So then I thought to myself, you know it's odd.  With all the vampires everywhere, you'd think someone would have come up with a better way of dealing with all of them.  Like holy water will overpower them, so why not just sanctify every thunderstorm and call it a day?  It's always dark when it rains, and vampires avoid sunlight--so that seems like a good idea.  And then it hit me.  There's vampires in America, Asia and Europe.  But there are no vampires in Africa.  Because someone already blessed the rains down in Africa.

PAPO1990 got a reaction from S.Hamed23 in upgrading ram but going down from 4 sticks to 2 on a quad channel mobo instead of going up to 8 sticks.
I get the feeling that S.Hamed is confusing quad channel with quad slot. Most MoBos have 2 slots for each channel, for memory SPEED it's generally best to only use a single slot from each channel.

I'm also on X99 and when I first built my PC I only had 2 sticks of RAM (for cost reasons) when I finally upgraded to 4 sticks there was a small but noticeable performance improvement in most benchmarks before even activating XMP as my newer RAM was also faster.

it's a hefty chunk of change, but EK makes quality gear and I trust it.

Depending on what is available to you it may be worth looking at different radiators I personally like AlphaCool as they give more inlet/outlet options, which can help for filling and draining. You just need to take some time to flush them out before using them.

There's certainly places you could save money, but I'd 100% stick with EK for the Blocks regardless. Though I'm the last person to talk to about cutting costs on a watercooling loop 😛 (2 x 280mm @45mm thick, a 360mm @ 80mm thick, a bunch of 90 degree fittings monoblock, and 5.25" bay res/ pump combo. Probably more in cooling than most people spend on whole PC's... I think I have a problem, please send help 😛 )

most adequate cooling require some sort of thermal interface to go between the coldplate and your laptop, as metal on metal conduction isnt that great
so it'll be messy when you de-couple
i dont think this is a good idea too, unless you can solve this issue

I've had Mac laptops for well over a decade now... heck my last one lasted me almost a decade alone, as long as it doesn't force me to upgrade to catalina and abandon 32bit apps, I'm quite happy to stay in the eco system, I'm looking to improve the cooling of what I HAVE, not buy a whole new thing. It's generally not a machine I use for gaming anyway, but hey, maybe if I'm going somewhere I REALLY want to, then I could figure out a way to pack the cooling as well, easier than lugging my massive PC.

Well there's also the bonus points for completing work quickly (assuming you are verified for that). For example, a 780 point CPU WU, I'll complete in time to get over 5400 points. Some GPU WU's I can get 170,000 points for on completion.

But when they show the temps at idle they are running close to 0C but if a final product WERE to be able to regulate and stay close to ambient then that would be nice. Also based on the load temps, I doubt it will outperform a big overkill loop at the moment, but there are certainly people willing to spend over $1000 on cooling

I doubt I'll be placing anywhere decent, but has anyone else had issues getting assigned CPU WU's? I had my GPU running fine all night, but after some issues I had my CPU set to run a single WU, in the morning my CPU still hasn't found one...

Haven't folded much since I got my gold badge as the weather had warmed up a little here (and I was doing a bunch of troubleshooting) guess I may just have to run the AC some as it'll be getting real warm for sure by the end of October. Still kind of looking foreword to my first folding even though

PAPO1990 reacted to luckz in [Solved] Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool hangs at 21% 88% 89% 90... on every computer
For people who come from the future and find this:

Extended mode just takes many, many hours. 21%, 88%, 89%, 90% are known points where you can wait forever without seeing any progress - and 21% is the longest of those.
It's not unexpected for the whole test to take, say, eight hours. For three or four it might be stuck at 21%.

Unless Microsoft's Windows Memory Diagnostic is stuck at 21% for an entire day, there's no reason to worry.
