  1. @mariushm I have removed the other cable (which connects to 100mbps) still i am getting around 13MB/s transfer speeds. Also I am using ubuntu so I guess don't have to change anything.
  2. Hi Guys, I want achieve 1000mbps speed between my local machines. Here is my setup Machine 1 : Lenovo Y540 (connected via ethernet not wifi), supports 1000mbps. Machine 2 : Old Desktop having i3 3rd, but 2nic available, Inbluilt, from motherboard. This supports max 100mbps. INTEL 9301CT Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter (https://www.multitronic.fi/en/products/10222), this supports 1000mbps. IPs are assigned but the wifi router using dhcp. Network Hardware Details : Wifi router: AC750 Wireless Dual Band Route (https://www.tp-link.com/in/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-c20/), this doesn't support 1000mbps LAN Network switch : TP-Link TL-SG108S 8-Port Desktop Gigabit Ethernet Switch/Hub (https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B07HKSXVN7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), this switch supports 1000mbps. As suggested in this post, I bought a switch and connected it to the router, and then connected both machines to the switch. But now it seems like I am still not achieving 1000mbps speed while tranferring files using scp. When I tranfer files from Machine 1 to Machine 2, both the interfaces are showing similar speeds (~12MB/s). Should the INTEL 9301CT card be able to achieve higher then that ? Atleast > 20MB/s Thanks, Bhargav
  3. I want to purchase a switch to have wired connection for some of my stuff. But I am confused between these 2 switches Tp-link TL-SG108E https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00JKB63D8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A14CZOWI0VEHLG&psc=1 and Tp-link TL-SG108S https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B07HKSXVN7/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A14CZOWI0VEHLG&th=1 Which one should I go for ? My requirements are : Gigabit speed for faster LAN access between devices. Should not throttle under heavy load. Ports more the merrier but considering price 8 ports should be sufficient for now That's it ! If any better option is there, suggestions are welcomed.
  4. Hi all, Current I have a wifi router from tplink AC750 which has a very limit 100mbps LAN speed (reality 12MBps trans speed between machines) Now what should I switch to for better LAN comm and speed ? Switch or Router ?
  5. Hello Everyone, I have a Legion Y540, primarily I use Ubuntu (though I have I installed windows for gaming and entertainment). I have two 1TB storage drives ( 1 Sata ssd and 1 M.2 nvme ssd ) of which 1TB is being shared with windows. I am roughly left with 1TB of storage in my Linux environment. Now my problem is I am running short of storage, so what is my best storage option out there, I know adding larger capacity ssd will solve my problem but those are too expensive. I can buy external hard drives but those slow. Is there any other option which is missed here. (NOTE: my laptop doesn't and thunderbolt port) I would like to hear from you guys if there is(are) any. Thanks
  6. Hi, I am planning to attach a second storage to my Legion Y540. Currently I have one M.2 NVME 1TB SSD and my sata slot is empty. So I am planning to get a secondary sata SSD, which should I get WD green or WD blue ? How much will be the difference in performance between both ? Main use cases: split into 2 partitions, one for windows and other for Linux Compiling Linux Kernel in linux Use as storage in windows Thanks
  7. Is this ram supported since this is cheaper than the Kingston one you mentioned ? https://www.amazon.in/XPG-PC4-21300-SODIMM-Memory-Laptops/dp/B07K3V55X6/ref=sr_1_6?crid=KZMYQHY5WC1Y&dchild=1&keywords=laptop+ram+ddr4+2666mhz&qid=1590258236&sprefix=laptop+ram+ddr4+2666%2Caps%2C266&sr=8-6
  8. Hi, I am using a Lenovo legion y540 15IRHPG0 which came with 8gb ram from samsung. Since my ram usage high running multiple VMs, chrome, building kernels, etc , now I want to upgrade my ram. I am confused whether I should go for a 16gb or 8gb stick. I found out that using ram of different sizes has some drawbacks like not enabling dual channel support. I have selected the following rams for my upgrade XPG ADATA Flame DDR4 8GB : https://www.amazon.in/XPG-PC4-21300-SODIMM-Memory-Laptops/dp/B07K3KJ78Y/ref=sr_1_3?crid=KZMYQHY5WC1Y&dchild=1&keywords=laptop+ram+ddr4+2666mhz&qid=1590258236&sprefix=laptop+ram+ddr4+2666%2Caps%2C266&sr=8-3 XPG Flame 16GB DDR4 : https://www.amazon.in/XPG-PC4-21300-SODIMM-Memory-Laptops/dp/B07K3V55X6/ref=sr_1_6?crid=KZMYQHY5WC1Y&dchild=1&keywords=laptop+ram+ddr4+2666mhz&qid=1590258236&sprefix=laptop+ram+ddr4+2666%2Caps%2C266&sr=8-6 My concern are : 1. will 8gb and 16gb ram be supported properly ? 2. does dual channel really matter that much ? because my ram usages is really very high in my other machine even 32gb is used up completely sometimes . 3. or it is better to have a 8gb+8gb conifg for system stability and having that dual channel speed advantage ?
