I believe game mode was originally made for the first Gen threadripper which would suffer poor performance with games because there was too many jobs optimized for that many cores. Game mode disabled half the cores and some games ran smoother. I don't believe you want it on your 2700x however make sure PBO is on EDIT seems I'm out of the loop and game mode can give you some frames now. I might be wrong
