  1. Hello everyone, I have just purchased a Lenovo Legion S7 15ACH6. I the past I have possessed a Sony Vaio and a midspec Asus ROG, however, this is my first true gaming laptop. However, I have several questions, dissatisfactions that my previous laptops did better. I am hoping the you can help me sort some of the issues I have, in order to fully enjoy my Legion laptop. Lack of On-screen Display (OSD) information on screen when using hot-keys. On my old laptops, whenever I would press a hot-key, some feedback would show up on screen to tell me the action has been performed. For example, if I disable the touchpad via a hotkey, they would show something on screen (for a few seconds) to tell me that the touchpad has been disabled. My Legion does NONE of this. Isn't it supposed to show something on screen when cycling through power modes (Fn+Q), changing refresh rates (Fn+R), or disabling the touchpad for example? The Fn+R (refresh rate) doesn't even seem to work. No matter if I press it or not, it always shows 165 Hz in the NVIDIA Control Panel. How do I know if it's even working? Keyboard light don't turn of when screen sleeps. This is very annoying. I usually have my laptop on the whole day. However, all my old laptops turned off the keyboard lights when (or even before) the screen turned off. They did this automatically. My Legion leaves the keyboard lights on, no matter if the screen is off. I have tried with iCUE installed and uninstalled, but the same result. Also, is iCUE the only software to control the keyboard lights? I have installed Lenovo Vantage, however I have absolutely no section related to RGB (even though some tutorials state that I should). Fans run constantly. Even in Quiet Mode, even when the processor usage is at 2%, the processor (AMD Ryzen 4800H) is at 45°C and the fans are constantly spinning. Even if I leave the machine alone for a couple of hours, then never fully stop. Meanwhile, my ASUS ROG is sitting next to me, completely quiet, and it has the CPU at 27%. Even now, this is my only application with one tab open, and the fans are still blowing. It's driving me insane. Laptop still sleeps, even though it's set to Never sleep. I have set up the Windows Power Plan, to Never Sleep, when plugged in. However, it still seems to sleep about 4-5 hours, even though the machine is plugged in. I have Lenovo Vantage installed, the latest version and iCUE for the keyboard RGB. I am running Windows 11, with all current updates. I have installed all the software drivers and control software from the Lenovo support page. Am I missing something? It honestly seems to me because of the lack of OSD (1) and the lack of customization for the RGB in Vantage (2) that I may be missing some software. Also, did I miss any additional settings? (I don't think so but who konws). Thank you in advance for any useful tips! Have a nice day! Ray
  2. OK guys, Just to clarify, think second world country, where there is no "IT department" and it's more of a "you're the professor, you're in charge of this laboratory/classroom" so you do not only get to teach, but you also get to be your own IT staff, do your own maintenance on the machines and software installs. None of the PCs are locked down (I mean, they are, but by me). I'd just like to block the mainstream stuff: Facebook, GMail, Yahoo Mail, WhatsApp and a few others. That should to the trick for a 2 hour long test, without them actually poking around the system to find a way to disable it. I will talk to the communications department, which provides the Internet infrascructure, maybe they could filter some of the content, or provide me with some logs. Thanks!
  3. Hi all, So here's the deal, and hope I won't get too much hate for this. I am looking for a software that can be easily configured to block certain websites in a PC laboratory environment. Short backstory: I want to have the Internet on and available during normal classes. However, during tests, students cheat. By their own admission. And they don't even do it because the test is too hard, they admitedly just do it for the thrills of "fooling the system". This is not to their best advantage. I also do not want to cut all Internet access during tests as this would be absurd. Being a programming test, they should be able to look for and find solutions on the Internet, just like in the real world. However, I would like to block social network and instant messaging apps where they can quickly exchange files and answers. I am aware of the hosts file solution, I have even written a batch file which automatically adds entries to it, however this does not seem to always work for some sites (it blocks Facebook, for example, but GMail somehow still gets through). So I am looking maybe for a firewall type solution which could be easily enabled/disabled and would do the trick. I'd like to add that I'm not trying to be mean: the blocking request also came from several students who feel disturbed by the cheating attitude of some of their colleagues. Thank you all in advance!
