  1. Howdy! Currently troubleshooting a system that won’t boot. I located the problem down to the RAM. This is a pair of 2x8 DIMMs, using the other DIMM, I could get the system to boot. But, if I put this stick in, either by itself or trying dual channel, the PC would not boot. I took the DIMM out and noticed this: This is the only thing identifying itself as to why the DIMM is failing. Is it even worth attempting to repair this? Considering this is my secondary budget build, I’m not trying to sink a ton of money into the system but still want the 16 gigs. if the sticks need to be replaced, what DDR3 (up to 2400Mhz) DIMM set would you recommend, please include a link. Thank you!
  2. Hello! while troubleshooting booting issues on my ASRock Z97 Pro4 motherboard, I accidentally did this: Do I have any hope of fixing this? I have a second PCIe slot, it’s mainly there for AMD Crossfire but I’m assuming it’s x8 instead of x16, I just bought a new 5700XT, will using that second slot destroy the newly found performance? thanks!
  3. Ordered some ddr3 ram off of amazon, how can I determine if other components are working or not, what are telltale signs of functioning?
  4. Just removed my AIO, the CPU immediately warmed up upon boot attempt. (Never got anywhere dangerous.) Im not sure if that rules it out, but I’m not sure how else to check it. so, how can I rule out my mobo and RAM sticks? I guess I’ll have to go buy some ram sticks to see if they will function correctly in the board
  5. I’m assuming this means that one of my key components has failed, can the GPU be ruled out because the fans are spinning? can the mobo be ruled out because the pump and fans work? im assuming that the PSU can be ruled out also. If I take the AIO off and boot the computer for a second and touch the i5 to see if it’s hot, would that mean that the i5 is working? I’m not sure. It stopped at one point I’m not sure what it was at all. P.S. yes I know my ram is not in DIM.A1 I was trying all of them. also, that loud noise is a ceiling fan.
  6. Hello! I just got my sapphire 5700xt nitro+ in the post today and decided to plug it into my system. System Specs: i5, 4500k ASRock Z97 Pro4 16 gigs DDR3 (previously a GTX 1060 SSC) 550w Bronze 80+ PSU. h510i I uninstalled NVIDIA GPU drivers before shutting down my PC. After installing the sapphire GPU, my PC does this: After “turning on” the PC will sit there, not displaying any output, and eventually do this. Zero output. I tried putting my old GPU in, won’t boot with that either. Did I somehow brick my system? How do I even troubleshoot this I appreciate any help!
  7. Does the sticker still attached to my psu (Illegal, I know) help determine what wattage the PSU would output at 12v? I'm assuming 528W but I have a slight inclination I am wrong. I appreciate the quick response!
  8. Here is the CPU cooler. https://www.amazon.com/Asetek-550LC-Liquid-Cooler-Heatsink/dp/B06XJD98JT/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1184177-REG/xfx_force_p1550sgren_ts_bronze_series_550w.html
  9. I mean i'm not condoning deceitful or wrong behavior, but if you were going to do something, this would be it The superglue may fix it anyway, but be sure that the cap it lined up and you aren't pressing the button down more than once to set it. I'd still tell your father, but the fact that you're posting on here sounds like he wont be ecstatic that you broke his keyboard.
