  1. Yeah, the sound of reason is calling for the Zephyrus. Yet my heart looks at the Alienware and says wow. The plus point of the Alienware is that it will hold its value much better, if I decide to get a newer solutioon 2-3 years down the line. But yeah, the head calls for the Zephyrus. I'll probably buy one of them (probably the Zephyrus) this week, so I don't really have much time to wait (atm. I have no laptop and am stuck with my desktop only, which is kinda inconvinient).
  2. Hi everyone. I need some advice as I'm going to get myself my first gaming laptop. I decided to ditch my Gaming PC (i5 7600K, RX Vega64, all watercooled) and my old laptop (XPS 13 9343 - which died) and get one do-it-all system. What i do on my PC: Quite a bit of Excel, IBM SPSS and bit of R coding. (I'm economics student) Games (90% Guild Wars 2, 5% LoL, 5% DA:I, Borderlands, Witcher 3, etc.) I travel quite a bit (I'm from Czech Republic, so mainly trains or a car all over Europe), when the situation allows it. But I don't need my laptop everywhere (I can handle all conversations on my phone, I need laptop only for gaming, which I usually only do when I'm at home or for school + getting some work done on the bus/train + some movie/netflix watching). The core takeaway is that I play pretty much only one game, pretty much only at home. So ideal scenario for gaming PC at home + laptop for traveling. Thing is, with laptops being the powerhouses they are, it's cheaper to get a gaming laptop, that can do it all. Plus having only one system to worry about sounds very nice. At home, I'll dock my laptop and use full size peripherals (keyboard, mouse, DAC+AMP, 32" 1440p main + 24" 1200p in pivot) and it will be on a cooling pad. Now to the laptops. - I've set my budget to about 1600 USD max. (I'm planning to get a laptop shipped from the US) - 15,6" inch is the absolute maximum. (I can still fit it in my backpack and take it with me) - I need it to handle GW2 fully cranked with DX12 mod at 1440p (game is mainly CPU bound, but for 1440p, you'll need a decent graphics card as well) - From time to time I would like to play some AAA games at decent framerates on High/Medium presets in 1440p. - Noise isn't such a big issue - I care only for battery life in idle pretty much (excel, coding, netflix, web browsing) - 5 hours of battery life are enough. Those are my main requirements. Based on these I've selected two main candidates. 1) ASUS Zephyrus G14 (2021) 2) Dell Alienware m15 R4 (3)) The ideal candidate would be something like the ROG Flow x13, but with RTX3060 in the dock, a cheaper version. (I would pay a premium for a solution like this - but not 3k USD). I have even thought of getting a 2in1 + thunderbolt GPU dock, but that would be hugely CPU bound I'm afraid. 2in1 would be perfect for school, but I'm forced to make tradeoffs (and between 2in1 vs normal laptop and 1650 vs 3060, I take the normal laptop with 3060 everytime). It's such a shame that ryzen laptops don't have thunderbolt (you cannot get a GPU enclosure with any other interface). And now I'm split between the Alienware and the Zephyrus. Alienware will be faster because it has better cooling and the 3060 will be able to consume 115W, it's a nicer design and I do like the 3 m.2 slots. It is bigger and heavier, but for the extrta performance... It's a sacrifice I'm inclined to make. The Zephyrus has better batttery life, and it's more portable, but the cooling and maximum 80W 3060 leave some performance on the table. Also, the design isn't as nice as the Alienware. Alienware has a plus for me, that it also has a better keyboard for when I'm traveling and it has a webcam (which I tend to use quite a bit recently) Can anyone help me with the decision? Does anyone have any thoughts? P.S.: I'm sorry for any gramatical errors, not a native speaker. (+ Typing errors just happen, I'm sorry for them as well.)
  3. So after 4 hours, some meddling in BIOS, couple restarts (soft ones, PSU never fully turned off) and full instalation of Windows I turned the PC off. And the problem came right back. Can't turn the PC on. Once it's on, all is good. No stability issues, no dead rails, nothing. All works like clockwork. But the problem is very simple. the impulse that turns the PC on. the PSU has a problem with that. Seems like I'll have to cut it open and do a closer inspection...
  4. PC just suddenly came back to life. I have no idea why, I've changed nothing. Right now I'm sitting in bios and I'll try to install windows.
  5. Hi, yet another troubleshooting post from me! I seem to encounter quite a lot of weird stuff with my builds sadly. My last problem is a PSU related one. The PC parts in question are: Enermax Platimax 1350W Custom Cablemod cables ASUS Maximus IX Extreme i5 7600K and MSI Z170A MPower Gaming Titanium (with another i5 7600K) So last night I was filling my loop and leak-testing. First as a sanity check, I tried turning on my PC, after I connected everything (before filling) and I have a habbit of trying it two times. First time I only heard a little crack in the power supply and nothing. Second time I tried, it worked normaly, not issues. Everything lit up, got some post codes on the MB, so all good. I turned the PC off quickly and began filling the loop. For that I unplugged the 24 pin connector from the motherboard and turned the PSU on manually, connecting pins. After filling the loop and fixing some small leaks I turned PC on, got into the bios without any issues, so I called it a day and went to sleep. Today I can't turn my PC on no matter what. I can turn on the power supply and everything connected to it with connecting the pins on the 24pin, but when I try it from motherboard, nothing happens. No fan spin, nothing. Just a small crack in the PSU (not the something is shorting kind of crack, but more like a milder version of PSU swithing on kind of crack). I tried a different motherboard that I have in my GFs system, that I know for a fact it works. -> Same issue I even unplugged everyting from the PSU and connected just the 24pin and 8pin, stock enermax cables, not the cablemod ones. Same issue. Has anyone seen this kind of issue? I really want any help I can get. Thanks, Bleach out.
