Budget (including currency):
Current budget is $6,000. (Can go over budget to probably $8,000, but I don't think there is a reason...)
Country: US
Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:
Pretty much any game, I run lighter loads such as league of legends, overwatch, minecraft, up to demanding AAA titles like Witcher, Subnautica, and some newer modern ones.
This PC will be also used for streaming and recording (usually gaming streams/videos).
The heavier use will be for my work:
This includes running multiple VM's
Programming (intensive, sometimes parallel code)
Machine Learning tasks (training models that can take hours/days/weeks)
Some video editing
Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):
Cooling:
I want this to be a premium build with potential for overclocking for games and if I run code for a long time I wouldn't want to have heating issues.
I am open to both water cooling and air cooling.
(I have never done water cooling before, but with this budget.. why not?)
Monitor info:
I currently have a 4k 60hz display and a 2k 120hz ultrawide. These may change in the future (I am willing to upgrade these).
My preference for an upgrade would be 4k 144hz but I love my ultrawide - just the main monitor needs to be that.
IMPORTANT note on when I am purchasing:
This PC probably won't be built until closer to the end of 2020 as I am waiting to see what new CPUs and GPUs are released.. Not sure how long it is worth waiting.
Earliest I can build this at would be in about 3-4 months.
Preferred Case:
In terms of design I love Lian Li cases, particularly the 011-D XL. However I am open to any recommendations.
Most important: Having good airflow is extremely important - as this PC will be used basically 24/7.
Also important: I don't particularly like plastic cases or cases without a glass side panel.
Somewhat important: Size - any size is really fine, small cases would increase my desk space which is a plus but larger cases may provide better cooling options. Open to any recommendations here.
Graphics Card:
I am unsure whether or not SLI/NVLink is going to be worth getting or if I should just opt for a single more expensive card.
Either dual 2080 ti's or a single RTX Titan? Or wait for 3080 series?
CPU:
Intel or AMD... not sure about this but I feel like AMD might be a better choice.. like a 3950x? Or also wait for newer CPU?
Storage:
Anything 2TB+ M.2 Storage would be fine, of course faster is better here. I know AMD has PCIE Gen4 which if possible I would want to use these drives.
RAM:
At least 32GB. But not sure if I need 64GB or should stick with less.
Motherboard:
????
Note:
I am fine with any amount of RGB.
Let me know what I should build, any suggestions are appreciated!
