  1. With BBM now cross platform, and iMessage remaining Apple only, it does put Apple in a strange location. Also, BBM offers: Location sharing Direction sharing Voice notes sharing Picture sharing File sharing Appointment sharing App integration PING alerts D and R status Save entire chats Chat history viewing Ability to copy/paste Email chats Group chats Broadcast messages Free international messages Security Data compression Backup/Restore options Bar code scanable PINs Use of PIN or email Personal Status updates Ability to set availability status Music sharing Color customization LED alerts for specific BBM contacts Map sharing Ability to integrate SMS contacts into BBM app Ability to block contacts within app
  2. Beyond that; the message is actually encrypted at the sender and only decrypted at the reciever. There is no record of the message being sent on Blackberry's servers. That's the nature of the system. Also, BBM can also send attachements beyond pictures, such as Excel files, PDF's, etc. You can also do multi-person chats as well, something SMS and WhatsApp can't do. Also pay attention to BBM Channels; it's like a mix of Instagram/Twitter on steroids. Currently in beta for Blackberry's only, but if this gets rolled out to other platforms, Blackberry could have a potential winner.
  3. Straight from Crackberry.com: http://crackberry.com/apparently-ex-apple-ceo-john-sculley-might-make-bid-blackberry To give an idea of who John Sculley is, he's the CEO that famously once got fired Steve Jobs by the board as Steve and John didn't get along due to different management styles. With him at the head of Apple, sales increased from $800 million to $8 billion. He's also very clever marketer, as he once worked for Pepsi and was responsible for introducing the Pepsi Taste Challenge, one of the most cleverist piece of marketing promotion in the 20th century.
  4. Wow, Blackberry, looks like the BBM app is extremely successful. 10 million downloads in the first day. http://www.therecord.com/news-story/4169945-blackberry-bbm-app-downloads-for-iphone-and-android-top-10-million-on-first-day-company-says/ The Globe and Mail also reports that Blackberry is processing new users at a rate of 500,000 an hour, with millions more queued up: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/incredible-demand-for-blackberrys-bbm-service/article15033416/
  5. Hmm.... http://youtu.be/AyenRCJ_4Ww Yeah. Sound very much like our future.
  6. Raise your hand if you think no government doesn't spy on other governments. *No one raises hands* Yeah, I thought so.
  7. When paired with BES, Blackberry data is highly encrypted as it is encrypted at the sender to be decrypted at the reciever. Even Blackberry isn't able to crack encrypted data sent via BES, and they would know the security features the best.
  8. Blackberry's security is top notch. Their OS and phones are built with a ton of high end security features that makes Blackberry the phone of choice for high security requirements.
  9. Possible, but I got a bunch of non-techies in the house, and I'm not always available to troubleshoot or help figure things out. It has to be easy to use.
  10. Depends. Lenovo bought IBM's computer buisness, and Lenovo has managed to grow the former IBM computer unit, while being able to bid and secure contracts on US government buisness.
  11. My TV doesn't have a network connection, so it needs a set top box.
  12. Looking for some advice on getting a media player set up at home. Looking for something that can do Netflix primarily, while also playing local media. My house is already wired up for Gigabit ethernet. I will also be getting and plugging in a wireless keyboard as well. Nothing too fancy is needed beyond that. Looking to keep everything under $150 dollars Canadian. What are your recommendations?
  13. Short answer = No! Long answer = there are solutions available, but are not cost worthy for the performance. You can convert a spare video card into a external video card, but there's a lot of work involved and sourcing unusual parts. Guide below: http://www.techradar.com/us/news/computing-components/graphics-cards/how-to-make-an-external-laptop-graphics-adaptor-915616
  14. A bit of good news for Blackberry, BES 10 and Blackberry 10 gets NATO certification for classified communications up to the level of "Restricted", the first device approved by NATO to this level of of security: From Crackberry.com: http://crackberry.com/blackberry-10-receives-nato-approval-restricted-communications
  15. My keyboard; a Logitech G15, first edition. It's way overdue for replacement, the backlighting is almost dead, and the LCD screen is also dead.
  16. In order: Blackberry Z10 Blackberry Bold 9000 Motorola Razr V3i
  17. Remember, drinking game; one shot of hard liquor every time the stream crashes. Or everytime Linus and Slick mentions EA and Microsoft.
  18. Article from ArsTechnica, showing that the number of Tor users has shot up to about 1.2 million from 600,000. http://arstechnica.com/security/2013/08/tor-usage-doubles-in-under-a-week-and-no-one-knows-why/ Some have made comments that the spike could have been the result of creators of The Pirate Bay releasing the PirateBrowser. But interesting to see a major spike in usage of an anonymity system in just a few weeks.

  22. I use Western Digital RE4's in my computer. I tend to favour enterprise-grade hard drives myself.
