I've had terrible luck with liquid metal as well. I'd highly suggest just a more efficient conventional thermal paste like arctic silver or kryonaut.
Don't liquid metal unless you're like 1000% sure it's going to get you the performance you want. I've honestly had much more luck with an aftermarket cooling pad combined with a side cooler from opolar.
Yes, I know that at a certain point my laptop is going to look ridiculous but I frequently work and game on it while taking it to and from work so if 5 minutes of hooking up cooling to put it in "desktop mode" is what I have to do then that's what I have to do.
I do wish that liquid cooling would hurry up and come to laptops though. I know ASUS made one but the price was so stupidly prohibitive it might as well have been a concept car.
