  1. Huh, didn't even think about that. just upgraded to a new router a few days ago, and never noticed it during config. well that solved a lot of problems.
  2. you don't actually have to set tem2. but you should declare it before the if statement, you can assign it whatever you like but this ensures that any methods that use tem2 has been initialized.
  3. So school is starting up quite soon and Id figure I wanted to kickstart my brain with some small scripting projects to get my mind out of "summer vacation". And while setting my my home SSH server I found an interesting idea. Being on residential internet, I cannot have a static ip. I even tried "persuading" (complaining) to my ISP and nope. granted it doesn't change that too often but I need on demand access to my server throughout the year. my solution right now involves running a script daily checking for ip changes and emailing it to myself if it does change. that part was simple enough. now being the incredibly lazy person I am, I want to be able to write a script that can retrieve and parse my mail on the client end, and on the fly update my ssh config file So i don't have to manually type the address. Though cannot seem to find a simple enough utility that can at least get a list of emails. anyone have ideas?
  4. One interesting thought: Wouldn't this chip consumer an enormous amount of power for a mobile chip. the K1's gpu is already quite power demanding, and now we are throwing in some pretty large cpu cores on the die as well (even larger than cyclone cores which were already pretty ridiculous), all on a 28nm process. The battery is going to take a beating.
  5. I love that they finally moved to an IPS screen. and thanks dbrand for giving away a unit for review, since LTT reviews are one of the more useful videos for daily use.
  6. that isn't because of the sapphire cover. during the move to the iPhone 5, they changed the optical stack for the camera (added 1 extra lens). this had some issues with light in certain angles. its been fixed on the 5s though, which still has the sapphire cover. The leica M8 had the same problem as well.
  7. So after 20 years, my dad's amp is finally giving up, and Its time for a new amp. Still Kind of new to audio and don't know what to get. I would prefer if it was a solid state, because I don't like waiting for tubes to warm up. Budget around $250-$350 CAD. And I don't need the DAC. I know about the O2, but I want other options as well.
  8. Looking for a good headphone amp for HD650s. budget is around the $300-$350.
  9. if you mod them (remove the foam to open them even more) and max the volume to where the ear starts to feel uncomfortable, then the leaked sound is about a laptop speaker at half volume. sorry for the weird explanation, but its the only real comparison i have left ( i Don't own them anymore)
  10. thanks a lot, just got my HD650's too. sound incredible.
  11. thing is this is an completely analog amp (Denon DRA 345R) . I don't think its possible to compress audio.
  12. just saw this interesting dial on my amp called variable loudness. when i change it, it sounds like it suppressing everything thats not bass or treble but unlike an eq it doesn't change the tone of the music. just curious what is it actually doing. and why don't modern amps have this, i quite like the feature.
  13. ya I'm starting to get a little confused here. So Do I need to "borrow" more equipment. and if I do what should i "borrow". O ya if it helps the Model number of the Amp: P/LD-1100.
  14. I'm basically a few days out from getting my HD650s. I don't know much about amplifiers, other then the fact that they drive my current HD555's better than my laptop. Basically I "borrowed" a preamp from my dad and they sound great, although I have to turn the volume dial quite a bit still (about half way of max) with source volume maxed out. Now granted that HD650's are quite a bit harder to drive then 555, will I need a dedicated headphone amp or is my preamp still work fine.
  15. While I'm all up for standardization, WHY MICRO USB?!?!?! it should just die in a fire. The issue I see, is not the "extreme" failure rates of micro usb. its actually quite low even though it is quite fragile. i've only had 2 instances of micro usb breaking (my phone and my external hard drive). The issue I see, is the way it breaks. Every time, its the female end that fails, making the device inoperable. Sometimes I just wish that apple would play nice and offer the lightning connector royalty free and open like what they did with minidp. its a much better designed connector, and actually has some core strength to it.