  10. Howdy! I have a 550w 80+ Bronze PSU. Here is my build: PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU Intel Core i5-4590 3.3 GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU Cooler Deepcool CAPTAIN 120EX RGB 76.52 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Motherboard ASRock Z97 PRO4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard Memory ADATA XPG V2 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR3-1866 CL10 Memory Storage Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 60 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $127.99 @ Amazon Storage Toshiba 500 GB 2.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Storage Toshiba 500 GB 2.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Storage Seagate BarraCuda 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $44.99 @ Newegg Video Card Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB NITRO+ Video Card $433.98 @ Newegg Case NZXT H510i ATX Mid Tower Case $99.99 @ Best Buy Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $706.95 Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-06-07 04:45 EDT-0400 The CPU cooler is a rough choice as it doesn't have a brand name on it, matched it as best as I could. I have 4 storage devices, one is a 1tb 3.5, a 60gb SSD boot drive, and two 500gb laptop 2.5 HDDs that I salvaged as use to store video footage. I also have the 510i version of the NZXT case, with 5 fans running inside of it and the RGB. And of course, peripherals, USB microphone, headset, mouse, keyboard. PC part picker says I need around 522w for this setup, will my 550w PSU be enough power to comfortably game without having to worry about power issues? Should I take out some of my storage devices to keep the system under 500w of usage? I would really like to NOT have to get a new PSU, as I just dropped $450 on the new GPU (Which im trying to determine if I need to cancel the order) but If I we're to get a better PSU, what would you recommend and where in the world could I find it at this point in time? I'd rather sacrifice storage than having to purchase a new PSU. Thanks!
  11. So you wouldn't recommend the Strix version? And you think the 2070 super is a better purchase than an 5700xt? Thanks for the feedback!
  12. b550 is a new motherboard for AMD CPUs that is about to be released. Strix is just a brand name for ASUS gaming products.
  13. On the mobo and ram, I would wait the 11 days before the b550 drops and see the youtuber reviews! It's a platform that will be supported more in the future. Also, the strix is apparently very bad from what I have heard. The b450 tomahawk is a much better b450 board. In the case of the ram, if you're waiting on the b550, you could choose a b550 that supports 3600 Mhz clock speed and 16 cas latency for less than $80. For this card, a LOT of people will recommend a 5700XT, since I know very little on this, I cannot recommend a card. (I'd put 20 bucks that someone else will), but I can recommend that you look into it. I love NVIDIA, but it's worth a look.
  14. Hello! I am debating on going with an amd GPU. Consider this GPU paired with an MSI B550, ryzen 5 3600(XT?) Performance and Aesthetics are what I am looking for. I have an h510i and I really dont like GPU sag. 5700XT https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1507127-REG/asus_rog_strix_rx5700xt_o8g_gaming_rog_strix_radeon_rx.html/?ap=y&ap=y&smp=y&smp=y&lsft=BI%3A514&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIs5XL9d7p6QIVA9vACh02hgrGEAQYFiABEgI6jPD_BwE This seems to be the one I have my eye on the most. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1543415-REG/gigabyte_gv_r57xtgaming_oc_8gd_radeon_rx_5700_xt.html/?ap=y&ap=y&smp=y&smp=y&lsft=BI%3A514&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIs5XL9d7p6QIVA9vACh02hgrGEAQYCyABEgLarPD_BwE https://www.newegg.com/sapphire-radeon-rx-5700-xt-100416nt-8gsr/p/N82E16814202351?item=N82E16814202351 I like the color scheme of this card because it matches my white and black theme. (h510i.) I have heard a lot of positive reviews on this card. 5700? I don't personally like this card, but I have heard great things about it and apparently you can do a BIOS change and OC to get this to a stock 5700XT. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1536337-REG/xfx_force_rx_57xt8tbd8_radeon_rx_5700_xt.html/?ap=y&ap=y&smp=y&smp=y&lsft=BI%3A514&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4IjOwOfp6QIVhcDACh3ZDAfKEAQYCSABEgIPjvD_BwE Side note: If I could afford it: 2070 Super? https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-2070-super-gv-n207sgamingoc-white-8gd/p/N82E16814932219 I know nothing of AMD GPUs. Other than drivers are apparently horrible to deal with. I appreciate any feedback, and even recommendations!
  15. Considering that most of my use from this PC will be to play collegiate r6, ray tracing isn't necessarily what i'm banking on, which brings me the question of should I bite the bullet and use an AMD GPU. I'm thinking of buying a 5700 and using it on my current build and seeing if I like it or not, Im not sure if its a BM to use a GPU and if you don't like it return it (I guess RMA it.?) . I'll have to decide on that later. the performance should shine above my 1060 SSC if the 5700(xt) is as good as everyone says it is.
