  1. Unless your computer is a source of revenue, I would recommend not borrowing money to buy one. Either waiting longer to save enough or buying a cheaper (maybe even used) computer sounds like a better option to me.
  2. I heard we were #blaming @Eschew for new keeb purchases The keyboard itself just arrived but im waiting on the extra switches to arrive
  3. Seems like the same issue that happened a while ago when some api was being blocked. @colonel_mortis in case it is and something can be fixed
  4. For the past week or so, when I boot up my computer, I get a message on the boot page saying that my computer will be doing a drive scan and try to fix unless I press a key in the next x seconds. So, after ignoring this for a little while I checked the drive through command prompt (fsutil dirty query c:) and it says my c drive is Dirty. So far I have tried everything I can find online including error checking in the properties window and some command prompt lines I found online (chkdsk c: /F /V /R /X) and everytime it will say it cleaned the disk but will still say it is dirty when I check. So, is this something that I need to try and fix (if so, how?) or is it something that just happens and I can ignore? Crystal disk says the drive is 97% health so I dont think it is that urgent, just annoying to deal with. Thanks for any help!

So I have been using the vortex vibe that @Den-…

Thanks for all the incredible information! I have looked through and I think the gmmk is going to be my best option for now. When I order from their site, I think I’m going to get some extra switch sets to try some things out. It comes prebuilt with Gateron Browns (but i can change it to a customized one if these are bad switches). The other switches they have for sale are: Kalih Gateron I’m thinking of getting 2-3 additional switches, do you think any of these would be good to try? I’m looking to test a wide variety until I can narrow down what I really like.
  7. Some companies offer DsPPs (direct stock purchase plans) that allow you to purchase stock directly from them. These companies have varying requirements/processes to buy from them. Alternatively you can use an online broker like e-trade which allows you to pick and choose securities to buy with low-no fees. These online brokers are much more popular and common than buying directly from the company.

So I have been using the vortex vibe that @Den-…

These are the differences in the specs of them: I dont know how this correlates to noticeable differences but I would imagine they are similar but not the same.
  10. For a conversation that you are in the middle of, you will hear pretty much all of it. It will still get rid of most of the background noises but what people are saying will remain clear and understandable. Edit: Thats with nothing playing out of the headphones though. I cant remember how it sounds with music or a video playing but I would imagine that the extra noise would drown out a lot of the conversation around you.
  11. If its a background conversation, then yes it will almost completely eliminate it. If its a conversation happening around or relatively close to you, it may minimize it but it will not completely eliminate it. The headphones will also turn off anc if it detects you talking so when you are in a conversation, it will not have any noise cancelling at all.
  12. So I have been using the vortex vibe that @Den-Fi gave me for a few weeks now and I love it! The small form factor (60% with a numpad) took a bit of getting used to but pressing the num button to switch the numpad from arrows to number pad functionality is now a fairly quick task.

I know most people hate mx blues but I really enjoy the clickyness and definitely prefer them over the romer-g switches I was using before. Overall, this keyboard is just a perfect pick for my laptop bundle (pretty much a mobile desktop with how many things I bring with me) and I plan on using this for years to come. So, once again huge thank you to Den-Fi for sending this to me, you're the best.

This keyboard definitely confirms that I want to get more into custom mech keyboards so I have some questions for the more knowledgeable people. I think I want my next board to be full sized and I know there are very few available like this. The best I have found so far is the Glorious GMMK. So, is this a good keyboard to get or is there something better out there? I have no budget set and im willing to spend whats necessary to get something good. I would also like to try out a bunch of different switches and keycaps to figure out what I like best, so any recommendations for things to try would be very appreciated. Thanks for any help!

      🤔

Out of Glorious's switch offerings, for a first-timer, I'd be inclined to try:

      • Glorious Pandas (Tactiles): A tad expensive, but they've been generally well-received by the community. No personal experience with them, can't definitively say what they feel like.
      • Kailh BOX Black/Red (Linear): Fine starter switches for peepos dipping their toes into linears. Adequately smooth that first-timers won't notice anything off.
      • Kailh BOX White (Clicky): Decent clicky switches with a noticeable tactle bump and a crisp click, generally well-received by the community.

A shame that Kailh BOX Jades/Navys aren't included on the list. But perhaps try the BOX Whites first, before jumping on the clicky train?

Note that Kailh BOX switches are a bit limited when it comes to switch modding -- BOX stems and housings aren't interchangable with MX stems and housings, spring/stem diameters for BOX switches are smaller than MX switches, BOX housings probably aren't compatible with switch films (sized for MX housings) -- but lubing (on selective parts) should be fine.

Also, have a personal bias against Kailh's Speed switches (Bronze, Copper, Silver, Gold). I have a set of Kailh Speed Golds (clickys); actuation and tactility is inconsistent between switches, tactile bump is soft and sometimes nonexistant, and click acoustics is not as sharp or clean as Kailh BOX Jades/Navys. Only thing they have going for them is actuation is closer to the switch's resting position, but even that can be an annoyance for peepos that like to bottom out on their keystrokes. 662096681248096266.png?v=1

Nothing against Gateron's basic switches (Black, Blue, Brown, Clear, Green, Red), but nothing about them particularly stands out to me. They'll be more receptive towards switch modding compared to BOX switches, I suppose.

No strong opinions on Kailh Purple Pros (Tactile), no personal experience with them. They seem to be equipped with heavier springs (50g - 70g) and have shorter actuation distances compared to Kailh's non-Pro switches (e.g. Kailh Browns)? Also comes equipped with standard MX stem and housings, should be receptive towards switch modding.

What I most like about you are your fantastic Tech News write ups and how we can work together in DM on one. We should do more of them for sure.

  16. Not to mention the metal and other toxic particles left in the oven that can contaminate food made in the over after. Never put components in an oven if you plan on using the oven again.
  17. So in other words “I’m right and nothing will change my mind, even facts. Sources supporting what I’m saying are wrong because they have said crypto isn’t 100% crime.”
  18. You can also use cash to buy drugs. This means absolutely nothing. The majority of people who lost money (possibly even their life savings) arent miners, they are people who invested in cryptocurrency because they think it will raise in value the same as any other investor in the stock market. You are pretty much saying that you are glad that there are people who most if not lost everything they have which is just wrong.

Any reason inparticular you are looking to upgrade? The only difference I know of between them is the A10 vs A12.
  20. Following order of operations, you first simplify the parenthesis (2+2) becomes 4. Now you have 8÷2(4). Then because multiplication and division are on the same tier, you do them going from left to right. So first you divide 8 by 2 to get 4. Now you have 4(4) or 16. This is the same as [8*(2+2)]/2 not 8/[2(2+2)] which would equal 1.
  21. Because you divide before multiplying, it is the same as this: This means the *(2+2) would go in the numerator, not the denominator
