  1. I fixed the problem without reinstalling. More details here:
  2. When I try to open notepad nothing happens other than the loading icon on the mouse. When I open paint or word pad, an error message pops up saying unable to create new document. I tried installing and uninstalling them in the optional features section, but when i reinstall, it says install failed. How would I fix this?
  3. Removing bitdefender worked. They are removing support for it in a few months, so there is no point in reinstalling.
  4. I think this has something to do with bitdefender, so I am going to remove it.
  5. Here is a photo of the devices When I plug in a new device, it pops up a new one here, and uninstalling, and letting it reinstall it does not fix it.
  6. When I plug in any storage device into my computer in my thinkpad T510, for example, a camera, or a USB stick, it doesnt work, and the drive does not show up. In device manager, I see a ! triangle next to something labeled USB mass storage device. In device status, it says Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38) How can I fix this? A temporary fix is to reboot my computer, but that only lasts until a device is unplugged, or sometimes it doesn't work at all. My Mouse, Keyboard, and Bluetooth adapter work fine.
  7. I have a laptop from 2010 that has its ssd from 2010. I am going to replace it with a new ssd. Since my old ssd is sata 2 (3gbps), and the motherboard also supports olny sata 2 (3gbps). Will the sata 3 ssd increase my laptop performance?
  8. Cool, my current ssd uses 60mw when idle. 0.06 W. So will the new one make my battery way less, or just a little bit? My laptop has 80 Watt hours
  9. It says it uses 1W of power when idle. Will my laptop battery be reduced?
  10. I have an intel D3-S4510 datacenter SSD that has more storage than my current SSD. I know it works when I put it in my laptop but will there be any problems if I trade it for my boot drive? My laptop is thinkpad T510 with a 3GBps sata.
  11. What are your specs? And how much free space do you have. When it is acting up, tell me what %memory is used, CPU%, disk write% and cpu speed. Those should be avalable in task manager.
  12. I am using a minnowboard turbot (kind of like a raspberry pi, except its x86_64) When I boot it, the led connected to the gpio pins is normal brightness. After i create the gpio pin by typing echo [pin number] >/sys/class/gpio/export it turns off. This is normal. After I change it to out and changing "value" to 1 by using echo 1 >/sys/class/gpio/gpio[pin-number]/value Then the led is very dim thus representing a lower voltage. I am using ubuntu 20.04. I did the same thing in a previous os (Linux mint), and everything worked as expected. How can i make the led be brighter, and the gpio output the correct voltage?
  13. Try setting a manual ip adress, gateway, and dns
  14. In videos comparing the cpu temperature under load of different thermal pastes, cpu's,etc, Linus uses a software that graphs the temperature over time. What is that software, and where can i get it. If it is not free, is there something similar that is free?
  15. I have an old laptop that i want to reapply thermal paste to. What is better, Arctic mx 2 or 4? I have never applied thermal paste before, so i want whatever one will have a less chance of breaking my system. Are the other thermal pastes i should use?

Most of the customization can be done with command line. I think that if you right click on a photo on unactivated windows, there should be an option that says set as desktop icon.
  18. I have a Thinkpad T510, and the speakers do not work most of the time. Sometimes they do work, and most of the time, they don't. Headphones do work however. As the photo shows, the computer does not think that the headphones are plugged in. I tried reinstalling the driver, and windows troubleshooting, but those did not work.
  19. Im guessing that either DHCP wasnt working on your router, or somone else had the same ip as you. Im glad it worked!
  20. Whats is the difference between mx2 and mx4? Would both work for me?
  21. Go to Control Panel>Network and internet>Network and sharing center>Change adapter settings(its on the side) The right click on your adapter (so probably ethernet) then properties, then Internet protocol version 4. On the popup window click Use the following ip adress, then also use the followind dns server Enter an ip adress just pick somthing that would not be already taken, for example if devices have ips of 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.12 the pick something like 192.168.1.20 Netmask should probably be 255.255.255.0 Gateway should be your router And dns can be 1.1.1.1 and/or 8.8.8.8 after that click apply, and it should work
  22. Many people say that macs don't need antivirus's, and that's true, unless you are visiting sketchy websites, and downloading and installing random programs, and keep in mind some of those bad programs may get passed the antivirus. I would reccomend not having an antivirus because it could slow down your computer, but if you really need one, then either Bitdefender, or Malwarebytes is a good option. They both have scanners that you can use for free
  23. I Have a think pad T510, that is about 10 years old, When it is under heavy cpu usage, it tends to throttle to down to 1.19 ghz after it gets above a certain temperature.Should i reapply thermal paste, if so, what kind/brand, and how do i apply it. Thanks!
