i've had similar weird behavour, but only when my CPU was OC'ed. 
The thing i don't get is, an OC from 3.5 to 3.6GHz causes random crashes as often as my stable (win7) OC at 4.5GHz.
for now i'm running at stock speeds, but i might seen check if an update has fixed the issue, as there's no point in running stock speeds on a 4690k

There's always some people who think every tech reviewer gets paid to do reviews with cool stuff and so on.
Linus simply states that's not what's going on, and if you don't believe that Linus is giving fair reviews, then stop watching them. But he says it in a nice manner. Kudos to Linus for even giving an answer. It must be hard to cope with people who wants to argue against what Linus is doing.

Your CPU won't be a bottleneck, and i do suggest going for a powerful graphics card.
I honestly wouldn't suggest the 970 anymore, but rather the new 390 from AMD.
It's value is better than the 970, and early tests show that amd cards fare better with dx12.

I would personally choose the s340 for a case, and you shouldn't buy a k-series CPU with a H97 board.
Get a z97 board for overclocking, or the locked 4460/4690.

This program lists all items on the harddrive. Just make sure to run it as administrator.
Sometimes people see that they have gigantic page files and such things.

I've actually experienced a lot of random bugs and crashes.
If i OC my CPU above 4GHz i get random BSOD's every 30 min or so. (not even 4.2GHz is working, was at 4.5GHz before with win 7)
I get some BSOD's with the error code Memory_Management
 
Sometimes the start menu is really slow, like it's stuck in some other proces, at other times it's really snappy as it's meant to.
 
All in all it just needs a little more time to squash the last bugs.

I don't regret my 970, at the time it was the best option. And the whole statement of AMD using a buttload of power when compared to Nvidia is just plain wrong. They do use more power, but even in Denmark, where we pay 0.3US$ pr kWh it's not noticeable.

The 390 is the new best price/performance card for 1080p.
I would not have bought the 970 i have now, if the 390 was released when i bought my 970.

This would work perfectly fine, just blow from the opposite direction of the fans on it.

60c is good temps, what you've been seeing earlier might be due to lower ambient temperatures or lesser background load on the CPU.

those are both 250GB versions, right?
Raid 0 is the way to go then.

But not as good as buying it legit, nuff said.

You know you can OC the 4690k right?
But it won't be a bottleneck in games.
For media production you should look into other stronger processors, but for gaming it's a really good processor.

Unpopular opinion incoming:
Don't buy the 960, get the 280x instead.
You get a lot more performance, and you get 3GB of VRAM. (You will not need more than two for 1600x900, but 3GB allows you to upgrade to a 1080p monitor without having the same problems as you have now.)

The 960 is not worth it, but you can't be serious that the 970 is a bad choice. It's price/performance is really good compared to other cards (like the 960 and 980)
