollars even before the announcment got screwed. Honestly the 2080 ti was a bad deal throughout its lifespan. Sure you got the best of the best when turing came out but it definitely wasn't worth even the msrp of 999.99 and really not worth 1199. This gen, nvidia seems to have gotten better about it. Don't get me wrong, the 2080 ti is a great card but that price is closer to what the RTX titan is than the 2080 and 2080 super's price tag. I just figured If you could afford a 1200 dollar ti or more in the case you bought a custom card, you probably could afford a 2000 Titan.
  20. I thought your standard fps counter will show how much vram the game allocates but not necessarily how much it'll use. Like cod war zone says its allocated 10.5 gb vram but it probably doesn't use that much.
  21. I figure I could switch the settings from ultra or max to high and get better fps with the 3080. That's what I do when I play anyway, ultra for screenshots and high for gaming.
  22. 2 years ago, I built my first pc and this was at the end of the pascal generation. I remember I wanted a 1080 ti so bad but they were all out of stock and were too expensive second hand. When turing came out, I wanted a 2080 ti so bad but I didn't have the money. So I settled on getting a 2070 non super and ive stuck with that ever since. Back in May I did a new build with the idea of having a gaming and streaming system that will last me for a few years. The system is a ryzen 9 3900xt with 32gb of ram. I went ahead and splurged on a 4k monitor because I heard this gen, you should be able to do 4k, better than the 2080 ti. With all of that being said, this time I have my eyes on a high end gpu but im not sure which one would be best for my panel. I dont want to have any problems running new games in 4k for the next few years, do I need the 3090 for that? Or will the 3080 do the job? I know nvidia is marketing the 3090 as a titan replacement and not so much a 2080ti replacement.
  23. I dont understand why Nvidia would make a high end gpu and claim that it can run 4k 60fps with settings maxed out but 10gb vram isn't enough. Doesn't make sense to me.
