Davehaslanded got a reaction from Mathsnerds in Real world performance difference between a FX8350 and i7 4790 in Adobe Lightroom
I am currently using an AMD FX 8350 OC to 4.3ghz. I am a freelance photographer and often have to import, edit and export 150-300 24MP RAw photos on a weekly basis. I've considered upgrading my editing rig to an I7 4790, but have held back for a number of reasons:
    1) There are very few real world benchmarks for Photo editing. I'm worried about gaming or video rendering.
    2) Lightroom actually uses all 8 cores of the FX8350 and maxes them out.
    3) The PCmark benchmark does have a photo editing benchmark and only show a 30% difference in performance, but this benchmark was created before recent upgrades to lightroom such as GPU acceleration and the benchmark appears to open photoshop for the benchmark which operates differently from Lightroom.
    4) I saw a massive jump in performance just from upgrading from 8GB to 16GB of Ram
5)My FX8350 editing rig beats my i5 gaming rig when compared (Same GPU, Same RAM at time of test, both SSD) I understand the I5 is only a quad core, but it shows that Lightroom likes more cores as opposed to more powerful.
    6) TekSyndicate's Pistol was using an AMD FX 9000 series CPU as here main editing rig for nearly a year. I don't feel this would have happened if the performance gap had really been that big.

It would be great if anyone here has actually made this upgrade from an AMD FX 8 core (8000 or 9000 series) to an Intel i7 (4000 series) who can speak from real world experience.
A)Did you really see a performance benefit?
B)Was it worth the financial cost of upgrade? (in my case; new CPU, Motherboard, and waterblock)

I use an I5 4670 on my gaming pc and have tried editing on that (Same GPU on both; GTX 980)

Many thanks guys. Look forward to any feedback.

Luke is working on floatplane, he won't be making LTT videos anymore unless it's something he is really interested in.

Just behind the scenes, unless there's a video he wants to do, he can basically choose to do whatever he wants.
I don't think they're made more than one or two exlusive videos on floatplane, and they are more just vlog style content.
He will probably still do stuff like scrapyard wars, retro gaming stuff, etc.

Thats a shame, but at least he has a choice which is cool for him. So whats going on with office? I feel like LTT has expanded incredibly quickly in the last year or two.

Lol a local news outlet has run a story on the outrage of forced upgrades, since the iPhone 5/5c won't be able to upgrade. Forgetting to mention that these Five year old phones don't even support 64bit, and will still run for years anyway.

But I think this is great, trim away obsolete features so we don't have a huge, bloated OS trying to support a decade of devices. This is one of those cases where Apple's willingness to make older devices "obsolete" is actually a good thing, otherwise you end up with something like Windows which has to try and support all kinds of legacy junk while still attempting to provide modern features.

Usually if you buy a high end ITX system youre fully aware of the compromises and you have usually come to the conclusion that it is the right thing for you. It's a very personal thing, and just comes down to needs and personal preferences. Hope this helped in some way

Overclocking is pretty much negated when you use lacking cooling, everyone is aware. That said, what percent of people building a PC actually have overclockable CPUs? Of that percentage, how many people do you think actually overclock their CPUs?

I don't think anyone is going to complain about the capabilites of a non-K i7 7700 and if they are then they probably need a more powerful CPU than can really be crammed in a Node 202.

As for GPUs, any blower-style cooler can easily stay cool in a Node 202 or similar.

ITX is tiny, which has major appeal to people like me that don't really want a massive tower cough Enthoo Pro cough sitting on their desk.

@App4thatIt's all good. Just not with Davehaslanded his computer... And if the crash only happened once, and considering you CAN get it to work untill your next reboot, my first post had the best answer already.

You needed an urgent fix, to get through the weekend... Get your computer to boot, don't turn it off, do a permanent fix or replacement of some component, after the weekend.

Pulling the power cable re sets the power supply. Can mean the power supply is failing, but might not.

Download GPU-Z is you don't already have it. Run the PCI test, it's the question mark on the right side towards the middle. That will tell you it the slot is to blame.

I know the importance of "a working computer", period. If you have two, the one with important data always should come first. If you need to take out hardware from your second computer, to fix your main one on the quick, it's a no-brainer.

Using that computer to make money, makes it even moar important. And I know why you needed that 1080 for work, and that's why I didn't suggest using the onboard video.

They will release it at a higher price and the price of new GTX 1080s will stay roughly the same, as they normally do. Used 1080 prices will likely drop a little at first due to a surge of people selling them to buy a 1080Ti.

Nvidia is not being greedy, their products are worth exactly what people will pay for them. Might as well make bank if they can. But i agree that their profit margins are stupid. A good example of what happens if there is no competition. I believe it's cisco that has pretty much a monopoly in networking. When they sell equipment to schools the schools get a 90% discount. Think about that, Cisco can chop 90% of off their equipment's price and STILL make money.

Wait, what kind of phone has higher resolution vr than pc vr? Upscaled sure. Also, no mobile vr has 6dof which, in my opinion, best sells the sense of presence.

On gear and cardboard the pixels are much more apparent due to the type of content. Most is going to be a video of some sort or picture which will have compression and so on.  Rendered things you learn to look through it and you can see it anymore. Resolution and FOV are so far the only complaints I have with VR now.

It's LCD and thus useless for VR. Also, it's plain wrong that the screen door effect is fixed by higher resolution. Remember how the PSVR has less screen door effect than the Vive and Rift? Yeah, it does that despite a lower resolution.

What really matters is the pixel fill factor:
