  1. I've recently been wanting to make the switch from windows to linux but im not quite sure how. My plan is to dual boot Windows and Linux, try to use Linux as much as possible, and switch back to Windows when needed. So, I installed Ubuntu alongside Windows boot manager, but I had to go into my BIOS settings to change the controller mode from RST to AHCI for Linux to work. But, if i want to switch back to Windows, I have to change that back. Is there any way to avoid this issue, or do I have to change that BIOS setting every time I want to change OSes. Thanks!
  2. thats unfortunate. I appreciate the honest answer though
  3. Is there a way to compartmentalize the Windows store without them getting access to anything else?
  4. https://imgur.com/HCBYiCZ This is a list of all the C++ stuff I have installed. Would you be able to send a link to any other software prerequisites I need to install. Also I did not see anything related to .net frameworks, so would you be kind enough to send a link to that too?
  5. I recently decided to make a modded version of the Windows 10 iso using the MSMG toolkit, and I removed most microsoft software for privacy reasons. (following this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6XPff38iSc; i removed mostly the same stuff as him but kept some things) The microsoft store is still functional with free software, but for paid games/software (eg: forza horizon 4 which is registered to my microsoft account) i cannot download. i try to sign in, but when i press the add account button, it doesnt work. I also tried opening the windows store in a browser, signing in, then pressing install (which opens up the windows store, but it still does not allow me to download it.) is there a way to sign into the microsoft store while still remaining private from windows? also, logitech g hub does not want to install. this could be a seperate issue, but when I open the installer, it just get stuck on installing, but once i actually open the program, it is unusable.
  6. Budget (including currency): $1500 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I mainly play rocket league, minecraft, and csgo, but I also play plenty of other games. I also do photo and video editing on the side. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MwQZcT this is my parts list right now. I just want to confirm that all these parts are compatible and good for each other, as well as any changes I can make to bring the price down if possible. thank you!
  7. I currently am using a really crappy chinese mouse from wish.com and im definitely due for an upgrade. I've been doing my research on wireless gaming mice and have found the 2 best contenders to be the logitech g305 and the corsair harpoon rgb wireless. I have watched extensive reviews on both mice and am extremely torn on what to get. The keyboard i have is corsair brand and i think the corsair mouse would be a good choice to keep it in the same ecosystem (only have to use 1 software program to control my peripherals), but at the same time, the logitech mouse has significantly better battery life. are there any other things i should consider, and what would be the most logical choice on which mouse to get. Thanks in advance!
  8. I just watched this video and saw how much antiviruses can slow down a computer. I personally use McAfee. Is there a way that I can stay protected without sacrificing speed? Should I just close the program and only open it periodically for scans? Whats the best safe way to keep antiviruses from slowing down a computer? Thanks!
  9. im just looking for any programs no matter what they are for, bc i use my computer for a ton of different things (gaming being the main one) but i just was looking for a list of popular programs that i could just pick from
  10. im simply just looking for important software i dont get what you dont understand lol
  11. im not saying just to optimize windows, im also looking just for quality of life programs that would be especially important on a gaming pc
  12. are there any specific programs to install tho?
  13. Disclaimer: I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right spot, but I'm new to this forum and hopefully I'm doing this right lol. From the few posts I've made in the past, this forum is suuuper helpful and there's so many people that respond. I love it! I just purchased a Legion Y740 15" laptop from Lenovo's website. It has an i7-9750H, RTX 2060, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of HDD storage + 512GB of SSD storage. Up until now I've been gaming on a crappy $400 work laptop from 4 years ago, so I don't really have much experience with gaming computers. I was wondering if someone could walk me through setting it up for the best gaming performance and maybe recommend some software that would be useful other than obviously games/steam/web browser/etc. Like I said, I'm super new to actually having a really good computer and I wanna make sure I make it worth every penny of my money. Thanks in advance for the help!
