  1. This is something I built about a year ago. See this thread for discussion - https://linustechtips.com/topic/1185575-workstation-for-programming-and-light-gaming/ This was about 1400 at the time, now it appears to be <$1000 PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Lc9QNq CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor ($279.64 @ Newegg) Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard ($192.99 @ Amazon) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory ($189.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Crucial P1 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($39.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: MSI Radeon RX 5700 8 GB MECH OC Video Card Case: Fractal Design Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.99 @ Amazon) Power Supply: Corsair RMx (2018) 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($124.99 @ Corsair) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit ($83.00) Total: $1000.59 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2021-06-23 02:29 EDT-0400
  2. Quick update everyone. I got everything for the build we finalized and very nervously put everything together. Looks like it worked. Thanks all for the help. Trying to find profiling tools just for kicks but so far so good on test usage. Cheers!
  3. The 2TB one is 5400RPM. They have WD black in 7200rpm in 2TB which is more than double the price.
  4. Final build based on availability and preferred vendors - PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor ($294.14 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard ($189.99 @ Best Buy) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory ($159.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Crucial P1 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($68.95 @ B&H) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($45.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: MSI Radeon RX 5700 8 GB MECH OC Video Card ($329.99 @ Amazon) Case: Fractal Design Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case ($98.99 @ Walmart) Power Supply: Corsair RMx (2018) 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($124.99 @ Corsair) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit ($83.00) Total: $1396.03 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-04-29 12:59 EDT-0400 You bless this 5X5?
  5. Sorry for throwing more options but I was also leaning towards MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC which has inbuilt wifi, is available and is in similar price range. The only worry that I have is that it doesn't list my memory (3600) as supported. In fact, do I even need 3600 or just save a few bucks with 3200? Cheers for all the help.
  6. Okay so now that I actively started looking to buy, seems like Tomahawk is out of stock EVERYWHERE. Do you guys think I could instead go for something else? Maybe even something like MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/gwPgXL/msi-mpg-x570-gaming-edge-wifi-atx-am4-motherboard-mpg-x570-gaming-edge-wifi This has wifi so it removes the need for wifi adapter.
  7. Yeah I came across accounts from people having to update. I'll try to get the updated one, if not, I'll look up a how to update. Also, I was trying to get the NZXT510 but seems like most not insanely priced boards don't have a header for it so I figured whatever.
  8. Yeah I read something about that. Will double check the specific board.
  9. This looks great. Appreciate the help. Time to start procuring components.
  10. Makes sense. I'll swap out for Corsair counterpart. okay will keep your SSD suggestion. In fact maybe I can downgrade to 500GB to save some cash. I'll stick to 5700 then. Happy to get more thoughts. Cheers!
  11. Thanks for the input. I'd try to stick with the modular power supply. I see you did add a CPU cooler which I was def on the edge about so I'll go with it. You also swapped out Samsung SSD for Crucial. The only reason I got Samsung is because it was the best on all the scales as per my research and I didn't mind slightly steeper price point. Do you think the advantage with Samsung is not worth it? I'll also be happy to downgrade Video Card for maybe 5600XT. Do you think that's worth it?
  12. I am looking to build a machine (have a monitor, keyboard, mouse etc) for programming and light gaming (play DOTA occasionally) on my LG Ultrawide monitor. Here's my first stab at this.
