Helpful Tech Witch reacted to Jonathon_B in Sorry for the brief outage
Sorry for the forum being down. As we were preparing a host for update and running migrations, the host locked up. The host in the cluster is now restarted and working again and was just a matter of very poor timing for a failure.

it wouldnt. You need to physically switch what motherboard port the hdd uses

Just a guess here:
Often, the M.2 port shares its internal sata connection with sata 0/1
Your hdd is probably in that port and thus insnt visible as the m.2 diabled those ports

Helpful Tech Witch got a reaction from Tideroo in Stop Calling these “Chromebooks”
yea. You can run other linux or windows, but that involves a uefi replacement and a bootloader unlock, usually removing a screw. Thatll probably void any warranty

Helpful Tech Witch got a reaction from HenrySalayne in APUs anyone? Ryzen 8000G Zen 4 APUs to launch January 31st with the 8700G competing with the desktop GTX 1650 in games
AMD has no DIY low end options right now, and its not a path that i agree with. Low end DIY parts rarely were the most price effective, but saving 60$ on a cpu can help a lot of people

Helpful Tech Witch got a reaction from filpo in APUs anyone? Ryzen 8000G Zen 4 APUs to launch January 31st with the 8700G competing with the desktop GTX 1650 in games
thats.. my point
amd is ignoring low end.
the 5500 launched at 160$us, which is not really budget, compared to say.. the 3400g for 150 which has an igpu. or a 3200g for 99$
The athlong 3000g launched for 50$ and has since *gone up* to 80$ for an in box cpu and is only 50$ if you get a tray chip.

Helpful Tech Witch got a reaction from Pasi123 in 20% CPU bottleneck
Bottleneck calculators are bullshit
That will work fine, its a good combo.
Your need for a faster cpu/gpu varies per game, some games will push the cpu much harder than the gpu, others vice versa.

Bullshit there is the bottleneck calculator. Dont use them or trust them, that is a good pairing.

All ms controlers work wired on pc, even without batteries in thme. You dont need to get a pc specific controler.

Way to strawman and ignore oodles of rationale as to why this is an issue, and the solution I proposed.
It's not about the fact that OS's aren't supported forever. It's about having no way to install something you paid for. Retro computing is a thing.
