Maybe the G refers to Graphics? Perhaps because everyone is used to seeing DDRx that Marketers see no reason to change it? Even for Graphics Cards...

I can't believe I stop riding my bike regularly since I gotten my disability. Now I've getting back in to it since Sunday.

I was going to replace my 26" Diamondback with a 24" one, but the shop I purchased my current one is not selling the bikes the owner used to. So I'm keeping this one.

Now that I'm going to learn how to do my own bike upkeep sooner or later, anyone know of a good bike repair manual?

I'm just a fat guy who bought a cheap mountain bike from a large sports chain store, but excited for the summer nonetheless. I assembled the bike Yesterday and test drove to work and back today, whopping 7km. It was fun and surprisingly quick, my neighbourhood is generally pretty hilly, but I have a great mostly flat route to work.

It has been about a decade since the last time I cycled any noteworthy amount. My original bike got stolen and I didn't replace it until a couple of years ago. My second bike was locked in a locked storage, yet it still got vandalised for parts. Fun. This time around I'm going to keep the bike in my apartment, thankfully even these cheap bikes have gotten absurdly light (I think mine is 14kg). I also got a decent chain with a good lock (thanks LPL), but I'll be trying my hardest never to leave it unsupervised anywhere but work.

Each time I have bought a bike I have also had to get a new pump. Figuring out Presta was fun.

Copy and pasting this response does nothing to allay doubts you actually understand what you're talking about.

Can you point to an example of a Celeron which is "the same price as premium Intel chips"?

For reference, the only desktop Celeron chip from the current Intel platform has an MSRP of ~$50.

I'm pretty sure photonic processors aren't ready for desktop use and would certainly cost a bit more than a Pentium.

whm1974 reacted to Middcore in USB Type C fire hazard potential?
Around the time the first mobile devices with USB-C were hitting market (like Google's Nexus phones circa late 2015) there was an engineer at Google who was testing and documenting which chargers and cables were in spec, although I don't know if the worst case scenario for using ones that weren't included fire. I think it was more like they wouldn't charge as fast as they were supposed to, and the very shittiest ones could potentially damage your devices, but not burn down your house.

"Hot to the touch" is not the same as "fire hazard". Anything is flammable if you try hard enough, but the odds of a phone spontaneously combusting on a pile of bedsheets because of an issue with the charger or cable are low. If the lithium battery has a defect, that's a different story.

This is why the good quality cables have a chip inside that has built in detection and protection for such things. But less reputable manufacturers haven't necessarily put in fully-featured chips. NXP is a major seller of these things, I'm sure you can find a datasheet that describes how it works on their website.

I will say its interesting seeing people learning NLP models.
But just remember that while they can appear smart, they are actually very stupid.
Ask it a question and it will answer.
    "Are you an AI?"
    Yes

    But tell it something
"You are a human with parents"

And it will roll with it, this is why the Lamda model at Google was saying it was sentient, because the researcher said it was and it started giving outputs to confirm it even though it clearly isn't.

This video had terrible editing. At 4:01 Alex is explaining "here's the CPU and here's the connector" - well where is here? I can see a close up of the heatsink and CAMM board, but that's about it. No connector or CPU location position markings in sight. Only time you see the connector (as far as I noticed) is at 5:26 and that's for like second and a half. At that point the statement made minute and half prior made sense. I had to watch this part multiple times before I noticed the clip where the connector was shown.

Low-key thought I have to come and ask someone on forums to explain how CAMM works as the "how CAMM works" video was more about how SO-DIMM works. Not hating, but when explaining something like this, make sure the visuals match and are also clearly show what is being said.

it's not for everyone, but i agree that people are quick to throw shade at things they can't/don't want to understand. an example would be that i do all my own work on my cars, more for hobby than anything else, but there are people who have said that's for poor people who don't want to spend the money on a shop lol. people with that mentality exist in every corner of life, i have learned to ignore them.

Yeah, i should have not said that, edited.

But I don't like this mentality, Linux is great for some workflows, and people who say that it's only for "time-wasters" is another way to tell them that their hobby sucks or that they are poor...

because most common tasks genuinely take longer on linux.

gaming? expect to be troubleshooting before the game actually works.
office tasks? good luck with LibreOffice. i have both libre and MS office on my computer, libre is a freaking joke, even compared to office 2007.
photo editing? enjoy your subpar alternatives.

it's not some toxic opinion or a "dis of linux users". it's a very very sad truth: the reason why linux on the desktop hasnt happened so far, is because up until now, compared to windows or mac, the experience of *actually* daily driving linux on a computer you *actually* use for more than a webbrowser.. linux suuuuuuucks.

i have a linux desktop as a media pc, i have a linux laptop, i have a linux server, i have an unraid server. and i'll tell you: server? great. desktop: holy hecking please no, i waste so much time with these devices that i simply dont use them.

I've always thought Linux is genuinely useful for many workflows, and just like the other operating systems, if you just want to surf the web it's the bootloader for your browser. Sometimes I see stupid people (particularly Apple fanboys) who think Linux is only for nerds and you're basically poor if you use it. I don't know but I can't stand this elitist point of view. Anyone can use whatever browser they would like to use.

I've also seen this mentality among people who install custom ROMs on their phones.

I feel like the tech community really needs to police itself to not let such toxic mentalities show up online.

If it's a concern, just grab 32GB's and be done with it - Seriously.
That's what I've got for my setup so I'm set for sometime to come.

However no one can really say for how long 16GB's will be enough, things change over time and sometimes these changes are quick to happen. Some of it will depend on what's being released as new features are added to games and how they are implemented but in the overall, 16GB's as of now is fine.

whm1974 reacted to Chiyawa in How long will 16gb of ram remain viable?
    Depends on your usage.

    - My parents have a system that only has 8GB RAM, and they couldn't fully utilised it. They usually do e-mail checking, Youtube watching and play casual games.
    - My sister use her PC to play modern games such as Mass Effect Andromeda, Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Her system has 16GB RAM and her average gaming session (yeah, she just play games, no streaming or recording game footage) barely hit 8GB, the most is a little over 7GB.
    - Me? I play simulation games a lot, such as City Skyline and Anno 1800 or 2205. RAM filled up a lot and the maximum RAM usage recorded are close to 12GB. I don't stream or open other applications. My system has 16GB RAM.
    - My friend? Well, let's just say he is close to using all 32GB RAM. He is actively streaming his game, open quite many tabs from his browsers, and running a virtual machine to host Minecraft server (8GB). He needs more RAM as he is constantly utilising over 80% of his system RAM.

    So, yeah, it really depends.

Anyway, I usually use this rule of thumb to determine if you need more RAM: If you constantly hit 80% of RAM usage, you need to upgrade your RAM. For many system that I come across, if the memory usage is over 80%, your system seems to slow down by a margin. Windows OS will actively swap the RAM data to and from your storage media. Of course, sometimes trojan, malware or virus could hog all the resources, but if your system is clean and you always hit 80% of RAM usage, you might need to consider upgrading your RAM.
