  1. Yes they are rendering applications. Renderman is the renderer Pixar uses and Arnold is used by Sony and Double Negative studios I think. Mantra is the native renderer inside of Houdini. They are similar to Cycles in Blender but can handle more information and are industry standard.
  2. Greetings All, I am an animation and visual effect professional in need of a new mobile work station. My Lenovo Y-70 finally kicked the bucket after 6 years of steady abuse. I do not play video games, so it is hard to find opinions for what I would need in a system. The work I do on my laptop consists of character and environment modeling, look development for textures and shaders, rendering with Renderman, Arnold, and Houdini's mantra, as well as various types of simulations such as rigid body, cloth, fat, hair, particles, and fluids. My question is this; is it worth the money for the Quadro RTX series of graphics cards for this type of work. I have found a Lenovo p53 at my local computer center with a Quadro T1000, for a good price, but I am concerned that I am missing something. The question I am asking myself is if I am not developing games that need real-time raytracing, do I NEED the tensor cores and RTX technology? I have attached a photo of the spec sheet.
