I tried 27" 4K and for me it was waaaaay too small. I don't like Windows scaling and at that screen size things become really tiny.

When it comes to choosing a monitor I think it is more important to choose physical size first and virtual size afterwards.
It really comes down to, what can you fit on your desk and at which distance do you sit. And so it makes more sense to either go 32" or 27". Afterwards I would select the resolution, which for me would be 4K at 32" and 1440p at 27".

I had 28" 4k monitors and they always felt to small.
At the time I also used editing programs that did not scale so I had to drop the resolution to see the text.

I upgraded to a 32" 4k monitor and I never had to lower the resolution to see text on programs that don't scale.

I am sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough. I just wanted to know what other 2080ti users are going to do once the 3090 is out in the market. Are they buying or holding off? Just sharing thoughts

    (1.229turbo vcore  - 0.31v offset)

in this menu i had all volts at auto  and 45-46 on the cores

i ran prime 95 with negative avx 2  and 3  when it crashed

if you want, you could still try setting the vccio and sa voltage, and try with one stick at a time and check, if non of those worked, you could try updating the bios.

technically anything over 2933 is not guaranteed.  but the imc should handle it just fine.
updating the bios helps with ram compatibility, and since this is a new platform, a bios update will probably help a lot.

It is not a good time to build a PC.
Some Items are scarce like 2080 tis, i9 10900 ks and PSUs.
I could not even get the 360 AIO I wanted but the one I got is working out.

I lost my passion building PCs years ago and this year I have built or rebuilt 4 of them. All have gone well but in the past I have had to return parts and have had disasters like CPUs, GPUs and motherboards dieing.

The alternative is buying a prebuilt and I have done that too but none were quite right and I have even had to rebuild a prebuilt.
So I will keep building my own.

Most of the anxiety this time was the silicon lottery since I have had underperforming CPUs in the past but so far the i9 10900k is measuring up.

My advice is have more than one computer.
It did not matter how long it took to get a CPU just like it won't matter with the next gen GPUs.
I don't really need them I just want them.

LOD_ismynightmare got a reaction from JabroniBaloney in An advice for fellow PC gamers (display resolution related)
You might be in a rush now spending your money to buy a 2k or 4k monitor to get bedazzled with the new monitor but you might get disappointed. let me share my experience over the past 12 years or so with 1k, 2k, 4k, and 3440x1440 (ultra wide). Some of you can buy monitors without the ability of returning them and asking for refund, so use my advice as a reference.

I gamed mostly on 1080p (1k) as it was the longest gaming period for me. It was about 8 years until games looked not fun anymore and I actually quit gaming at one point in the past. So I decided to buy a 2560x1440 (2k) monitor. When I bought it, I had no idea how gaming on 2k felt like because I never experienced it before or visited computer shops to try them, I only bought it online. I felt that gaming is surely better, but I wasn’t impressed and I felt that this upgrade is not totally worth it. The mistake I did is that I should’ve bought a 4k monitor 3840x2160. This is because there is a big difference between 1k to 4k, but you won’t be impressed that much if you keep jumping to the next resolution.

So I kept gaming on 2k for about 3 years, then this boredom of gaming hit me again, I decided to buy a different monitor this time as I demanded a different experience. It wasn’t a 4k monitor this time as I learned my lesson, it was the ultra wide monitor with 3440x1440 resolution. Now that was a whole new experience. Playing FPS games  (not competitively I don’t recommend that) is really good and playing open world games is absolutely gorgeous. I hated open world games before and now I bought all of the open world games. This resolution will make you love to play open world games. Whether you’re upgrading from 1k, 2k, or even 4k, you will enjoy gaming on 3440x1440 for sure as this resolution finds its niche in many genres: FPS, open world, mmo, mobas, rts, racing, and even action. So you can buy a monitor with this resolution even if you already have another monitor.

So am I gonna buy a 4k monitor? Surely not, not after I gamed on 2k for a while. So what am I gonna buy next then? I watched a video of a game played on 8k resolution and I was stunned! It had more details and things were shinier. My next plan is to buy an 8k monitor and I think you know why I was stunned. Rule of thumb is to go from 1k to 4k and from 2k to 8k.

I thought I’d share this and I try to help others with my experience and spending...

It is technically "OC", but those RAMs have been tested and validated by manufacturer to run at such settings. That´s why it is promoted and saved in X.M.P. profile ... And there is always some headroom as well. You might be able to run said settings on lower voltage, or slightly lower frequency on medium lower voltage = that´s to be tested by you. But you really don´t have to worry about promoted settings ... Keep them, and try them out once the system arrives. 1.5V is completely normal for such high-performance RAM. There is always a chance that combination of "specific CPU + specific chipset + specific BIOS version" will not play nicely with specific RAMs, however that small chance is always there and has nothing to do with that "AMD optimized" sticker on the package ...
If you want to go lower, go for lower .. but there is no reason to do so, other than your preference 😉

Yeah I read that 1.5v is the highest safe voltage, but I don't really think that I will OC my system immediately. It is a new build and I wanna see its stock potential then plan to OC, but lower than 1.5v probably

I am kinda struggling on selling the CPU because I think I need it for another build. I do have the CPU socket cover, putting it back on the motherboard is a bitch though.
