    Without looking at pricing, I also think it is probably easier to sell the 9900k and later your 3600, and drop a 5800X into your existing system.
     
    Look up the mobo page on Asus' web site. It should list which bios versions support which CPUs. I think Z390 was released the same time as Coffee Lake refresh CPUs (9th gen) so they should work without getting into a mess of needing to upgrade before using it. For that reason, avoid the Z370 which came out earlier and would have more complications in having a new enough bios.

    Yup.
    Z390 launched with the 9900K. So even the initial BIOS should be compatible.
     
    Edit:
    That said, it's still probably best to sell the 9900K as new in box. You can get a good price for it. Then you can buy a CPU that's compatible with your existing board that is both better and cheaper than the 9900K, and pocket the difference. Like a 5600X.