  6. Nope, same thing happens at stock. And power supply is pretty good.
  7. So I just tried a bit more troubleshooting: - Installed newest BIOS for my MB - reainstalled my nVidia drivers (Driver Sweeper -> Guru3D newest nV drivers) - checked both SSDs in the system with HD Tune (all green, all good) Aaaaand, the problem persists. In heaven in an identical scene sometimes i get 7FPS, sometimes 15 and other times 40. Usually if I run Heaven after a restart, I get one of the better results (not straight 7FPS, but 20 instead). I keep track of: CPU usage - around 26% all core GPU Usage - 100% (98% by Unigine Heaven) RAM - 2,5GB out of 8GB VRAM - 1GB out of 2GB Usage is stable across all runs, identical almost, yet the results are vastly different. On top of that, whenever I quit a game or benchmark (be it Sims 4, Witcher 3 or Unigine Heaven) the PC freezes, and then there are two cases what might follow: 1) PC is frozen forever and I have to do a hard reset 2) PC does a black screen, then recovers. This happens each and every time after I close either of the three applications. It never occured during W3 or Unigine Heaven, but it was observed in Sims 4 with grey screen instead of black screen. It doesn't matter wheter I'm running fullscreen or not. Now I had the PC freeze up on me after booting to windows and trying to unlock it. Full hard reset type of freeze. At this state, the PC is unusable. I have no clue what to do with it other then starting to change out components. I have i5 7600K, Vega 64 and 16GB of HyperX memory on hand, that are in my personal PC, so next week I'll probably pull these from my PC and sry them in this one. Because I'm out of ideas.
  8. I am running witcher at 1440p, but remember that it was fine a couple months ago at 1440p with the same GTX770. Both Unigine benchmarks are running at 1080p windowed. Ram usage is around 5GB, so around 2-3GB headroom, VRAM usage is aroung 1GB
  9. Hey guys, I feel quite hopeless and might need some help. I built a new PC for my GF, the PC is as follows: i5 6400 (I wanted to try BCLK OC BIOS, but sadly doesn't work on this MB, so i5 6600K comming) - BQ! Dark Rock Pro 3 MSI Z170A MPower Gaming Titanium 8GB Patriot Viper (@3200Mhz 15-19-19-36) 180GB Corsair GS as system drive GTX770 (@1267MHz core, 8000MHz memory) - Prolimatech MK-26 + 2x120cm Seasonic 650W Focus Plus Gold All in well ventilated NZXT Phantom 410 And my problem is this: Most parts were salvaged, from my PC (apart from CPU - 7600K@5GHz and 16GB of HyperX Savage DDR4) and with that system I could play Wither 3 on medium details 1440p without any issues. This PC barely scrambles 10FPS in open world on low details 1440p. The second issue is FPS falling in time. For example: Combat tutorial in Witcher 3: starts at approx. 36FPS and ends with 15, even though the scene is pretty much still the same. Other example might be Unigine Heaven and valley benchmarks: while on first loop the FPS is decent (30-120FPS), but from loop 2 onwards i get 15-60FPS, pretty much halved across the board. It happens each and every time I run these. Troubleshooting I've tried so far: - Storage is not the problem, same happens on different SSDs and SATA ports - I've got latest drivers for my GTX770 - W10 was installed clean - This happens on stock values as well (for all components combined: RAM stock JEDEC, GPU stock) - Temperatures are not the issues here due to the overkill cooling I'm running (GPU OC 56°C load, CPU 40°C load) I have no clue what is going on, absoluytley no clue. Please help! (Next week I might take out the i5 7600K from my PC and try it here, same with memory and my Vega 64)
  10. So, I just fixed the issue. While in the UEFI, I was checking again whether the adapter isn't turned off and I came across a setting called "Network stack", enabling which showed me two new settings "Ipv4 and Ipv6 PXE Support", I enabled both, booted into windows and all is working fine. Funny thing is that this is not enabled by default (I reset CMOS on MB) and I don't remember ever enabling it before. I hope it might help others if they ever face this issue. Cheers.
  11. Hey guys I have a big issue, that I don't think I can solve by myself. I just built a PC for my GF and now I want to get it up and running. The PC: i5 6400 MSI Z170A MPower Gaming Titanium 8GB Patriot Viper 180GB Corsair GS as system SSD Original Win10 Pro 64b installed from DVD (so no updates on the installed medium) Wired LAN connection from UPC modem (just tested it on my laptop, which connects fine) The issue is as follows: 1) Clean Windows 10 install on the formated Corsair GS 2) Windows were unable to import drivers from the network 3) There aren't any Network Adapters in Device Manager (the whole table is missing) 4) I'm unable to install Intel's Network drivers due to error "Cannot install drivers. No Intel(R) Adapters are present in this computer" Truth be told, I've seen many things and I'm no computer newbie, but this is something new. The board and its connection worked fine a week ago, when it was still in my personal PC and now I have this issue. Can anybody help me? Thanks, Bleach.
