  1. Thanks for the advise, but I would really appreciate it if you mention your reasonsing behind this recommendation. For example price or compatability with what I have. Keep in mind, down the road I will eventually upgrade CPU and MOBO and when I do so I plan on using the GPU being recommended to me now. appreciate your insight. Thanks.
  2. 1- Motherboard MSI Z97m (micro ATX) 2- CPU i5-4690K water cooled with Corsair H100i 240 mm cooler. 3- RAM 16 GB G.skill Rib-jaws DDR3 2133 MHz. 4- GTX-970. 5- PSU is Cooler Master v750 80+ gold 6- Storage is crucial SSD 446 GB and 1TB 3.5 hard drive. 7- Country: USA
  3. Budget (including currency): 1000 USD (may push it to 1500 USD if well justified) Country: it does not matter. Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games only, I just bought RDR2 and the games does not look good enough, I think it is time for a sensible upgrade to get better looking gameplay and at higher FPS. Other details I have built my first computer back in 2014 (Z97 MOBO, i5 quad core processor, GTX970, I got ultra wide LG monitor (2650x1080p LG monitor). I think I would get the best outcome by upgrading my GPU, but I am no expert and that is why I am here. Please advise me smart people
  4. Alright, there have been a development, thing improved a little and it is not terrible gaming experience anymore, It is not good either but I can live with that. here is what I have done: 1- I overclocked my CPU, managed to push it to 4.5 GHz at 1.31v (from 3.5 Ghz stock) 2- while I am in the bios I noticed my RAM clock speed is 1600 MHz, I was sure it is not what I bought in 2016, took a look at the memory sticks and confirmed that clock speed is 2133 MHz, So I watched a couple of video about that and quickly learned about XMP profiles, enabled that and now my RAM is running at 2133 MHz. cool. 3- I did one more thing. since I am convinced that gaming on 21:9 is too much to ask from my computer, so I went through NVIDIA control panel and changed sittings so that my computer sees my 21:9 monitor as if it was 16:9 (now I have black bars all the time). and GPU scaling override game scaling ... The screen tearing is gone, I barely see it, and I am running games at high video sittings. Given what I have done and the results from that, would you recommend any thing different, I still have 500 USD (may push it to 800) that I wish to spend to have better gaming experience but I do not know what should I spend it on. hint hint; the future of X570 chipset looks promising, how about that?
  5. thanks for your advice, do you still recommend that same after the changes I have done.

  7. hmmm, this is kinda the opposite of all other suggestions, please elaborate more and help me understand your point of view. Are you saying that my motherboard and CPU are the reason I am having bad gaming experience in 1080p not the GTX970? thank you for suggesting something different, I am not tech-savvy and I need to look it this issue from all possible angles.
  8. based on the feedback I received so far, I my choice might be to overclock my existing CPU and buying either RX5700 or RX5700 XT. I really can use some advice here.
  9. 5700XT is around 400 to 450 USD now. I think I can afford it. as for the RTX2070 super, I do not trust team green after the GTX970 debacle. After the VRAM gate (I am one of the victims) anything from nvidia that has the "70" in its name makes me think it is just a neutered "80" card, which does not sit well with me. So for team green, either I buy their top model or not buy from them at all. What can I say, cheating your customers is the worst thing to do.
  10. it is my initial thinking to do so but I do not now if it will work or not, hence this thread. What GPU you have in mind?
  11. Interesting suggestion, do you thing this combination will work fine in a Z97 MOBO? I have a Cooler Master v750 80+ gold PSU. my storage is Crucial SSD 446 GB both installed when I built the system in 2016. thanks.
  12. good suggestion but I am not looking for upgrading everything, I want to upgrade one or two components (most likely GPU). unless you meant to say that upgrading GPU only won't work. thanks.
  13. Budget (including currency): less than 500 USD (may push it further to meet my goal) Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I want a very solid 1080p gaming only. no streaming, no content creation, only gaming) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I want to upgrade my current system, it is not cutting it for my anymore. Most games I play are choppy with unbearable tearing with medium to low sittings. The system I have consist of: 1- Motherboard MSI Z97m (micro ATX) 2- CPU i5-4690K water cooled with Corsair H100i 240 mm cooler. 3- RAM 16 GB G.skill Rib-jaws DDR3 (not sure about memory speed). 4- and the horrible GTX-970. 5- I am not happy with my monitor it is a 21:9 LG unit. I think it ruins performance as there are more pixels to render without real advantage in gaming, also not all games looks good in 21:9 aspect ratio. I may keep it for now but if the price is right may upgrade to 16:9 that have g-sync or free-sync (this item is outside the 500 USD budget) let me hear your suggestions. 6- my PSU is Cooler Master v750 80+ gold 7- my storage is crucial SSD 446 GB. 8- please do not recommend any other peripherals since this is an upgrade not a new system build and I will be mixing new and very old parts to save money, then the most important thing here is compatibility. I was thinking to upgrade the graphics card only but I do not know if that will work with my old motherboard or if it will be bottle-necked by my CPU. At the end, I want to have an outstanding 1080p gaming experience playing any AAA titles.
